Can't get rid of the feeling that all the noise we made about WooCommerce just pushed more people into our direction.

yep
...exactly.

@kaiser let's migrate them all to SO

301 redirect all WooCommerce questions back to woocommerce.com

In 50 new WooCommerce Questions we got 15 answers. Guess the WooCommerce team is already taken somewhere else. We shut up and things are done.

bad enough they stole Jigoshops developers, now they are trying to steal our answers.

1:28 AM
Create a canonical question WTF? WooCommerce?, and close all other questions as duplicates.

A: Adopt a tag! Help to keep our site clean

kaiserI take woocommerce as it's an easy one. Simply close vote anything as not a single one in the last weeks met the minimum criteria for asking a question.

hehe

The really bad thing is, that is messing up our answer rate like nothing else before.

is that an addon to WooCommerce?

1:31 AM
oh, no. that surely was a typo. sadly the time I got to edit already passed.
@userabuser upvote my meta answer. @toscho is punching me with downvotes.
(and flag his comment)

good luck

i gave you up vote, send me payment to paypal now
pay-per-vote

sigh sorry, doesn't work over here. paypal keeps telling me "pay-per-vote not yet available in your country. try buy-politicians in the meanwhile".
he! I start liking the "unclear what you're asking" close vote. It's so subjective that I can apply it to anything that I don't know shit about. Including WooCommerce.

hahaha

In all seriousness: why are we not simply closing all WooCommerce questions on-sight?

1:39 AM
not all woo questions are actually specific to woo

@toscho I stopped looking several weeks ago, when I just added the tag to my ignore list
But are there any examples of a good-quality, on-topic WooCommerce question?

this guy was that afraid of the fact that I responded to his "found the answer!" comment, that he removed it. guess we can close that one. will stay open forever.

5 upvotes – no, the question isn’t really good, but there was obviously some interest

this one doesn't count as woo question

why?

1:45 AM
because it could as well be any generic cpt question. just happens to have the tag
anyway, this question + answer show the quality of research and effort perfectly. answer is plain link to documentation at woo, question is "sketch whole task for me and little bit of code pls"

@kaiser ...which is the litmus test for the question being on topic for WPSE

6 mins ago, by toscho
not all woo questions are actually specific to woo

thought you were replying to...
6 mins ago, by Chip Bennett
But are there any examples of a good-quality, on-topic WooCommerce question?

sometimes you can abstract the woo part away, sometimes not. closing all woo questions immediately would be stupid

@toscho good-quality questions generally stand out, regardless of question premise.

1:47 AM
btw, chip. could you please stop faving stuff that you simply agree with? the community bot twitters stuff on fav and things there are mostly out of context.

that’s not the community bot

also it makes it harder for me to scan the fav list for part 2 of that post :)

@toscho 99% of WooCommerce questions can be closed with a fairly cursory glance

@toscho you? Andrey?

@kaiser so what is the point of the stars, if not to express assent/agreement with a comment?

1:49 AM
@bungeshea, if I remember that correctly

@ChipBennett keeping it for later. bookmark list of hilarious stuff, summoned here.
you can look on the right hand side below our avatars. there's the list of "favs".

@ChipBennett that’s an exaggeration

@ChipBennett read some of the quotes in my post.

@toscho is it? What would not be an exaggeration? 90%? 75%?

@kaiser our stars are not made for your lists.

1:51 AM
then you got a BIIIG misunderstanding of how the world keeps turning, @toscho

Maybe we could get some written rules on using markdown in comments, and appropriate use of chat stars? I didn't realize I've been violating so many community conventions.

@ChipBennett honestly, I don’t know. I have no detailed stats.

seems like @ChipBennett still is a padavan. we'll get around that. :)

@toscho here's the tag page; out of 50, I see maybe one valid, on-topic question (and that doesn't even get into question quality): wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/tagged/woocommerce

@ChipBennett I count 9 acceptable questions. That’s still very bad, but more than 1%. :)

1:58 AM
Maybe I should open a new Meta (with a date and a funky bar on top of main): 200 points worth of bounty for the guy who finds the on topic WooCommerce question.

