Q: a cartoon about football and saving the earth

BatsI'm pretty sure it aired at MBC 3. It’s a cartoon about playing football to save the planet not galactic football or team galaxy. I remember one blond boy with poofy hair I think he wore something blue when playing. When they would play it would look like they are in a round sphere and maybe the ...

Q: Disney live-action film involving a boy who invents a bicycle that can do super-jumps

FuzzyBootsI was reminded of this when reading 80s movie about a genius boy who invents a force field to deflect football balls. This was a Disney TV movie I watched, somewhere between the mid 80s to the late 90s in the United States, possibly on cable television or broadcast. The protagonist was a bright, ...

Q: Story about a extra-terrestial jewel/stone that heals anyone who touches it, lady has it implanted to stop her aging

AvagutI am trying to identify a story from novel that I once read, this was a paperback book. I read this story in the 1990s in a library that had slighter older books so its definitely pre-1990s on the publishing date. The story is about a rock/jewel/stone (it looks like a diamond, I think) that besto...

Q: Short story about a collector alien that relentlessly chases man stuck on an island

Gathua PhoneI am trying to identify the book or the writer that wrote a story that is an anthology of sci-fi short stories from the 1950s, 1960s or 1970s. The anthology was as a hardback. An army man is dropped via helicopter on an uninhabited island, for training I believe. Upon exploration, he is discovers...

Q: Short story about a giant ship that thoughtlessly destroys planets as it travels, is visited by a victim

S_S_S_SI think I came across this ten or fifteen years ago, I cannot remember much clearly so some of these details may be mistaken. The story is told from the perspective of a crew member, on the bridge I think. The ship is described as utterly enormous, sleek, and silver colored; I think it has been c...

TalkingCodeIn the last weeks I watched two of the "The Fly" movies with a buddy. It was "The Fly" from 1986 and "Return of the Fly" from 1959. "The Fly" from 1958 and "The Fly II" we also know but haven't seen them for a long time. We both seem to remember scenes that have not been in the movies we have see...

Kannon HicksTrying to find movie where guy is staying in a house or blimp above a junkyard and he’s an inventor and someone comes along and they’re trying to escape but there's a robot or something in the junkyard stopping them from leaving. Q: After Episode VI, was it then common knowledge that Luke is Vader's son?

CharlesMoving forward from Return of the Jedi, is there any evidence that - aside from Leia and Ben Kenobi - people knew that Luke and Vader were father and son? hows it going?
also hi @b_jonas

Going pretty well, you?
Haven't had much time for image descriptions

I've tried to do a few. It's exhausting.

It is

The rate I'm doing them is probably less than the rate that new images are being added, so it feels a bit sisyphean.

6:20 PM
I don't think I've said this, but I decided to try to prioritize the story ID ones. Those are the most likely to be actually useful with the description, because it gets indexed and can come up in a search.

That makes sense. I've just been doing them as I find images missing descriptions in the process of fixing other things. So I have basically no organized approach at all. :)

(And, to be frank, they're often much easier to describe than many other images. It's just a cursory description of the cover.)

There are 2 tabs I have open right now that I should fix, but both have answers including a number of graphic novel pages, and it's just too daunting.

@DavidW Yeah. A worthwhile effort, but with... 9606 posts (not images) that need descriptions as of Sunday, I came to the conclusion that I need to prioritize.
@DavidW oh, with those I just ping the ferret ;P

*glances to the side*
Hmm. I hadn't considered that as something I could do...
@AncientSwordRage Feel like doing this one: scifi.stackexchange.com/a/141137/101407 ?

@DavidW as tempting as it is, I got work to do

Lol. How can you say work's more important than this?! :D

@DavidW also that really should have the text transcribed as well
Oh I see Valorum has done that already

Woo! Thank you!

Excellent; between its answers that question had a misspelled "Millennium," a misspelled "Tatooine" and an old wikia.com link. 3 different clean-up items.

Huh. This answer quotes the CDC website to give a U.S. life expectancy of 78.8 years. But 4 years later when I follow the link (to test that it works properly after I change it to https) I find the website now says 78.7 years. That's not progress...

AlexandrangNow, I'm totally aware that Sirius Black is Harry's godfather. And I also know that Harry finally got permission from Black to go to Hogsmeade. Seems pretty straightforward, right? @DavidW I think the life expectancy is a pretty void value. Average life span without relying everyday on medical care sounds like a much better stat, but it's not one that's easily available

I don't think I have enough depth of knowledge to really respond to that, but given the (reasonable) assumption that a given country doesn't change the way they compute the number, I feel that it shouldn't go down. (Especially since the effect of this year's pandemic won't have been captured in that number yet.)

@DavidW I think the problem is that the high cost of health care has made it difficult for low-income families to receive necessary care. There are countless cases every day where people have to choose between paying for food, or paying for health care.

@Donald.McLean Not just necessary care, my impression is that there is a fair fraction of the U.S. population that isn't getting adequate preventative care. Primary care being rather more cost-effective than emergency care. But not nearly as profitable...

By "care" I meant any kind, preventative or otherwise.
In any sane, rational society, preventative care would be classed as "necessary".

I think I'm not disagreeing so much with you as an attitude that seems to not consider preventative medicine as "necessary." I just found out the other day that the annual flu vaccine isn't free for most Americans, and it boggles the mind.
Okay, we completely agree. :)

9:36 PM
Having grown in France, where "Social Security" is part of everyone's taxes and most of healthcare is seemingly "free", I'm always baffled at the thought that a lot of US citizens are completely okay with putting aside money for the most basic everyday medical care, and outright refusing the thought of "paying for everyone's healthcare" aand thinking the French model (or any generalized healtchare) is the weird one.
