So, I was thinking - and this might drift over to meta at some point - that we should start thinking about community ads in the coming weeks.e
I'm putting this out there because I think it's important for this site in particular. Folks have trodden the road of subjectivity on Stack Exchange before, and it would be great to get help from them.

Sure... we need someone who can use photoshop and draw, though.

I'm thinking of appealing to The Workplace, RPG, . . .

Parenting doesn't get community ads... no betas do.

@Catija Right, I was being dumb there.

It happens. Parenting is so old it should get them, regardless.
BTW, congrats on your perfect upvote score on the nominations. :D

1:27 AM
Area 51 says it's the 7th-oldest beta site (2331 days = 6.38+ years).
@Catija Thanks.

Yeah.

Though it kinda looks bad.
I didn't downvote any nominations, because I don't think there are any seriously crappy picks there.
I hope folks don't think I did.
I think I've already ranted about the large quantities of unexplained downvotes there, though. :P

I didn't either... I only upvoted the people I liked. You used to have three downvotes, though... didn't you?
I wonder if I edited my post if some of the downvotes would go away.

Yes.

@HenryWHHackv2.0 Why? Wynaut?
@HDE226868 Start the post!

1:29 AM
HA HA HA... I can't even edit it!

Not sure why they went away - the only edits made afterwards were when someone rearranged the structure of the post to make it uniform.

There must be a pending edit or something.

@Catija Lol. :-)
The rep level for editing is now 1,000, not 500.

Oh... well crap.

You could in theory get that tomorrow.

1:30 AM
That's a really, really stupid limit on Metas.

@HDE226868 Oh right. That's why I can't see vote counts anymore :/

And you can't even suggest edits.

@Zizouz212 I want to wait more than 3 hours between meta question.
Maybe at some point tomorrow.

Okay :)
Why does youtube have ads...

@HDE226868 Yeah, I'd bet that Robert was right and they decided to rescind their votes.

1:37 AM
Were we to not count downvotes (for whatever reason), here's how things would be:
- HDE (17)
- Catija (17)
- Crafter0800 (13)
- John (11)
- Yvette Colomb (11)
- AJ (6)
- Sagar (3)
- Christopher (0, but a recent nomination)
@Catija Making the answers community wiki has worked in the past, IIRC.

@HDE226868 That could work.

That gets rid of all the hurdles without any new infrastructure changes.

The only person who can do that is Robert, though.

Unfortunately.

I wonder if any of the other CMs are around.

1:39 AM

Shog's apparently around but I don't want to ping them both. I'll give it a minute.

@HDE226868 wrong about what?

@YvetteColomb I mixed up the requirements for the beta badge and the requirements for fulfilling a commitment.

@HDE226868 ah - so what's the requirements for fulfilling the commitment?
@Catija agree

1:52 AM
@YvetteColomb 10 questions and answers of score > 0.
SE's documentation is not great. At any rate, it's harder to do than get the beta badge.

The thing is, as we've gotten to know each other votes may change
@HDE226868 thanks
wow I have 9 downvotes on my mod nom and no feedback

Can't get downvotes if you never get nominated lol

@Catija they're community wikis now

YAY!

@YvetteColomb I got nine downvotes and I'm a mod.

A: Accepting nominations — Who should moderate this site?

Nathaniel Notes: I'd like to nominate Hamlet for a few reasons: Contributes high-quality content (both questions and answers) on a variety of topics (poetry, classics, fantasy, etc.) Involvement on meta, starting important discussions and weighing in with his opinion One of the top voters on the si...

1:58 AM
I think you'd make a good mod @Catija, to be honest, when I first met you I thought you might be too pushy as a mod, but as I've gotten to know you, I really like and think you would be great :)

@YvetteColomb Considering what happened yesterday I wasn't sure that you felt well of me at all. But I'm glad to hear that.

@Hamlet I'm just surprised that happened here - I am a controversial person. I'm used to the ambivalence from the community
@Catija that's also my way of saying, even though that happened, it doesn't alter my opinion of you.

What is this drama and why was I not invited?

I move past any disagreements I have with people. Quick to forgive and forget.

Yes, I try to do the same... or, should I say, to forgive and move on. I try not to forget because then I can't learn from it :D

2:02 AM
I just don't interact with people. I need not forgive nor forget

@Catija yeh, true, but I mean not associate am unpleasantness with the person.

@YvetteColomb Ah. sure. :)

I also take a time out and return- that helps and then I can see the other people have feelings too. I don't like hurting people

@YvetteColomb The health of the average person and certain interactions within Stack Exchange would be immensely improved if people just stood up and went for long walks when they get annoyed at another person online.

@HDE226868 Yeah. So true. It's so easy to get wrapped up in things and be insular. The timing yesterday worked out because my husband pinged me to go to lunch.

2:07 AM
@HDE226868 Do even more good if the walk included asking themselves why they were annoyed by random words from random strangers.

@GypsySpellweaver I've done that. Albeit as a run, not a walk.