@toscho that's being very generous.

@ChipBennett 9 questions I could answer without knowing anything about WooCommerce

@ChipBennett Now go and tell @toscho that he should list them and explain why the questions are on topic. Then argue through all of them. Entertainment!

@toscho so the best-case scenario is that 80% of WooCommerce questions are, at a minimum, off-topic
(we've not yet even considered question quality)

I don’t know if the other questions are off topic. I have just read the titles and the excerpt.

2:03 AM
Here's one of those ostensibly on-topic questions, that would still be closed because it is unclear and too broad:

Q: How to display ONLY featured products on home page with woocommerce?

abyssalI have a woocommerce wordpress website. I want to display only the featured products on the main page, which is set to Shop in the Woocommerce admin. The problem is it will show me the featured products and the normal post loop that Woocommerce prints by default. Example here: http://bit.ly/1c49...

Simple answer: remove the woo hook for the frontpage or replace the template in your theme

@toscho I guarantee that such an answer would be a non-starter
"I don't know how to do that. Can you please give me the codes?"

maybe
but an answer is possible and on topic
:P

@toscho also trivial and not useful to the community at-large

trivial questions and answers are acceptable.
if they help someone, they are welcome

6 hours later…
7:58 AM
way to wuck start of my morning, people

ask me, @Rarst ...
completely different topic: JigoShop has no sort of documentation, right?
nvm, found it

@kaiser it does, just not very good last time I looked at it

@userabuser Then please add it at that wiki :)

Wow, user tweets me that they're looking for an Event Organiser ready theme other than "Clinto". Turns out that someone has dumped the plug-in in a theme and is selling it on ThemeForest ... themeforest.net/item/…

actually are 2 menus assigned in that location.Is that a problem? — Antonio Papa 15 mins ago
No, that’s not a problem. It is impossible. — toscho 2 mins ago
@StephenHarris Is your pro plugin GPL?

@toscho Its not Pro, as far as I'm aware. Free version. But yeah. Just would have been nice if he'd told me :). There's also the requirement that he credit me - but I believe that's just in the source code. What would have been nicer was if he just made it "EO-ready" with a quick install, then I'd be happy to point people to it.

if he is actually embedding GPL code and selling result under restricted license he is not in the right, I would complain

that’s true

@Rarst mmm... you're right. Had assumed his theme was GPL too

9:18 AM
not listed as such (although Envato does have such option now)

or was regular a split one?

@Rarst Doesn't look like it

Regular is not GPL: restricted usage

@toscho oh wait, see #13

@StephenHarris I wonder if that is legal.

it is murky, that is to make certain if it is or isn't legal is taking it to court and stuff
if it's not clearly breaking non-murky part of GPL easier to let it go

if the theme works when you take the GPL code away, it is not a derivative, and the usage is okay

what is GPL source code for JPEG image? meh, screw that... the fact of life is Envato works like that for a long time and if it was easy to determine it's not legal - Matt would

@toscho I think generally the idea of a split license is legal (Can't find relevant line now). But if theme could be considered a derivative then obviously its not ok.

9:26 AM
@StephenHarris it is in general, however it also tends to imply separate distribution, etc, etc. it's a huge mess.

sorry guys. didn't read what you were writing and didn't want to jump in between. :P

Relevant paragrarph:
ah too long :/
First paragraph above section 6: gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html

and I refuse to talk GPL any futher. there are important things in life.

@kaiser no worries :)

like tea and breakfast.

9:28 AM
IMO the admins have been overzealous to hold the question and have either completely misunderstood the question or don't have the necessary knowledge to respond to it. source
someone is very upset. Leave closed.

