@Willeke all good - you originally said nasty, and I'd just watch for that :)

@MarkMayo did you see the thread in META about the wheelie bins? What is your opinion on what we should when that situation arises again? They are advocating that stuff should be on topic. Comment?

Q: How do I sort an observable collection?

MaciekI have a following class : [DataContract] public class Pair<TKey, TValue> : INotifyPropertyChanged, IDisposable { public Pair(TKey key, TValue value) { Key = key; Value = value; } #region Properties [DataMember] public TKey Key { get {...

My answer is better, but about 5 years too late
I have to write apps like that all the time in my 'day job'
please help drive up the views

@GayotFow Was about to restore your comment but the question itself is deleted now.

@GayotFow I was about to start writing when I noticed the refusal was as of 2014. The OP did not seem to care about it for two years and it was already told to him in comments that now is kinda late. I do consider putting in answers when possible to me, but it has not manifested in a while.
@JSLavertu you are the only close-voter pingable here, please see travel.stackexchange.com/questions/77843/… but this also goes for the other 4 who have voted to close but are not active in chat.

Why your parent room so silent, @Joe? Do something!

They're all travelling.

we need a question of the week!

@AnkurBanerjee: do you want to look at the newer additions to meta.travel.stackexchange.com/questions/3538 ?

@GayotFow I've upvoted your ObservableCollection answer. It really irritates me when people write (e.g.) sort methods when the library does it for them. I remember a new hire many years ago who wrote a VBA rounding function instead of using the one that is built in. Guess what -- his function was wrong! I love writing that kind of stuff for my own edification, but I almost never have to pull it out of my hat for production code. When I do, it's always the last resort.

6:12 PM
@GayotFow, I deleted that answer because it was not as good as two others, by a long way, by so much that editing it will not bring it up to the same level. Now the others have more votes, mine will not have any impact, even though it was the first to be posted. If it gets voted to undelete, I will want to have it deleted again, so do not bother.

7:06 PM
@phoog Very grateful for this. I agree with your philosophy also!
Where I grew up in the southern US, we call it 'going around your ass to get to your elbow'

7:19 PM
@GayotFow where did you grow up? My parents are both from the south.

There was this edit suggestion on a question from an anonymous user who claims they are OP and need to add details. That should be rejected, right? OP needs to find their own account and edit that way.

@Fiksdal Idealy they should. But if it seems to really be the OP, is an addition and not a re-write of the whole, I have let it slip through.
I have also seen as few where a clearly different user re-wrote an older question to 'ask his own'.

7:34 PM
Yeah, I mean, basically they can't prove that they are OP
Though they probably are
The weird thing about this one is that OP had like 330 rep. So it seems weird if they lost access to their account.

In that case I would not approve, unless the Q has enough upvotes to explain that rep.

@Willeke Oh, turns out it was actually clarification on an answer. And only like a third or fourth of the user's rep came from that answer. travel.stackexchange.com/users/50524/daxxcat

Some users just do not understand the system here, are signed out and do not realize and find they can not edit, just try to do it an other way.
I have written way too many 'please edit your question' lines, often to 'answers' where they did not sign in to the same account.

Haha, yeah. Anyway, a pretty clear reject in my view. I added a comment to the reject.

Good reasoning.

7:49 PM
Yeah, they often do that, because they don't have enough rep to comment with the new account.

I did not see it in the queue, I bet the case is solved by now.

@phoog born in nyc, puberty through undergrad school in NC, grad school in DC, nyc for a long time, post grad in Heidelberg and Cambridge.
Southern roots are great for catchy phrases

@GayotFow Phrases?
@Willeke Yup, it looks like OP found his own account and made the same edit :)

8:05 PM
I think that is the better option. Some users do not even try to log on any time, expecting us to clear up the mess they make.

It's a good thing reputation here is directly exchangeable for USD, so we get well paid for our work.

@GayotFow Really, where in NC? My mom is from Burlington. My parents met in college in VA, thence to DC and NY. Not an uncommon trajectory, apparently.
@Fiksdal such as "going around your ass to get to your elbow."
Or, apparently, "if it had been a snake it would have bitten you." I said this once to my best friend in high school, in NYC, who looked at me as though I had just grown a third eye.

8:36 PM
@phoog Haha, I'm not sure I understand what you guys are talking about :)

9:12 PM
@phoog In the general coastal plains Piedmont area. I haven't been there since the 90's.

@Fiksdal My NC grandfather was very fond of the phrase "bass ackward" if that makes any more sense. I don't think my Dutch grandfather would ever have said such a thing.

9:46 PM
@phoog LOL, I'm more confused now :)

1 hour later…

@Fiksdal Yes, stuff like hotter than a duck's ass in a pepper patch

Q: I am hoping to move to England

FrankiBI have a few questions so bare with me. I've found my soulmate in England. I'm waiting on my passport to get here. Then I am going. We are planning on getting married. From what I gather I can stay for 6 months. Then I have to return. How long do I need to stay back here i the USA before I re...

@GayotFow LOL

The question title suggests that it is off topic, but the body of the question actually asks about a visa-free visit.
That's why I decided to answer rather than vote to close.
Consider: "From what I gather I can stay for 6 months. Then I have to return. How long do I need to stay back here i the USA before I return."
I have voted to reopen; please join me.

@phoog hmmmm. Fair enough. Did you vote to reopen?
Or do you think it should be?

@Fiksdal I did and I do.
In truth there could be a duplicate already; I didn't look for one.

Oh ok.. Yeah, fair enough.
@phoog Maybe it would be a good idea to edit the wording of the question a little bit. Especially that title is gonna rev the engines of a lot of close-happy people. Maybe we can suggest it to OP or just do it. But I've voted to reopen. Anyway, going to sleep, see you.
