Q: Are there any indications as to what happened in these Revenge of the Sith moments?

SamI love watching the Star Wars movies over and over again, and when I do, sometimes I notice little details that I didn't see before. I saw 3 things this time around, and I was wondering if there was any information on what was occuring. I'm sorry but I am not making 3 separate threads for each qu...

Q: First story having both the bad guys and the good guys avoiding using weapons in a space craft or space station that would puncture hull?

releseabeIt seems like this comes up a lot: despite the bad guys having murderous intent, there is at least a tacit agreement not to use projectile weapons or anything else that would make a hole in the ship's hull and cause disastrous decompression. I assume there have also been stories in which even the...

Q: Looking for a book that is scifi explorer mixed with Arthurian legend

KimberlyI read this book back in middle-school so probably it's juvenile fiction. I vaguely recall that the cover was blue, maybe with a woman looking up towards the stars. Three explorers crash onto a planet. There is a woman, her father and what seems to be her intended? While they are trying to fix th...

Q: What was the first work to portray the guardian of the Golden Fleece as a many-headed hydra?

BuzzAt the climax of the mythical tale of Jason and the Argonauts' voyage to Colchis, Jason (with the help of the local priestess-princess Medea) steals the Golden Fleece from a sacred grove, where it hung from a tree and was guarded by the Colchian dragon. He put the dragon to sleep and took the fl...

Q: Sci fi movie/TV show and pin/bolt are inserted into the back of peoples necks?

Christopher DavisonAll I know about this sci fi tv/movie where people inserted a pin/bolt into the back of people’s neck & disappears and somehow either changed or gained info. But it’s different in the sense of Matrix where you sit in a seat & the insert is part of chair of where you’re sitting it doesn’t disappea...

Satyajit SenIn the climax of the movie Significant Other (2022), it is revealed that Ruth had discovered Harry's corpse wrapped up in a cocoon-like structure when she had ventured into the cave. Q: What are all the times Gandalf was either Late or Early?

AncientSwordRageGandalf, who is ever-quotable is well known for saying: A wizard is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to. I often cite this to re-assure my friends who're being harsh on themselves for being late or behind on some goal. But one friend retorted, that "That's a lie. ...

I guess I have to respect the community decision on the Star Wars technology question, but I really don't understand how it's answerable. You need to identify a real-world technology, presumably one that's important enough or broadly-specified enough to not be substitutable (in our world), and then prove that technology doesn't exist in the Star Wars universe and prove that there is no replacement technology for it either.
The first part is opinion or inspired guess-work, depending how you look at it; the second and third parts both involve proving a negative.

What question is that?

Q: In the Star Wars Universe are there mysterious gaps in their technology?

releseabeI am only vaguely familiar with the huge amount of information now available via movies, cartoons and novels. It is clear that despite the events occurring very long ago, the technology available to the various races is vastly advanced beyond what we have and this includes FTL travel, very sophis...

Hmmm I don't think it's a good question but it is arguably answerable. I could argue though that I don't think they've really clarified exactly what sort of examples they're looking for as answers and under the current "definition" (when reading the comments) it does seem quite subjective

I originally wasn't paying much attention to it, until it became a thing, and then I thought a bit more about it, and decided that I should have voted to close for clarity.

I don't know if it is close worthy but it's not great

Agreed.

Q: can terminators detect each other?

jimCan terminators sense and detect each other from, say, electromagnetic emissions they presumably radiate? In Terminator 2, Schwarzenegger (T800) and Patrick (T1000) are reasonably close to each other in the shopping mall scene but do not seem to register each other, while in the attack on the Sky...

@Marvin oh come on, since it's a manhua there's like 90% chance that it's SF&F even with no fantastic elements in the description. close it as low quality if you want but don't use such exuses.

5:48 PM
Uh...isn't assuming SF&F content from a one-sentence description of an everyday situation a pretty lame "excuse"?
Like, dafuq you're trying to imply?

@b_jonas I think it's only about 50/50. But it does not matter: we only take things that have a definitive indication of being fantasy.
Also, if these mundane characteristics are what was most memorable to the querent, that substantially reduces the likelihood that it is any kind of speculative fiction.

6:03 PM
@Adamant And that indication can be pretty loose; a clear statement from the OP that "I'm sure this was SF" or "It was set in an alternate universe" is usually accepted, but the OP must make at least some effort to assert that it's on-topic.

@Adamant yeah, that's probably consistent with policy. scifi.stackexchange.com/q/117078/4918 was likely left open until the answer only because Valorum answered so quickly.