"don't have the necessary knowledge to respond to it" - really?

yeah, that is very common assumption that mods are too dumb to grok the genius asking the question.

did he miss anything?

anu
I think he missed out his pioneering research into fundamental physics at CERN
But apart from that, no

9:33 AM
@anu Really?! Guess that makes two of us then. Hmm... kind of feel less special now

It feels nice to be smarter than Einstein II.

Guess this guy collided with himself outside of CERN.

Highest rep on Movies & TV. Hm.

@StephenHarris I guess you can go wild on this guy on Envato. Best ping Japh via Twitter. This guy makes lots of things very wrong. Advising people to hack his code directly to "fix" stuff, lots of unsatisfied comments related to events, etc.
I think Envato doesn't want to have that low quality overall on their site at a constant basis.
@StephenHarris You should as well consider splitting your license statement: This plugin is released under the GPL for stand alone usage. If used as part of other software, the XYZ license applies.

@kaiser doesn't work like that

9:41 AM
Split license doesn't work? Since when?

you cannot restrict how GPL code is used beyond GPL
stand alone / part of doesn't matter

No, but you can tell which license applies in which case. That's perfectly valid.

anu
No you can't
That's the whole point of the GPL

you can't, if GPL applies in any case they can do whatever because of it

anu
Well, one of them

9:43 AM
@kaiser Great, this guy makes a theme and they complain about the events part :P. Haven't decided what I'll do if anything yet. Its been going since February and I've only had one support request from a customer of his (and I told them go to theme dev - I assumed the user was editing the theme - didn't release it was the developer)

GPL doesn't apply in any case. Else Thesis, Envato, etc. wouldn't work, right?

@kaiser With TF GPL is applied to parts of a theme/plug-in, not to context.

@Rarst that GPL applies in any case is your assumption :)

if I got GPL code from you I can do whatever GPL says I can without caring what you think about it. that's the whole point.

while(TRUE) gpl_debate();toscho May 23 at 5:45

9:45 AM
@Rarst Yeah, but you'll have to choose a license when downloading/integrating based on your use case. The whole fucking license world turns like that. (A) Select use case that applies to you (B) get license applied. Just look at any remote API out there.

fuck

@Rarst you ok?

I talked about GPL.

He still can type

I am not ok. and I blame kaiser. and I am having my freaking breakfast. :)

9:46 AM
@StephenHarris It matters shit nothing where they put license. It just matters where you apply license.

anu
I think he's stunned that people don't understand even the most basic elements of the GPL

@Rarst yeah, I'd noticed :)

anu
right, running away from GPL debate

@Rarst you should consider starting to eat along side your cat. Will put monitor out of side and deliver a reason to clean the floor sooner than later as well :)
Guys, the point I try to make isn't even about the GPL but about any licensing out there: If you attach different licenses to different use cases, then the selection of the use case happens before GPL and therefore you can force whatever license you want whenever you want. I'm not going into derivatives of [foo] license stuff discussion.

@kaiser Yes, I can upon delivery, issue the plug-in under a license of my choosing. But the plug-in is on the .org, so they receive the code under GPL, and so may do what they wish. I cannot retrospectively change that license if they choose to use it elsewhere or do something with it.

9:49 AM
Sure, you'd have to take it down from there.
Or implement something like an attached model: Strip down base plugin, retrieve parts of plugin via your site with different license model.
Anyway, in your case I'd just blindly shoot at that guy via Envato route. Prepare some tweets and a blog post that you share on G+, twitter and poststat.us, etc. to accompany your request, break some discussion off the fence and put some pressure on TF/Envato and that "fuck you"-mentality-guy.

@kaiser But code is issued with a definite license. Not conditional one. So at download they may select the conditions under which they will use the plug-in, and I change the license accordingly. But if the license gives them freedom to do whatever, (i.e. GPL), then they can. The license cannot change based on where the code is used, unless the license it self dictates which terms apply under which conditions (and therefore could never be GPL).
@kaiser I could. Or I could make similar theme, and do things 'properly' and sell that. Probably not on TF because no-one wants to make buy a properly built theme. They want sliders, marquee text, pop-ups and facebook. TF customers are not ones I particularly want to deal with...

