.......
But there is no biostar community
(within SE)

2:22 PM
@AlwaysConfused No, I but I don't think that's what the OP meant there. The community is the bioinformatics community, not SE.
Biostars and Seqanswers are the best available bioinformatics Q&As but they're crap compared to the SE system.

@terdon :O maybe (I did not used that 2 site s yet) but one user commented me on area51 that the Biostar site indeed was born in SE!!! later they got separated!!!!

@AlwaysConfused Yes, but that was years ago. And I'm not sure they actually shared users, only software (I think).
Yeah, they never shared users, biostars was never part of SE, it just used similar or the same software.

Maybe; I don't know. However I don't see any problem opening a new bioinformatics stackexchange.

Neither do I.
In fact, I was thinking of proposing one, didn't know one was in the works.

:D
It was passed to beta just yesterday
bye for now.
:)

3:21 PM
@terdon: Biostars was a stackexchange site until 2011 and migrated both the content and the users thereafter. If you really want all the details, you can go through the posts in 2010/2011 here: groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/biostar-central

@DevonRyan I know it was using the software but was it really part of the network, sharing notifications, rep etc? I was around in 2011 but I don't remember that at all.
@DevonRyan Yeah, looking through the messages, they were never part of SE, they just used the SE engine.
So they were never a stackexchange site.

3:39 PM
There was a proposal from SE site to migrate biostar to SE. https://www.biostars.org/p/13877/#13901
Most of the people were positive, but that never happened. I still wonder why. Does anyone know why?

@IakovDavydov That's a corporate decision anyway. Hard to know the details.

@IakovDavydov Basically, the owner of the site wanted to do his own thing

Good people of the Bioinformatics.SE chat room I have returned.
@terdon Hi! :)
Terdon Is an old AU friend.

6:37 PM
@terdon It wasn’t a corporate decision (if by “corporate” you mean Stack Exchange). István decided against it.

7:22 PM
I am predicting that we should have 1,000 users in a week. (Hopefully)
It's just a predication.
@kenorb What is your review on the site?
Site Status from Area51.SE:

Looks good. Good level of expertise. We've good changes to get into public phase.

Oh I thought the site was doomed at first.
300+ Users in only 2 days.

My question were criticized as too simple, so that's good sign.

7:37 PM
Well

I'm not expert in this area, so I've tried my best.
My expertise end up at downloading human genome files and having out of space error.
and saying wtf
My machine can't handle that.
Seen some contract roles for bioinformatics, but I didn't feel qualified.

You seem like someone who knows a lot.

I would know some about numpy, scifi libraries in Python, how to tackle that in some way, but I'm out of time in this life for this.
Probably more relevant libraries are for that.
or using ML/AI to parse the genome

7:57 PM
@kenorb I thought you went on a random walk.
@Tensibai Do you have anything to say about the site?

8:43 PM
@kenorb counter productive At best, there's nothing to train a model right now, plural of anectode is not proof
@HenryWHHackv2.0 Absolutely nothing as I didn't saw it :) I hang here to bring 'blind advice' to avoid pitfalls we had on devops if I can, not participating in the site itself helps keeping distance, but at the end of the day I can only highlight what I think is counterproductive patterns only, You (site users) are what will make the site
And my field of feedback is restricted to this chat room ( which is perfectly fine IMHO)

1 hour later…
9:58 PM
@HenryWHHackv2.0 o/
@KonradRudolph Nah, I just meant it was a decision taken by one of the two entities behind the sites as opposed to the communities deciding.
