Keeping and making friends especially when you are older is difficult.
I am really keen to hear about great resources - courses, sites, youtube channels that you have found personally helpful.
However, what is probably more helpful is specific reasons why and how has that resource helped you? ...
@scohe001 Oh no, this I know :p what I meant is that the reported "comment" was actually an answer to the question, but I guess it's just that the commenter simply deleted their comment and posted it as an answer instead.
Lots of work, but the mood is good. I really love my new job, and yesterday I had enough energy and motivation to depth clean my kitchen. I'm much less stressed now :p
I need to do some tests. The environment where I usually do them is broken. I can do them in prod. This sounds like a terrible idea... (But I have been waiting for this environment for the last 45 minutes, so I might do them in prod and try to not do an action I shouldn't have done...)
@Ælis Nah, there's supposed to be some code that merges two things into one other thing if they're within 10 cm of each other. He picked something to test with that was closer to 50cm apart ;)
Yep :) Bit my fault too, I usually put the specs in the e-mail with the patches, forgot to do that this time (because I already sent them before his vacation, weeks ago XD)
Seems like my test environment has a mysterious bug that nobody knows where it comes from. If I ask Alex, they tell me to go ask Bob (because the bug isn't on their end). If I ask Bob, they tell me to go ask Charlie and if I ask Charlie, they tell me to go ask Alex... ><
After one hour, it's now fixed \o/ It was a cache issue. Weird bug are always because of the cache it seems
hmm, some poor dude just came to me with some issue, apparently he's trying to upgrade our .NET version from 4.6.1 to 4.7.2. It's causing a lot of headaches
@Ash If you have any suggestion reading that are similar to "A long way to a small, angry planet", I'm all ear. I absolutly loved it (and the other books by this same author) but I seem to be unable to find other books who have the same ambiance :(
@Ælis I don't have much choice. I'm still on probation, we have a product to launch by September, the whole IT team has an insane schedule, ... I left at 4PM last Friday, my coworker said "you're leaving already?", I reminded them I had already worked for 42 hours ^^
@avazula :/ Maybe you should try going to work later then? There is still a month to go before September, burning yourself out doesn't seem like a good idea :/
@Ælis I prefer working in the mornings :) but no worries, I already slowed down a bit. I can't do more than 44hours anyways otherwise I'll be grounded haha
@avazula I prefer too, but when it's the only solution for me to not work overtime, well... In any case, I'm glad to know that you already slowed down and that you won't work more than 44h a week :)
@avazula Ahah x) I'm not so fan of granola bars (unless if there is a lot of chocolat in it) but I definitively enjoy them (without chocolat) when I'm hungry (my stomack is really happy with them :p )
Nah, I'm not hungry for "fat" stuff during the summer. I'm more straving for fruits and vegetables. Also, I just eat full container of blueberries, so I'm fine :p
> "So here are some tips I've found useful to have those kind of difficult conversations." Isn't that enough ? It indicates that I've used those strategies for similar conversations. Detailing what those conversations were about seems unnecessary.
Doesn't seem good enough to me, but I don't really know what to answer
@scohe001 Fine I guess. I just want a part-time terribly badly. I had a one week holiday who allowed me to rest and realize how nice it was to have free time and feel well rested and now I want more of that.
@Ælis haha I 110% feel you. Coming from college only a few years ago it still feels weird to be in the summer months and still be working :(
@Ælis well I just got back from my camping trip and I had another short vacation a few weeks before that...so I'm all out of time for the foreseeable future :/
@scohe001 I took one week at the ocean/beach where I saw my extended family which is always nice (at least for this part of them). And I'm going to take one week in August (near the 15th) to go to the mountain (I like moutain more than beach but I like seeing this part of my extended family even more than going to the mountain)
@scohe001 Not really, I kind of hate sport x) But I love the quietness and the landscape plus the fact that there are a lot of wild blueberries (the delicious French kind, not the American kind) where we go and I always pick and eat a lot of them :P
Ooh that sounds amazing!! Before we left to Yosemite, I had read this and some other similar blog posts, but despite our searching we didn't end up finding any wild fruits that were edible :(
A quiet mountain with a bunch of blueberries sounds like heaven though. I'm super jealous
@scohe001 (Sorry for the long response, something came up at work). Honestly, I can imagine doing hikking in the mountain (which I sometimes do with my parents, even if I'm not a fan) without finding anything to eat. I even know what flowers I can safely eat ^^
@scohe001 Growing up near the beach would make a lot of people jealous too (I might be part of them :p )
@Rainbacon Crocheting the kit I showed in here yesterday, I ordered a book I talked about with Ash on Twitter, and I have two other books that I've half-read that I'm also going to finish. I have Stardew Valley on the Switch and promised @TheTinyMan we'd try a co-op game if we can find a suitable timespot :)
Oh... and I have to clean my room.