Did you get annoyed by the same thing again later?

Nope.
And I enjoyed the run.

@HDE226868 yep, and I need to work at identifying what is interfering with my communication
@Catija pinged you? lol

@YvetteColomb We work in the same building... he used our inter-office chat.

2:09 AM
@YvetteColomb I think a lot of us can do the same.

@YvetteColomb There's a whole theory of communication. And I'm not smart enough to follow the discussion, let alone solve the problems.

@Catija ah k
@GypsySpellweaver this discussion is something that happened in a chat room we are bound not to discuss - it's contents, that's why you're not following - sorry

Don't need to follow the past. You've apparently learned from it and that's all that's important about history.
Comment was directed at "identifying what is interfering with my communication".

@GypsySpellweaver ah yes, I understand. I have that problem at times also.

the "discussion" I referred to not following was about the theory of communication.

2:16 AM
I did tell you I have trouble following discussion at times :)

In chat it can be even worse. Comments from multiple threads all intertwined like a Gordian knot.

Ohh

lol this is what happens when you live in iglooville :P

2:43 AM is still night :D

Where in the world could you be?

2:46 AM
I could be any where I want to be.
At the moment, however, I am here.

The US is not 3 am!!
Unless I'm dreaming...

I never said it was. Not that I recall anyway.
According to the Myans all the world is a dream.

You're too philosophical for me

2:47 is the current UTC time.

Wait.
Nevermind you're right
I can't believe I checked to see if you were still messing with me :P

2:50 AM
Now, why would I, whom you've never met, choose to mess with you on such an easy to verify fact?
;P

My mind is just not working right now
Though to be fair, when has my mind ever worked -_-

At 2:51 AM why would it be working, eve if it ever did?

It's not 2:51!
Oh wait, it is
Ugh

Or, for local, 10:52 PM

How do you know my time!
Or are you just throwing a random time?

2:53 AM
Profile says Toronto = Eastern Daylight = UTC - 4:00

Oh.
Interesting.
I forgot that was a thing.

You can learn a lot from a dummy. Or, so says the public service announcements.

@NVZ if you pop in here, this is a better place to ask those questions
I'm not familiar with the site rules yet. What kind of answers are on topic here? Personal experience? Professional level opinions? — NVZ 4 mins ago

@GypsySpellweaver You're too confusing for my state of mind

Welcome to my world. Chaos and entropy.

3:00 AM
You've cast a spell on everything here, haven't you?

Isn't that what wandering Gypsys do?

Yes...

You're way too excited over this

I'm contemplating withdrawing my mod nomination on here. I have a net score of 2. So I'm wondering if it is worthwhile keeping it there. Thoughts?

3:03 AM
Highest scores don't win.

Robert, or other CM will decide.

At the end of the day, it is the decision of the community team.
@GypsySpellweaver It's Robert if things don't get backed up. Either him or Grace

Yes I understand that, but I would imagine that they'd prefer to have more popular voted nominations, but I have been known to be wrong - about many things :)

Id say, that from disclosure somewhere else that I can't recall, you are probably the best person for mod on this site.

@YvetteColomb For what it's worth, I was a pretty controversial candidate on my site

3:05 AM
That is such a nice thing to say @GypsySpellweaver

It's a mix of commitment and skill that they want to see

@Zizouz212 that's good to know

I'm going to guess that you know what, and where, I read.

Yep. +17/-8
ArtOfCode was +24/-2

@GypsySpellweaver I have no idea

3:07 AM
He's a gypsy. Don't listen to him.

@Zizouz212 yep that's a split, but you still had a high net score
I have nominated myself on SO as a mod

Actually, I wasn't sure about nominating that site.
Those first few weeks in private/public were... interesting and very stressful to say the least.

If - by some strange fate I am elected - I will withdraw on here for sure. It would be unlikely to be elected on both
More likely to be elected on neither
@Zizouz212 really? I didn't find it stressful. What did you find stressful?

Oh not here, but on Open Source

ah ok
@GypsySpellweaver what the deuce are you talking about? Now I'n curious and puzzled

3:10 AM
There were some people who really wanted me on, and others who really didn't.

Did you not take a break from SE for a while?

@GypsySpellweaver yes
and?
@Zizouz212 yes - that figures

But I'll keep it at that.

Somewhere you explained about that, and I read it. What you've learned during that break makes you a good mod choice.

that's people, we have personalities
@GypsySpellweaver this
it's all clear now

3:14 AM
That be the one.

I think it has made me wiser and more understanding of the ethos of the site

I might be an odd ball, but the break, and the post, both speak well for a mod on this site of all sites.

ah yes I see what you mean

Well, correction, I am and odd ball, but in this case I may not be alone.

I really don't mind. I think there's some good nominations on here, who will do a superb job - same with stack overflow
so I'm not worried ttytt - I will leave the nomination there - I just felt it might have just become clutter

3:16 AM
I also think that our glorious overlords (read CMs) will see what I see.

