So, I was thinking - and this might drift over to meta at some point - that we should start thinking about community ads in the coming weeks.e
I'm putting this out there because I think it's important for this site in particular. Folks have trodden the road of subjectivity on Stack Exchange before, and it would be great to get help from them.
Were we to not count downvotes (for whatever reason), here's how things would be: - HDE (17) - Catija (17) - Crafter0800 (13) - John (11) - Yvette Colomb (11) - AJ (6) - Sagar (3) - Christopher (0, but a recent nomination)
@Catija Making the answers community wiki has worked in the past, IIRC.
Notes:
I'd like to nominate Hamlet for a few reasons:
Contributes high-quality content (both questions and answers) on a variety of topics (poetry, classics, fantasy, etc.)
Involvement on meta, starting important discussions and weighing in with his opinion
One of the top voters on the si...
I think you'd make a good mod @Catija, to be honest, when I first met you I thought you might be too pushy as a mod, but as I've gotten to know you, I really like and think you would be great :)
@YvetteColomb The health of the average person and certain interactions within Stack Exchange would be immensely improved if people just stood up and went for long walks when they get annoyed at another person online.
@HDE226868 Yeah. So true. It's so easy to get wrapped up in things and be insular. The timing yesterday worked out because my husband pinged me to go to lunch.
@GypsySpellweaver this discussion is something that happened in a chat room we are bound not to discuss - it's contents, that's why you're not following - sorry
Yes I understand that, but I would imagine that they'd prefer to have more popular voted nominations, but I have been known to be wrong - about many things :)
But I am mod elsewhere and have also applied for modship on Stack Overflow and if there's any chance I get that, I may well be too busy to mod on two smaller sites (I'm modding on Pets - but that's a very quiet site)
I don't think the modding here will be too challenging
perceptive? intuitive? But a noun. Specifically referring to the psychology of those around her. She knows of others' intentions from paying attention, listening and she has an excellent gauge for what they would do in certain situations. Other characters are conquerors, loyalists, counselors, st...
Notes:
I think Yvette would be a good choice for a few reasons:
She's been active on both the main site and meta consistently. Other folks have more posts than she does on main, but in both cases, Yvette has spread her activity out over time. A good pro tem mod should be committed to stay...
By the way, just saw this on Parenting, might be worth duplicating:
> Please note that opinions shared here should be backed up either with a reference, or experiences that happened to you personally. Also, posts that primarily exist to push a specific agenda (propaganda), and soap-boxing, are not welcome.
@Catija I agree. I've already "paid attention" to some of the cases where the volunteer could improve a bit. I could be more observant - that's for sure - but just observing won't help that much.
Perhaps he's advocating no action, as he wrote "our duty is only to notice they exist".
I really don't see the benefit in that passivity. I think we get a lot of answers that are a bit too passive... but it may depend on where people are. I hear Americans are more forceful than some cultures.
I am new to the whole concept of Stack Exchange and mainly active at English Language and Usage since April 2017. Now English.SE is a site that depends heavily on citations and references to support our answers. How does Interpersonal.SE approach this? I ask because I should like to post answers ...
@Catija amusingly, I wandered over because 1. they were talking about here on Worldbuilding and 2. to see if what @DaaaahWhoosh said - "I dropped in, and then no one said anything. It is exactly what I hoped would happen" would actually happen. It didn't :P I'll stay for a bit, although I'll have to go to bed soon
(also, now I get to wind @DaaaahWhoosh up :) )
(As I'm new here, I should probably append the above to say that I'm only joking, if it's not obvious)
