A J
2:19 AM
@Tinkeringbell If that makes you feel any better, I am also invited to a wedding to which I must go but I can't.

@Tinkeringbell bring a friend, sit in the back, make snarky comments

7 hours later…
9:42 AM
@AJ That makes me jealous! If you can't go you're better of than me :D
@JourneymanGeek I'd need to check the invitation but I don't think any friends or +1s were invited :/

@Tinkeringbell If it was a indian wedding, It would be "please hold, someone will start making snarky comments"
Or worse, start telling you a story of how he joined the IAS, and the wedding ended at the part of the story where he bought a stamp.... 3 days later

@JourneymanGeek Yeah, I guess it's good that my torture will only ruin one afternoon, evening and perhaps part of the night :P

9:58 AM
@Tinkeringbell On the contrary
the old fella died
I WILL NEVER KNOW HOW THE STORY ENDED!
DID HE GET THE POSTAGE STAMP?
DID HE HAVE TO WALK UPHILL BOTH WAYS IN THE SNOW AND STAGE A STUNNING REVERSE HEIST TO GET HIS APPLICATION IN?

Hahahaha
I think you'll survive without that knowledge

I will take that regret to my death bed.
Well no actually
And I suspect my version is better, sneaking into the heart of the indian administrative service, in a dark coat and fake moustache and a fake indian accent, which is quite a achievment for someone with a real indian accent...

3:01 PM
@AJ same, we can't risk getting stuck in India so we're missing out on one of gf's cousin's wedding... it was already downscaled to 50 (or 100?) people apparently due to government regulations
@JourneymanGeek :D :D :D
@JourneymanGeek :x
@JourneymanGeek still limited to english, so I'm guessing I'll be exempt to at least some of that :P
@JourneymanGeek :D :D :D
I like doing fake movie accents, I have however for... reasons of personal health... foregone on doing Indian accents :x

@MiG well you can do a fake whatever your accent is
@MiG this was in Tamil and English. There's no escape

MiG
@JourneymanGeek I have been explicitly told by someone whose name shall not be mentioned that this would not be considered funny :d

4 hours later…
MiG
7:04 PM
ugh... we have these 'silent' train compartments where you can work in peace... except there's always one who decides they can do long phone conversations :|

7:18 PM
@MiG The solution to that: EXCUSE YOU! THIS IS A SILENT COMPARTMENT!

MiG
already did that, girl went silent... I just don't like having to do that :/

Yeah me neither. Then again, if no one ever does it.... People get away with so much rule breaking if you don't call them out on it.

MiG
exactly

Most of the time it goes well, though people aren't happy of course. Only nearly got in a fight once... That girl and her boyfriend had no manners at all and did not comprehend that "silent" doesn't include "loud whispering". Or perhaps they did, as they were completely silent when the conductor came by XD

MiG
yep, sounds very familiar :)
this one time there was this central African lady who pulled out all the stops both in volume and in length, she even decided to have an argument with the conductor :x
but most go silent... I usually let them polite-but-firmly know this is a silent compartment (pointing to the signs on the windows) and that they can continue their conversation in the vestibule (also pointing to the door), that almost always does the trick
I guess I have a very stern look :)

8:10 PM
Yeah, if at all possible I tend to avoid getting into a verbal argument as well. Though gesturing is more easily ignored

MiG
oh no, I make direct eye contact to avoid that
next train... drunk singing lady in silent compartment :x
seriously boozy smell about her, but she has gone quiet so far :)
