@ I think it makes sense if the same people always overexplain things. But people overexplain things, because they don't know how smart you are. Just give them the benefit of the doubt, be annoyed for a second and get over it. Everybody has pet peeves. Just get over it, until you know someone well enough and then they probably already stopped overexplaining things. If not, you can tell them. — josephine 2 mins ago

@josephine I fully agree. One could just acknowledge the communication with "OK" in the beginning in case it's just a one-off thing. My impression with this question was that these comments happen quite frequently. I don't think the phrases in this answer come off as wiseacre if you say it nicely and also acknowledge your shortcomings. One could try a more direct "Please stop explaining things to me." but I think ultimately it's easier and better to concentrate on the perceived lack of knowledge. Somehow convey the message that the lack is much smaller than thought. — Trilarion 2 mins ago