Which is usually fun because I find stuff I no longer knew I had XD
Maybe I'm going to visit a zoo with my brother, if he has time to spare. Otherwise, I'll likely visit one by myself (but that's not half as fun)
That's about it, I think :D
user15026
@Tinkeringbell You will have to let me know what you think of Because Internet!
@Rainbacon Oh, I'll do the cleaning when my parent's aren't home... then it's just as relaxing: I can just move stuff out of my room one by one to their bedroom, clean/dust, and move back... and I don't have to do it all in one day!
My cleaning strategy is usually 'it gets worse before it gets better' which doesn't really work if mom is home, but works great if she isn't and just sees the end result when she's back :)
I've recently had a few huge blowups with my family that has shown me how I am both viewed and treated, and I think it's about time that I just cut ties altogether. I guess that I just want to make sure that I'm not overreacting before I pull the trigger.
Sorry, this ended up a lot longer than ...
Yeah, I'm kinda looking forward to it. It also means though that this week is kinda crazy wrt coding: I'm trying to fix something that just keeps presenting more and more edge-cases :/
@Ash It wasn't stereotypical, there was a lot of diversity in it, the characters were deep and touching. They made you feel feelings. I think that last part is the most important for me: being able to be sad with the character and also happy with them. For that, you need real, 3 dimensional characters. Also, the love stories weren't taking all the place. There was just a part of the story but not such an important one.
@Ælis (same thing just happened to me--don't even worry!) I agree with not being able to hike without food. I always bring a bunch of bars and snacks. There's nothing like eating outside :)
@Ælis heh I'm one of those jealous people too. We don't exactly have "beaches" out here in Texas. It's something I miss
@scohe001 I was more talking about the food you found but I do absolutely always have food with me when hiking. Most of the time it's because I'm going to picnic, but I also take "emergency food" with me
@scohe001 That looks like a weird question to me Oo Don't you have a lot of nature too??? I guess, proportionally, we probably have less nature but we still have a lot of it (and it's the green kind of nature, the one that I love the most)
@Ælis idk I mean some states here in the US don't really have any good hikes or trails while others (Oregon/Washington) have a crazy amount of gorgeous nature
@avazula holy moly, y'all have LAND? Time to go to France
@scohe001 Well, we have a crazy amount of different kind of nature in a relatively small area. That what is so great about France, you have every kind of nature available in very few amount of time
@Ælis dang that's pretty cool. Reminds me of Israel. They used to say you could go from snowboarding in the morning to sipping a margarita on the beach that night. @Mith can you confirm?
@Ælis Oh man I didn't actually expect it would have snow since it wasn't explicitly named, now I feel bad... D:
@Tinkeringbell I dunno. I'll come do donuts in your yard or something. :-P
The other dev lead where I work and I were talking about emigrating to The Netherlands today, apparently he's looked into it too :-P So I'll bring my minivan just to do some donuts!
@Ash The summary looks promising, thanks! Too bad these books don't seem to be available in French though :/ Maybe I should start reading more stuff in English, even if it's harder and I don't like it as much
@TheTinyMan If it makes you feel better, we don't actually have tundras ^^
@scohe001 In the winter, when there's snow, yes. It takes about eight-nine hours to get from the Chermon (snow) to Eilat (beach, the other end of the country). And less if you want to head to somewhere not quite as far - it can take like four hours to get from snow to beach.
If your loved one confesses their mistakes ( a mistake that can break relationship ) in past and ask for forgiveness. then forgiving them is a mistake or a blessing? does self realisation of mistake should be awarded or punished?
My coworker that sits right next to me keeps mumbling to herself when she types or reads, not too loud, low-voice mumble that I can hear without understanding words. Is it okay if I ask her to stop doing it? Is it rude?
It really irritates me and disturbs me from my own thinking, but I do not kn...