I'm pretty sure Envato doesn't support having such a crap in their repo. Just get in contact with them and if doesn't fully work out put enough public pressure on them.
@StephenHarris I scanned through two pages of his comment stream. 2 sales = 1 comment and most weren't as bad as I'd expect.

@kaiser Generally comments are fairly positive (and rating too). A lot of "I want it to do something completely different" or "How do I.." requests.
To be honest, I'm kind of flattered that he's using EO. I just wish that he'd done it properly (i.e. kept EO as a plug-in which you can quickly install). Since then his users won't be left behind with updates/bug-fixes, and I could point to it as an EO-ready theme, and the various other extensions (inc. Pro) would work with it. One comment mentioned bookings and that the theme didn't work with Event Expresso - done properly he could have just pointed them to Pro.
I've long since proposed to Japh that I write a series for wptuts on the "ecosystem" of plug-in & themes, how developers can help them work well together (and why its still difficult), how market places drive themes to adopt features etc. He said yes, but I've yet to pen anything...

10:11 AM
Come on, Stephen. Honestly: This is not what Envato wants. They added guidelines for a reason. Ping Japh, ask him what's up there and why that theme is allowed to do that. Based on the answer you can easily consider additional steps.
Completely off topic. Again a user who doesn't want to understand what this site is about:
k but i also want help and i said where to edit not what to paste. any way Thanks — Monika 1 hour ago
@ kaiser if you can help someone then help Please don't do demoralization. I asked this question after doing a lot of work on my PC but still didn't reached at any solution that is why i asked here.:( — Monika 33 mins ago

@kaiser Or you could calm down and try to find an agreement …

kaiser please consider just saying nothing and moving on. blow steam elsewhere. babysitting comment thread of high ranking users is last freaking thing I need as mod.

Blow steam elsewhere? Calm down? Babysitting? I put it in here so someone else cares about following up as I'm just tired of answer that again and again. Not angry or in the need to blow steam anywhere. You deleted enough of my comments already to know how my style of writing is when I get angry on someone :)

I don't care. you and Chip have been having passive agressive party in the comments lately. I don't want to clean that up on top of everything else I am cleaning up.
the comments are not for anyone to have a blast explaining others errors of their ways.

I second that.

11:19 AM
HI, All can any one help me wordpress problem?

hiya, this is not help kind of room in general. consider asking it as question on main site if it fits the scope
people might be up to talk here if it seems interesting and doesn't quite fit as question though

Ok

use "add media" to select from media library

11:43 AM
@Rarst if any of my comments have been inappropriate, call them out specifically. So far, the only thing I've been told is that I shouldn't use formatting in comments.

will do.

I make an effort to point out ways that questions need to be improved so that they are a good fit for WPSE. It's neither my fault nor my problem if the OP takes offense.

I do not question intentions, the form and results of the effort however are becoming rather unfitting at times.

@Rarst where is the source of that problem? Is it with the members who act according to SE community-moderation practices to try to bring questions in-line with SE conventions, or with the people who come in, make no effort to learn how SE sites work, and ask off-topic, low-quality questions and then get upset when asked to improve their questions?

> Be nice.

> Civility is required at all times; rudeness will not be tolerated. Treat others with the same respect you’d want them to treat you because we’re all here to learn, together. Be tolerant of others who may not know everything you know, and bring your sense of humor.

11:50 AM
The last line might be problem: bring your sense of humor

@Rarst fine. And if I'm ever uncivil, feel free to call me out on it.

if you are upsetting people maybe how they perceive it is not as constructive and tolerant as you perceive it

@Rarst case in point: the person who lost his stuff at me yesterday, merely because I asked him to clarify how a SoundCloud API problem was WordPress-specific, and then quoting from the FAQ regarding questions not being on-topic here merely because they happen in the context of WordPress
I can't control how such people perceive things, nor do I care to.

anu
@ChipBennett Fine, then expect many people to think you're rude and socially inept.
Which shouldn't bother you

@anu kindly point out a rude comment I've made

anu
11:57 AM
@ChipBennett No

@anu then if you can't point out a rude comment I've made: no, it doesn't bother me.

