@AnkurBanerjee u can get that job as human as well,,,, no need to be monkey
get a flying lisence..
Nooo, flying (the actual profession) is a stressful job.
yes it is,,,
but you get tons of girls,, to relieve you from the stress,,,,
ton of money,,,

@MarcelC. No need to be mean :) You got flagged as offensive, that was as kind a reaction I could give you. Saves me and you hassles if you keep discussions to the chat room rather than in comments.

I didn't even express an opinion on the UAE's laws, yet travel.stackexchange.com/q/16040/324 got comments from 5 other people.
I wouldn't have included the last sentence, except that people would accuse me of trying to engage in homosexuality, adultery or fornication in Dubai!
I have no such plans - I have no plans to engage in homosexuality or adultery, and I only plan to fornicate in Japan!
@HaLaBi which country do you get them in?
08:15
@MarkMayo just curious, when you were talking about the UAE's rights, were you talking about their legal rights to create whatever legislation they want to, their moral rights to create whatever legislation they want to, or just their ability to create whatever legislation they want to?
@AndrewGrimm I get them from your home town.
08:32
@HaLaBi Stay classy, HaLaBi.
Why do u ask me such a question?
09:18
you guys waste too much time

Otohime (toilet flushing sound)? There's an app for that.

149 votes so far, election closes in 5 hours
where do you see the votes?
and a lot of votes!
the participation seems to be quite high
I think this badge is the best indicator
14:45
but works only now , for the first election :)
It would work or the next election too, but then we have to count manualy
Exactly... or write a small query
or even simpler
you just look at the timestamp next to the badge attribution and you can figure for which election it has been awarded
write down the number of badges after this election and subtract it from the new number :)
yup
simple math, eh
query would not work very well, the data in data.stackexchange.com is updated monthly
14:49
Yes simple, but evil maths tends to present itself as simple before getting outrageous complicated
4
I'm not talking about data.stackexchange, but the API
15:13
Bayern - Juve or PSG - Barca, that's the question
That's a trivial question...
Why do I have to work?
And even better why do I have to be in the office to do it?
Just take a day off or do home office
I wish I could. Day Off I can't take or I don't get paid. Consulting....
And this company doesn't allow working from home unless you are doing support.
you're bayern fan, you're gonna watch their game
but I ask myself which of both gonna be more interesting
15:18
They want to see my ugly mug in the office
sometimes I wish to work at home too
and not to spend my youth in a train :)
16:06
Train or bus I don't mind. But overall lack of necessity of personal participation I do.
16:20
@RoflcoptrException 149 users out of 778 users entitled to vote. That yields a participation rate of 19%. I find that this is a poor result for a site who wants to be "democratic" ...
Not every user visits the site every week
I think that most of the active user have voted
@MarcelC. I think 19% is quite a high rate for such a vote
@RoflcoptrException Is there a benchmark for comparison?
I'm sure there is
Anyway, I think people are not really interested in participating in votes like this. For example when we at our university vote for the students who should represent us, we have a rate of about 5% and this is historically considered to be quite high
Even if it is a vote in the RL, a 50% rate can be quite high (obviously this depends on many circumstances)
@RoflcoptrException RL?
16:30
Real life. The thing that does not happen in your computer.
4
@RoflcoptrException It can be lack of interest. But also a poor implementation: inadequate deadlines, insufficient publicity, etc.
Yes maybe...Even though I personally do not know how you could achieve a even better publicity or how deadlines could detain you from participating

1 hour later…
17:41
@RoflcoptrException: Material Sciences in Zurich used to have ~80% participation. Participation requires that people feel invested in the community. Getting them to feel like that is hard, but can be done (it's easier for smaller communities)
Also, the threshold for participation in the election is quite low -- 300, if memory serves. That's not hard to obtain for one-time contributors (basically, ask a question or two and then stop visiting)
19% seems an okay-ish figure, given the circumstances. obviously, more is better, but 150 voters should be representative enough of the preferences of the community
Yes I think so.... here in the chat there are the same 15 people all the time
And Travel SE users are travelling, so maybe they haven't seen the vote yet :)
@MartinTapankov: The threshold is 150, actually
lol yeah.. I kind of feel it should have been better promoted.. all I got was an easily missed notification in my inbox
@Jonas: threshold? is there one for SE elections?
>>In the election phase, up to 10 candidates advance to final community voting. Any community member with 150 reputation may vote in the election.
17:47
ahh, you mean for voting.. for a moment I thought you meant the minimum number of voters to have valid election results
every user with >300rep could nominate himself

results are in!
congrats!
Winners are Ankur Banerjee, mindcorrosive, and RoflcoptrException.
Congrats folks!
Thanks to our pro-tem mods @MarkMayo and @VMAtm for their service in building the community. We will do our best to support and develop the site to make it the first stop for any travel-related question one might have!
5
and of course, thanks to @RoryAlsop for throwing his hat in the ring, you've proven your value to Travel-SE and other SE communities, and hopefully you'll continue helping us in making this site great
Definitely will, Martin. This site is a valuable resource I enjoy contributing to anyway. More than happy with the result - some good mods.
20:26
Congratulations to all elected. And thanks to our outgoing leaders. :)

21:27
I can only agree to what @MartinTapankov already said! Thanks to your votes and thanks to the pro-tem mods!
bayern won, you got elected => it's a great evening for you :)
Yes
But I think it's not going to be a great Wednesday morning :)
after monday and tuesday even the calendar says: WTF
Yes, but I got too much beer to celebrate the election (and the Bayern victory over Juventus)
have fun, you deserve it :)
22:10
congrats @AnkurBanerjee and @mindcorrosive and @roflcoptrException
22:49
@mindcorrosive and @RoflcoptrException - good to see you in there, congrats :) And of course @AnkurBanerjee - have fun keeping up the good work! I'm content here sipping a coffee in Quebec City (it's freeeeezing outside) and enjoying the site as a regular member again :)
Good to see you yesterday @Jonas, maybe third time lucky when you try to see @RoflcoptrException ;)
Oh and I made it to Schwartz's deli last night after queueing again, it was AMAZING.
@AndrewGrimm - their ability in general. Whether it's morally right is up for debate, but it's still their laws, and by choosing to go there, you choose to obey them (or choose to be 'criminal' I guess)
23:19
@HaLaBi @MarkMayo Thanks!
@mindcorrosive @RoflcoptrException Congratulations to you guys. And @vmatm @RoryAlsop, that was a certainly a close-fought race. :)
23:39
@AnkurBanerjee - I'm missing my mod powers already - cough subjective cough
23:50
@MarkMayo: I had a great time as well - and congrats on getting food at Schwartz'! Enjoy Quebec!
congrats @AnkurBanerjee, @RoflcoptrException, @mindcorrosive!
@Jonas Thanks!
@MarkMayo Looking at that question now.
And thanks to @MarkMayo and @VMAtm for their great work! I've already been able to invite @MarkMayo to an excellent hot chocolate; let me know when you're in the neighborhood, @VMAtm
@AnkurBanerjee: I might spend some time in Cambridge around May/June. Will you be in the area?
