yes ,the permission may just be showing the camera and looking for permission. it needn't be verbal as long as it's understood.

I actually got the money back, after a month of nagging the hotel, but I think it's crazy that such a big chain can do something like that. There's more reports on the internet of similar charges by them.
I'm a Booking 'genius' member, so I often get discount with them. I often book on hotel's pages as well, but sometimes Booking is cheaper or just easier because I just need to press a single button and I'm lazy.
By the way, September/October trip: Shanghai, Dubai, Singapore or Tokyo? Or other suggestions? We're a couple that love to explore (and photograph) different cultures. We would like to visit an eastern city this time. Any suggestions? :)