2 hours later…
1:29 PM
good morning

clearly you need a minute to catch up on log

Oh. Well, this made me laugh from a recent first-post: "Its a so ezy!"

Anyone else not seeing the automatic update fire for WordPress 3.7.1? It's been... over 12 hours now, I think.

oh ya. i manually applied it without thinking
on at least one server

@GhostToast I'm watching 3 different installs (2 MS) on 2 different servers. None have fired.

1:41 PM
@ChipBennett Weren't they going to stagger it? I.e. release 3.7.1 to 10% then 20% etc. Or maybe I'm thinking long-term plans...

> In order for Automatic Updates to be enabled, there are a few simple requirements:

If the install uses FTP for updates (and prompts for credentials), automatic updates are disabled
If the install is running as a SVN or GIT checkout, automatic updates are disabled
If the constants DISALLOW_FILE_MODS or AUTOMATIC_UPDATER_DISABLED are defined, automatic updates are disabled
If the constant WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE is defined as false, automatic updates are disabled
Your WordPress install also needs to be able to contact WordPress.org over HTTPS connections, so your PHP install also needs OpenSSL

@StephenHarris yeah, I had thought of that too - but wouldn't that impact the upgrade notice as well?

@ChipBennett gradual rollout over 36 hours or something

Premium users get their updates first.

@GhostToast already ran Background Update Checker Plugin on the sites in question: all a-ok

1:42 PM
@ChipBennett perhaps not if you want to jump the gun. two different checks. 1 <-- release; 2 <-- auto-update

@GhostToast I'm looking up those transients right now; going to output them in my dev version of Update Control, for debugging

@ChipBennett That would be the logical conclusion. Maybe they've got a separate API for upgrade notice and automatic upgrade. It would seem odd to suppress the upgrade notice when it has always been present as soon as a new version is released.

@StephenHarris I would think just the opposite (logical): I can see the current behavior being VERY confusing for users

One in every 1024 sites are currently being served auto updates to WordPress 3.7.1. @dd32 is increasing that each hour. 100% come tomorrow.

get upgrade notice... but automatic update not firing for up to 36 hours

1:45 PM
1/1024 doesnt seem random at all

Is that a "soft release" of sorts, for testing mass roll-out of automatic updates? Or do we expect that to be the norm?

don't ask us... :)

(Working on FAQ question for Update Control Plugin; I've already been asked about it.)

@ChipBennett That's what I meant, your suggestion that update/notice should appear together would be from a code perspective logical. So I'm guessing they simply didn't want to suppress upgrade notices, even though automatic updates are rolled out gradually.

@StephenHarris probably should update the upgrade notice text, then :)

1:47 PM
I'd like to know how they manage gradual roll out. Is it 1 in every 1024 *requests?

lottery!

So, if I constantly delete the update_core site transient, and spam the updater, I have a better chance of winning the lottery? :)

@ChipBennett That's what I'm thinking. On average it'll only take 1024 attempts :). Maybe that's a plug-in idea :)

nice. unfortunate side-effect: wp servers go down instantly
why wait in line at all? since you can obviously do it manually

@GhostToast I'm sure they'll cope :)

1:51 PM
@StephenHarris maybe something somewhat sane: like reduce the transient to 1 hour instead of 12

@StephenHarris Update Roulette On Steroids

your own site will need to process all its functions and and hooks in order for any of that to work too i assume.

@GhostToast Because we like the magic. Besides they didn't spend all that time adding automatic updates for us to go an update manually. It would be ungentlemanly.

wp-cron has to fire i mean?
if a site is never visited in the woods, does it automatically update?

@GhostToast does it matter?

