Q: Women, What do you want from boyfriends that other lady friends cannot fulfill?

mattsmith5Women, what do you expect from a boyfriend that you don't expect from a girl who's a friend? What goals do men fill that female friends don't besides s♡x?

4 hours later…
12:33 PM
that question... sure is something

It's a nice topic starter for a conversation with good friends, I guess... but it's not a question for this site ;)

hello fellow friends, what do you want from a boyfriend other than sex?

1:01 PM
I... don't know actually. I guess things for me go from acquaintance to friend to relationship, and in a relationship I'd expect all the things I'd expect from a friend, but more/better?
Oh, and if we're living together, you're cleaning up your own mess.
Now you :P

not especially interested in a boyfriend, but cuddles are definitely high up on the list

Empathy.

@Mithical You don't expect that from regular friends?

It's expected at a different level, I feel.

The ability to share things I won't with family/friends.
Also, morning.

1:07 PM
@AlexRobinson Okay, just anything that's more relationship/significant other than just regular friend :P
@Mithical Oh, that's probably true. It's why I went with 'all the things I expect from a friend but more/better' too :)
I took the question to be more like 'something you don't expect from a friend at all, but do expect from a partner'
@Sarov Morning!

Cold feet?
Want != expect. :P

@Sarov Fair :P The IPS main one said expect so I just stuck with that instead of Alex' improved version ;)

'Expect' might be a much broader list, though...
Emotional blackmail? Hmm, nah, friends can do that too.

If we're going for "want"... I'm probably done, the answer is 'nothing'. I've never really met anyone I wanted to partner with anyways.
Most often because they don't meet 'expectations' XD

It's quite a difficult question to answer, because everyone's idea of an ideal partner is going to be different :P

1:15 PM
I mean, that just means it's impossible to answer objectively. Doesn't make it that hard to answer subjectively.

Like I said, topic starter. ;) I think most people do have at least some ideas on an ideal partner... like I said: Mine cleans up his own mess.
Living in a house with 2 brothers and a dad that never do that, that's my pet peeve I really don't need in a partner XD

...Wait so you expect that from a partner but not from friends?

What friends do in their own homes is not my business, and usually if friends come over, they are guests.... Apparently guests aren't expected to help cleaning up :P Most of my friends do though!

I expect two way trust and some brutal honesty being possible both ways from a partner. I'm ok to keep a relation with friend with more small talk and less adjustment

If they leave at the end of a fun night, they help put dishes in the dishwasher, food in containers, and wipe down the tables. All that's left for me is to vacuum (and mop, if things have really gotten dirty) the next day.

1:19 PM
@Tinkeringbell ngl the thing i most want is communication - i'm a great believer that issues become a lot worse than they need to be if they get bottled up

@AlexRobinson "...Wait so you expect that from a partner but not from friends?"

on an unrelated note: today i heard the best excuse for being late to a meeting of "sorry there was a 1.5m cape cobra in the garage"
@Sarov similar to what mithical said, yes - but to a different level

@AlexRobinson Fair. I can see that happen from time to time between my parents, and it does suck!

Annnd our production environment just disappeared.

No problems anymore

1:25 PM
Exactly what I was about to write... :D

Pfft.

i mean... its not exactly incorrect

Things are happening that should not be happening. (Twilight zone theme plays)

1:40 PM
compared to my job where things should be happening but aren't

That's usually not as bad.

its not explicitly bad for me, however it does mean things are dull a lot of the time

...I'd take dull...

dull is fine until you're stuck with being on call 40 work hours a week but you only have to work half of that... yet i can't leave my desk in case i am needed

I'm technically on high-alert right now, which means I need to be available 24/7 to be called in...

1:45 PM
@AlexRobinson Sounds like my life behind the cash register at times. No clients means nothing to do, and the boss would switch between 'go clean something' and 'stay at the register'. I just ended up bringing a tablet/phone to entertain myself during downtime.

yeah i've watched an ungodly amount of netflix over the past 3 months, i'd love to do more engaging things but being prepared to drop everything doesn't really allow that

I ended up having 5-6 of those games where you can do a task, then have to wait a few minutes/hours anyways. Things like hay day, empire 4 kingdoms....

i don't even know how many of those sorts of games i've played in total

Hahaha yeah, I can't remember all of them anymore either.
puzzle games?

Diablo II.

...If you're playing a necromancer.

1:54 PM
@Tinkeringbell i've started getting quite good at futoshiki again, managed to solve a 6x6 in 5 minutes earlier today

Hm, never heard of those before, but they look interesting on first glance!

i used to do them a few years back because there were always a handful of newspapers kicking about our sixth form... but only got back into it recently because i found a good app that has thousands of them

2:10 PM
Okay just redeploying the failing apps seems to have worked?
No idea what happened, but problem solved~

it never ceases to amaze me the sheer number of technical problems that seem to pop into existance, have no solution and get randomly fixed

Indeed.
Thought experiment: Are computers just literal-minded genies?

i am entirely convinced they're haunted - my old laptop's external keyboard broke... then the built in keyboard broke too so i got a second external keyboard which broke after a few weeks

I remember one time, my boss spilled his soft drink on his keyboard. Then he found it wasn't working right, so he got a new one from IT.
But the new one was also broken.
And then I discovered/pointed out that...
He had scroll lock on.

wow incredible
some people are just really tech savvy like that huh

2:37 PM
TBF, no one ever looks at scroll lock.

2:48 PM
Follow-up question: Is there anything you expect to provide as a partner you don't expect to as a friend (if different from the previous).

3:18 PM
Financial stability :D

dinner

4 hours later…
7:30 PM
@Sarov I guess a higher tolerance for b******t?

Literal or metaphorical?

If you're dealing with literal anybody interacting with you probably is quite used to it...

@Sarov Both, I guess .. :) But being partners is a commitment through good times and bad (yeah I know, old-fashioned)

So can wander off during mediocre times? Sweet.

@Mithical And yes, interacting with people in general requires the same tolerance but to a much lesser extent ;) I guess the only situation that may require a higher tolerance than partnerships is working in customer service ;)
@Sarov i mean, most people seem to do that given current divorce rates :P

7:38 PM
@Tinkeringbell ...Fair point.
