Probably not though because the first couple of years was bleeding money to fix the economy.

Trying to hit budget surpluses is dumb though. It means your tax dollars are going to waste.

Government finance is inherently different from any other kind of finance.

The government should be in debt because that's a more efficient use of money. The balancing act is being in enough debt to maximize your resources without going too far to where you're paying too much in interest.

Also, it's a good thing for the government to go into debt to fund things like infrastructure projects and education because they eventually increase the tax base.

Which means more revenue in the future.