1:53 PM
@chip_bennett @nacin This is slower than in future. 7am/7pm will be the timeslot. autoupdates will start at an unknown hour after a release

@toscho of course not. just a funny predicament.

so the good news is: hackers can trigger the auto-update

@toscho That would be counter-productive, no?
For a hacker

depends on who is faster

lame script kiddie DDoS saves the Internet from massive hack

2:07 PM
what is the name of the upgrade timeout transient?
update_core is the update object
I'm guessing there's a correlating _timeout transient?
but I get false for update_core_timeout

it would be a newer transient, so can you use that to find it nearer the end of the table?
on a less-busy site
@ChipBennett this key: _site_transient_update_core has a last_checked in it
its a big fat array

Chip, theres a q on the site about plugins that came out of answers. Theres - IiRC - one for transients or cron inspection as well.

@GhostToast _site_transient - not _transient #facepalm

Ah, yeah that name changed several times :)

oddly enough, _site_transient_timeout_update_core is returning false
_site_transient_update_core has an object with the shiny new WordPress version

2:21 PM
yes
and perhaps "last checked" is all it needs
and is thrown against some internal function

I need more coffee, apparently. How do I convert int(1383134449) into human-readable time. I tried human_time_diff( int(1383134449) ) but no luck

hehe
echo date('r', $timestamp); will get you started

@ChipBennett date_i18n()

@Rarst out of curiosity, is there anything date_i18n() does which makes it better than php's date() ?

never use date() in WP, it won't do what you expect it to do

2:29 PM
well. unless you surrender yourself to GMT like i have

of course WP version is way bugged, but at least it will produce expect result most of the time

<center><b><h2>WELCOME TO THE CLINIC!!</h2></b></center>

guy on trac completely derailed my date_i18n() shorthand formats ticket :(
the final straw was him going and renaming it this morning :)
you don't go and freaking rename someone's ticket, that is not Stack Exchange

@ChipBennett though if you talk to @kaiser he will tell you everything should be DateTime() objects

"Update core last checked = 30 Oct 13, 12:00:49 pm"

2:35 PM
and you're -4 GMT so... 8 am?
or -5

-5 I think

mine is: Wed, 30 Oct 2013 13:26:48 GMT

2:36 PM
(in human_time_diff)
now if I can just check where that transient timeout is set
er, find that is

@GhostToast You can pass results from DateTime to date_i18n. It's just easier to handle the processing and creation of the timestamp

i'm having connection/latency issues on main site. anyone else?

yep

3:12 PM
About 24,000 auto updates have taken place without any problems. Half of all installs are now being told to update as the rollout continues.
the plot thickens
yawn

like watching soup boil
i will say it is painful to work in a wp site, seeing the WordPress 3.7.1 is available! Please update now. message, and not click on it.

put error log widget on dashboard, update notification would quickly become insignificant distraction

@Rarst ever consider adding option in your error log widget to purge the error logs?

3:53 PM
nope, writing is pain

4:14 PM
bothered me that this wasn't in codex so i created it based on queryposts codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_get_nav_menu_object

Finally got my laptop back and somehow working.

So, it seems that the core team don't see any wisdom in facilitating development milestone updates (i.e. beta/RC, rather than bleeding-edge nightlies)
#sigh
I'm using the code "as it is", tried on options page and in multiple different files to make sure (such as page.php). The code for updating single field works perfectly everywhere, this one doesn't. Maybe I should wrap this with a function or something? — Wordpressor 57 mins ago

so how does everyone here pay the bills? freelance? work for a small company that does web? big company? manage a couple sites for a different kind of company? curious.

I take money from my bank account and number gets smaller. don't tell me, I know the strategy has sustainability issues.

lolwut

why not?

@Rarst owns his own company

8:18 PM
because I profoundly hate the idea of working for Matt, among other things?

