We need another tiny countries event :( :)

Q: OK we're all nerds here, so really, how on earth should I use a Japanese toilet?

Andrew GrimmOK so for anyone that's travelled to Japan you know what I'm talking about. They're devices that are a textbook example of excessive featuritis. But I want to use something other than the flush knob before leaving Japan. What is a feature that has the following characteristics: Common to most...

Fantastic!!
@AndrewGrimm - I added a picture to your question, hope that's ok
@Roflcoptr - name a date and timezone and I'll set it up
could make it a week long event perhaps
yes what about the week after next wednesday?
then the carneval is over
and we would have time to answer
Travel-SE -- where no toilet in the world is left unshat.
I reiterate my suggestion for
08:01
what about long drops? we could ask about those next. they differ from squats for different ... splashing physics ;)
too much information, Mark..
While at it, we could ask the physics guys what is the optimal "payload" consistency, shape and velocity to minimize splash damage to one's gluteus maximus and pants
I'm just waiting, I fully expect someone to post a video for the japanese toilet one. (shudders)
ewwwww
I pray they include at least a warning what should we expect
we hope so
there's a video on the squatting toilet one taht I still haven't been able to bring myself to view
oh you mean with the Indian guy?
08:05
incidentally, when you say "pants", that has a different meaning in England vs NZ. In NZ it's the outer garment - the trousers. In the UK it seems to be the undergarments.
yup
I only watched like 10 seconds of it
yeah, exactly the same reason why I couldn't watch the.. substantial part
when i'm traveling and i have to shit I always avoid to sit down obviously, but how can I avoid that the splashing water hits my butt when I dump a massive load?
it's a common problem apparently
and just when you think the bar is too low, in comes @Roflcoptr ;)
he's just so.. natural, we love him for that :)
08:08
but that's really a problem
btw when I saw the kilt question yesterday, I checked the site that the OP has linked (some badass kilts!), and although they had an extensive FAQ, I was thinking all the time one thing: are you supposed to wear underwear or not?
pleaseohplease don't star that
historically, allegedly no, but these days yes
I think there was even a court case about it
@Roflcoptr - funnily enough, flying in the opposite direction to the earth spinning is actually slower.
I'm not sure if it matters, actually
oh it does, I'm crafting an answer now ;)
because the earth and its atmosphere are moving with the same velocity
08:11
I'm not sure about that
That's the reason I asked ;)
it's a nerdy question, though, fingers crossed for somebody important to tweet it (hi Jeff!)
right, done, that was fun
now I'm off to take the dog for a walk
back later to see what toilet chaos has ensued
bring rubber boots
gas mask optional

3 hours later…
11:33
juhuu it got hot
11:46
Good grief, how you always manage to make the hot ones. I was sure the Japanese one would go hot before the earth rotation one!
12:18
don't now how ;) just happened
but we haven't had a large success like the squatting question for a long time

1 hour later…
13:24
second place
13:38
what? i'm 4th?
well i'm still ahead of one diamond i suppose d-;
He meant the flying east question is second on hot questions list
... and equal 2nd for gold badges (=
ah well yes it is
yes
i was talking about the hot list ;)
14:12
so many lists... so much hotness...
im about to be sent to israel for work does anyone know if they can not stamp my passport
14
Q: Are there any repercussions from having an Israeli stamp in my passport?

DanI have heard people say that having a stamp from Israel in your passport can cause problems when trying to get into other countries. Is there any truth to this statement? If so, which countries does it create issues with?

yeah just found it, im flying in but if they do stamp my passport my work said they will buy me a new passport and get my visa transferred but that's going to be a real pain >_<
(visa) british work permit
14:24
The last time I checked the Azores were part of the European Union ;)
not all of the european union is in europe d-;
14:53
got it!

A: Where is this building in Amsterdam with a façade looking like a bookshelf?

hippietrailWell tineye.com got a few hits but nothing to solve the problem... But Google Image Search using your photo as the search parameter was more helpful. One of the many hits was to a blog called The Sticky Egg, specifically the post from November 13 2011 called "Feeling Bookish", which includes an...

15:35
the round-the-world question managed to get 450 views, and it's been only 7 hours since it was asked

4 hours later…
19:53
yes but it is not that hot anymore

1 hour later…
21:08
surprised how many votes the book facade got
21:20
@Stuart - you lucky sod!
you're probably after this question:
15
Q: Are there any repercussions from having an Israeli stamp in my passport?

DanI have heard people say that having a stamp from Israel in your passport can cause problems when trying to get into other countries. Is there any truth to this statement? If so, which countries does it create issues with?

@MarkMayo Could you look at my flag?
(Not an euphemism)
Oh okay you did
21:41
way ahead of you ;)
21:51
hmm, rotation q just got a downvote. It annoys me when people downvote without an explanation
yeah, there was a sneaky somebody like that on the kilt question as well, for some unknown reason

1 hour later…
22:58
i'd say they just don't think it's a good travel question
23:27
perhaps, but it'd be nice if they said why. it might be a good point, or it might not, or they may just not like @Roflcoptr ;)
I just posted a link on serverfault. Scarily, they have over 18000 unanswered questions (like 20%!).

Q: Attempting to DNS resolve / relay an IPv6 address for a host

Mark MayoI have a network switch doing IPv6 DNS relay to a Linux box (3.0.4-gentoo #7). The packets (DNS request) are arriving fine at the Linux box. Where I'm stuck now is how to resolve those, either by relaying again to a web DNS server (eg OpenDNS) or even resolving them locally and returning that b...

23:47
Yes I really fear it was my enemy :(
and even more scarily i have only 51 rep on serverfault ;)
but also stackoverflow is at around 13% unanswered questions
@MartinTapankov I posted the question about summer schools in Academia, but it is private beta so I think you can't view it?

Q: A online resource for summer schools in software engineering?

RoflcoptrI'm looking for an online resources that lists all summer schools of the actual year in a specific domain. Are there any sites? I just found one http://www.summerschoolsineurope.eu/ But this site seems to be a little bit outdated and doesn't have a lot of summer schools. In my case, I'm focuse...