Yes I think they do
But I am mod elsewhere and have also applied for modship on Stack Overflow and if there's any chance I get that, I may well be too busy to mod on two smaller sites (I'm modding on Pets - but that's a very quiet site)
I don't think the modding here will be too challenging

If you do get SO then this probably would be too much. I don't think this will be nearly as quiet as Pets is.
As you said, people have personalities, and they are likely to show their colours here.

@GypsySpellweaver I think how they may show their true colours here will be in a more positive light, as many people are opening up
@GypsySpellweaver yes I think it will be too much. I'm also studying and working - but I enjoy being busy :)

I suspect you're a good choice on SO as well, but the electorate is always fickle, at best.

I'm thinking I will withdraw my mod nomination here. It's a bit of a foot in two camps with the SO modship happening at the same time.

Always your call.
Discretion is the better part of valor.

yep I've withdrawn officially
I'm just mentioning it in here as it's polite

A: Accepting Nominations — Who should moderate this site?

HDE 226868 Notes: I think Yvette would be a good choice for a few reasons: She's been active on both the main site and meta consistently. Other folks have more posts than she does on main, but in both cases, Yvette has spread her activity out over time. A good pro tem mod should be committed to stay...

Best of luck with the SO camp.
@YvetteColomb I've got a couple questions about Charcoal, if you care to answer?

@GypsySpellweaver I'm in an online uni lecture, so later I can

By the way, just saw this on Parenting, might be worth duplicating:
> Please note that opinions shared here should be backed up either with a reference, or experiences that happened to you personally. Also, posts that primarily exist to push a specific agenda (propaganda), and soap-boxing, are not welcome.

So, my inbox just exploded.
Which of course happened while I was at work.
Geez, 122 Hotness points.

That's what you get for being a crappy driver who drives under the speed limit /joke.
Some of those comments need to be moved to chat, really.
But, hey! Congrats on the HNQ?
Oooh, we should get a HNQ bot like some of the other rooms have.

@Catija I guess. If the question and answers are the kind of stuff we want to advertise.

It'd only be the questions... and only the top 50. The bots can't check the entire list.
And we could always remove any that are bad questions.
(from in here).
But it's not on the HNQ? Maybe I missed it.

Does this count as an answer?
@Catija It shows up on the first page for me.

9:16 PM
I don't see it...
@HDE226868 It is technically answering the question, I suppose.

That's Page 1.

Yeah, I don't see it. Have you refreshed recently?

Yep.

I have the same first two and then it skips to an ELU question.
:/

Hm. I tried it on another browser (Chrome), both logged into SE and in incognito mode, logged out.
Still the same.

9:24 PM
Must be on different servers.

Yeah, perhaps.
@Catija That would be really handy.

I tried an incognito window and still didn't get the question. Are there any other questions from IPS on the HNQ?

I don't see any.

OK. Hmmm.

9:48 PM
@Hamlet So, the volunteer was back today. Things with him went well (definitely not perfect, but better) without me needing to do any drastic.
@YvetteColomb Your nomination appears to have garnered a few more votes immediately after you declined it. The irony.

@HDE226868 That one answer I commented on was a bit confusing. I wish they'd flesh it out a bit.

@Catija I agree. I've already "paid attention" to some of the cases where the volunteer could improve a bit. I could be more observant - that's for sure - but just observing won't help that much.
Perhaps he's advocating no action, as he wrote "our duty is only to notice they exist".

I really don't see the benefit in that passivity. I think we get a lot of answers that are a bit too passive... but it may depend on where people are. I hear Americans are more forceful than some cultures.

I think I'm in general overly passive, which has influenced my questions. Therefore, I look for the opposite in answers.

Q: What is the site recommendation for citations and references when we post an answer here?

English StudentI am new to the whole concept of Stack Exchange and mainly active at English Language and Usage since April 2017. Now English.SE is a site that depends heavily on citations and references to support our answers. How does Interpersonal.SE approach this? I ask because I should like to post answers ...

10:03 PM
Then I advise you to come to a complete stop in the middle of the road and refuse to move until the person tailgating you agrees to cut it out.

Welcome to The Awkward Silence, @Mithrandir24601 and @sphennings.

@HDE226868 'quiet, awkward cough'

I don't know if one room can handle two Miths...
:P

Am I supposed to awkwardly leave or something now? :P

Hee hee. NO! @mith Stay. It will make pinging interesting.

10:12 PM
@Catija amusingly, I wandered over because 1. they were talking about here on Worldbuilding and 2. to see if what @DaaaahWhoosh said - "I dropped in, and then no one said anything. It is exactly what I hoped would happen" would actually happen. It didn't :P I'll stay for a bit, although I'll have to go to bed soon
(also, now I get to wind @DaaaahWhoosh up :) )
(As I'm new here, I should probably append the above to say that I'm only joking, if it's not obvious)

So it's all @DaaaahWhoosh's fault, then. Good to know who to blame.
I actually have to do some work for a bit, so I'm going to toddle off.
