Spends an hour figuring out why a function doesn't work. Can't get wp_debug to display errors. Figures out it was an accidental is_empty() instead of empty(). Cute.
I don't think it's crucial but I also work for a small company and not an agency. That being said it's not a bad idea to be familiar with the available preprocessors as they're not really too hard to pick up once you know the basics. It may allow you to at least get in the door and if the team uses one in their development cycle it will be easier to fall in line.
@MichaelEcklund no, but decent agencies will use them, usually SASS. If you know CSS, SASS is only a quick jump, you can learn it in a day or less. Same with LESS
so what have you got to lose?
@MichaelEcklund object IDs get exposed in the REST API, and post class names, it's not really an issue