Yeah...
Why is there a tag for plugin recommendation? — Annie Caron 47 secs ago

for myself that is, no issue with anyone else working there

i might be needing to make a change soon myself. i hate being in that position.

respectively question why don't I work for Automattic had never been raised by Automattic :)

@Rarst i dont think we are meant to be handed things in this world. i think we have to ask for them or go get them

8:22 PM
I am getting at that I am high enough on shit list for that not to be an option :)

no clue what bad blood there is between you and automattic. seems you could have your pick of many higher-end jobs. there or elsewhere

there is no bad blood, there is a lot of difference in perspective and Matt is not a person I would trust to handle such differences gracefully
what makes you think that I don't? :)

don't what? have a job? i think you've said as much at some point
or have your pick? dont know. take your time i guess.

a pick :)
thou "higher end" would be overconfident. I am pretty sure I have enough rep to not starve at least...

@Rarst don't sell yourself short.

8:31 PM
you observe me in environment where I am unpaid volunteer with full control over what I do and how :) jobs are not so comfy like that...

Ran out of close votes. This hasn't happened for a long time.

sure. i am at a job now.

8:42 PM
@Rarst you'd certainly be welcomed by Human Made and Interconnect
and you can command a higher salary than most people in this community could
Im sure there are people willing to help contribute towards expenses for conferences too if you'd ask for help
it's weird that you've only been to WCEU, yet you're hardly a stranger online

the issue is not whom to ask, the issue is how to find good fit for not the most easy person me

also, when I select text in sublime, it highlights every other occurrence of it, but PHPStorm doesnt do this, I cant find a setting to make it do so =(
and cmd+shift+d to duplicate a line has become more of a habit than I realise

@TomJNowell Ctrl+Shift+F7

Also what are the colours

@TomJNowell sure that works. at least for me on win. if it doesn't work, simply select something and hit Ctrl + F for search. That highlights as well.

PhpStorm pro tip - whenever you need to find how to do something Ctrl+Shift+A and start typing something related, fastest way to look up things

*client:* "please make exit popup dialogue if someone clicks on external link"
*me:* "You are about to make a poor decision! Are you sure you wish to do that? Click _Ok_ to confirm, or _Cancel_ to join the 21st century!"

that's actually not uncommon for legal reasons

i know. but i hate it. yes its a bank website.
i hate the idea of intense covering of asses. is the bank linking to questionable websites?

At least make it a nice dialog instead of plain alert. I recommend Vex/Hubspot (see GitHub)

look like a lot of work
for something that can otherwise be achieved with 1 line of code

well, it's not that hard.
vex.dialog.confirm( {
    message : 'Hello! Do not leave! We love you too much!',
    callback :  function( value ) {
         return value ? 'Gone!' : 'Stayed...';
    }
} );
jQuery is a prerequisite.
@Rarst @toscho not sure what to think about that request. somehow it sounds valid and the situation on their live site is like it got described. on the other hand it as well sounds a bit like someone trying to do something he isn't allowed for a reason.

9:42 PM
@kaiser cant seem to get it to stop user from exiting

@GhostToast have you tried event.preventDefault()?
wait.. was it that? have to search. sec.

@kaiser seems more or less fine to me

@GhostToast ok, should work. it's what I've written above: event.preventDefault().
@Rarst ok. didn't want to flag that.

@kaiser thanks. got it working. return value ? document.location = $link.attr('href') : // did not leave;

9:51 PM
kool thing :)

but now must determine if link was meant for target="_blank'

Take a look at the themes as well. Hint: Just choose a general style as it can be styled easily via css rules.

screw it. just gonna window.open all of these. if they set rel="ext"
that is my trigger

hm. getting tons of mailer deamon messages in my spam folder. flooding. wonder what causes that?

Q: Ability to minimize oneboxes in chat

Carrie KendallOften times chatrooms can get overrun by oneboxes. Room owners and mods can move irrelevant oneboxes to a bin but sometimes these messages are relevant and shouldn't be binned. It would be really great if there was a way to minimize them client-side with the ability to maximize them if needed. ...

There is a user script doing that. Works nice.

10:57 PM
Chrome doesn't let me execute user scripts in chat? check.
