Yeah, this is something in Canada too, it makes zero sense: forces.ca/en/page/applynow-100 To apply to the Forces, you must be a Canadian Citizen and then cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/cit/grant/cfa.asp This section is about granting citizenship to a person who is or was serving in or with the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

@GayotFow All good. Published the article I had been working on for a whole year.
09:10
@pnuts I understand the frustration here: travel.stackexchange.com/review/close/68361 , however I don't think that OP not sharing their answer is a valid close reason.
btw @JoErNanO do you already have a plan what to do next
@RoflcoptrException Holidays.
sounds like a good plan :)
I currently hate academic research. So I guess I'm more inclined towards a job in industry. Maybe r&d. However I think I'll apply everywhere and see what I can reap.
09:28
@RoflcoptrException I don't know man. I'm not used to having fixed working hours anymore. And, having gone into neuroscience from computer engineering I haven't really kept up to date with technology and techniques. I feel kinda obsolete honestly.
that's also my problem
All these companies are looking for real programmers
but I'm just a part-time programmer
and part-time researcher
Gotta sell your "ability to carry out independent research" skills.
sure
but that's difficult to sell if you don't know these people
@JoErNanO To answer your question from yesterday. We did not directly asked for new mods. We already agreed in the middle of last year that we will evaluate the situation early 2017. And now we all agreed that an additional moderator would help a lot.
@RoflcoptrException Oh OK. So is it one or two spots?
Afaik that's not decided yet. I guess we will vote for 2 new mods
09:57
Big team.

@JoErNanO I wasn't sure :)
@JoErNanO I think one is stepping down, so only 4 > 5. I have tried to press for 6.
@JoErNanO Pretty much the case for all recent graduates (ie 1st degree level). You'd be employed for your potential rather than immediate actual contribution.

@pnuts I know but I'm not at first degree level dammit! Anyway I knew this would have happened when I decided to do a PhD.
@pnuts Someone is stepping down? What did I miss?
"ie" should perhaps have been "eg". I meant don't worry too much, little may be expected of you in the short-term. Re 'stepping down' - as much my guess as anything more substantial.

Can I get the opinion of the regulars here on the answer by Paul the Sheik. He and I do not agree on visa for USA citizens for a short visit to the UK and the Schengen Zone.
2
A: Can I easily re-enter the UK as an American citizen if I travel to France for a few days?

Paul the SheikUnless you have other issues which are not readily apparent in your posting, there is no reason to expect any problems upon your return to the UK. Indeed a good number of tourists to the UK have exactly the same itinerary that you describe. Make sure you travel with the kind of evidence you will...

16:42
I think you do not necessarily disagree. He is just more cautious as you and recommends to take the required documents with you, even you wont need them
I say you can not get a visa as USA citizen for a short visit, that is what I have always been told here.
He mentions visa and does claim you can get one, should apply for one as I read it.
17:14
@Willeke He is somewhat of a loose cannon, and sometimes very wrong, but in this case you are wrong. I don't down vote if there's a way to avoid it, so you might not be able to tell.
@Willeke And of course an American can get a visitor visa, I recommend it all the time :)
@GayotFow Do you say that they do not laugh you out of the building as USA citizen to try to apply for an UK and Schengen visa for a 2 day visit?
@Willeke Don't be silly, of course a USA citizen can apply for a 2 day visit. Any time.
ASK A NEW QUESTION :) LOL, that's what we're here for
That is 100% different from what I was lead to believe
@Willeke And? You're wrong. Honestly, ask a new question :)
Not going to. Just going to delete some comments.
17:19
@Willeke That does not mean that Paul is always right... So be careful :)
He is almost always a bit or a lot wrong, just often hard to point out.
17:50
yo! @pnuts re this travel.stackexchange.com/questions/85744/… give it a rest. Honestly!
Relax!
I interpret that Q as now one that no longer fits practical, answerable questions based on actual problems that you face.
@pnuts I am of the opinion that you are giving too much weight to the "actual problems" standard.
2
This isn't a court of law after all.
@phoog Probably :) But then it does take more than one (usually) to actually Close a Q. (Had I a hammer I would not have used it.)
Perhaps the actual problem is "I don't know how the system works."
Very possible.

@phoog nice one
@pnuts honestly, you can give it a rest for a while. The site will somehow muddle through and survive.
@Willeke Does this help?
That does help. Thanks

@Willeke I hope my saying you were wrong does not hurt your feelings. I was with you when you had rep of 1, and now you are a heavy-weight. And with that comes the license to say you're wrong sometimes. Just like me. Just like everybody.
