Hello @Danny Chia, and welcome to IPS! Right now your question is rather broad and slightly difficult to pick out your distinct goals. Could you rephrase it a bit and remove some of those extra sub-questions? I think they take away from understanding your overarching goal. Thanks :) — Anilla 1 min ago

Sure, I've removed two comments that I feel might be less on-topic. I've copied them here for the sake of posterity: 2. Is it better to message someone directly as opposed to posting on their profiles? Or does it depend on the situation? 4. I'm usually the one to initiate conversations. Besides cheap things like birthday wishes and occasionally "liking" my posts, most people don't reach out to me unless it's for their benefit. Some of them also take a long time to respond to messages. Am I being "acquaintance-zoned"? — Danny Chia 1 min ago

Your situation sounds like you need some fairly in-depth interaction, which isn't what stack exchange does. You might be able to find help on reddit.com, but I'm still finding my way about there. I think this would be on topic for redit.com/r/autism. It's absolutely on topic for reddit.com/r/offmychest, but so much stuff gets posted there it's likely to be missed. I haven't gotten enough of a feel for what other subreddits would welcome your assortment of issues. — Ed Grimm 1 min ago

The obvious rule of "if I can hear you, you can hear me" does not actually work. I have lived some places where all the neighbors could hear each other. I've lived other places where only the noisy neighbors could be heard. Different people have different levels of hearing sensitivity. And in an apartment where one can't hear any of the neighbors, it's easy to think that the walls are good at dampening out the noise, even if it's just that the neighbors are all very quiet. — Ed Grimm 1 min ago

I disagree about this question being primarily opinion based. It's a pretty obvious thing to ask about, because what matters most is the host's opinion. — Ed Grimm 1 min ago

thank you for your insightful answer. What meditation practices did you use to combat social anxiety? (e.g. how did you meditate and for how long and how often?) Hi! Thanks for the answer, but this approach has already been suggested. Can you elaborate it on how it is different from existing answer? Besides this, answers here shouldn't be just a suggestion and must explain why and how would they work. Also check out the meta post on how to write good answers. — A J ♦ 18 secs ago

Why were you invited to the dinner gathering, and by whom? If nobody is capable of having a conversation with you, it sounds like it might also be a social problem on their side; it's a lot easier to switch to a topic both sides understand than it is to learn how to converse with experts on a specific topic. — Erik 53 secs ago

To clarify, do you just want help on how to talk to your neighbor about the problem (without making things worse) so you can then tell the police that you tried talking to them? Or is your main goal to talk to them in order to make things better (and avoiding the need to involve the law)? Also, you might want to consider asking your question here: law.stackexchange.comÆlis 28 secs ago

One plan I'm considering...I want to spend 4-8 hours per week talking with random MDs in person or over skype. I will try to volunteer at some clinics/hospitals as well. I hope that in 6 months, I can have more intelligent conversations with MDs. Do you think that's a reasonable goal? — John 43 secs ago

You are catching downvote and close votes because this exchange does not help you convince any one of anything. It's an important distinction to make. However, if you rephrase your question into a goal that you want to convert to your wife, the people here can help you with the details of perhaps how to deliver your message. Whether it is convincing is another matter entirely. — bruglesco 1 min ago

There's a lot that can be done here, but the question as it stands is not very clear. What goal do you hope to accomplish? What do you want to do better? If the question can be updated to show this, I think this can avoid being downvoted and/or closed. — baldPrussian 1 min ago

@EdGrimm My point is that if you can hear them then it is possible for them to hear you - obviously, you'd have to be equally as noisy as them. If you can hear them shouting it doesn't necessarily follow that they can hear you speaking at a normal level, but if you can hear normal chatter then the walls are thin enough for it to be heard both ways. Do you think I need to spell that out? I thought it was too obvious to state. — Astralbee 1 min ago

My point is different people are different, and some of them need things spelled out. Most of the people I have encountered that needed things spelled out had frequent problems like this. I don't know if the OP is one of those people. I've not seen an indication one way or the other in their post. I guarantee if IPS SE lasts for a decade and this post isn't removed before the end of that time, more than a dozen people who need things spelled out will read your answer. — Ed Grimm 1 min ago

Hi Marc, we require answers here be based on expertise, and right now this looks like a "try this!". Can you edit to explain where this advice is coming from, e.g. have you done something like this before? Can you explain what specifically about these responses makes it more neutral, and why you expect that to be more effective? Keep in mind that readers who struggle with interpersonal skills may not see what's important about the example script here or understand how to adapt it to their situation. — Em C ♦ 1 min ago
