Q: Vocational training to be a thief?

DaveInCazI have a very vague memory of this book... a boy is allowed to choose any sort of training, and decides to train to be a thief. At some point he either orders or perhaps steals a screwdriver. Wish I could remember more! Any ideas?

Q: Why did Harry Potter trust Snape?

Sidharth A SIn Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, when a dying Snape gives his memories to Harry, why does he trust Snape, of all people, and go to the Pensieve to see them? There are two possible scenarios (in which Snape is still on the dark side) where everything can go wrong: 1: It was all a ruse. M...

Q: Has the term "bosonics" ever been explicitly used in a story or film?

uhohThe BBC article Cern plans even larger hadron collider for physics search by BBC Science correspondent Pallab Ghosh is interesting for several reasons. One was a curious error that has since been partially fixed What are “large hadrons”? Are there also “small hadrons”?, but the other is at the en...

@Marvin First answer I've gotten to post in a while. Nothing like un excuse to revisit the comics of my youth....

3:09 AM
Although, in this case, my youth is probably the only thing that makes the comic good, or memorable. It falls under the statement, "The golden age of comics is eleven."

Q: Why didn't Captain Pike say his background with religion after asking the others in New Eden [STD:S2E2]?

hawkeyeIn Star Trek Discovery episode New Eden STD:S2E2 we see Captain Pike ask Joann Owosekun and Michael Burnham what their background with religion is. Joann says she grew up in a Luddite community which had no religious beliefs. Michael Burnham says she is familiar with Earth's religious texts. ...

I'm reminded of my personal physician's office from 20 yearas ago. They were initially named Polaris Internal Medicine & Pediatrics (not the best initials). They moved to a different office on the same road, as a more independent organization. Sadly, their new name was Polaris Parkway Internal Medicine & Pediatrics - which doesn't really deal with the issue much.

Q: Name of tv show on the supernatural???.,

Spookypantsrina79Ok I’m REALLY fusterated trying to find the name of this show! It was in the 80’s I saw as a kid. It was about ghosts. I thought the host was the guy from ‘That’s Incredible’ and I can think now it was filmed in a studio like a tv special. I can’t recall if it was only on ghosts but the show had ...

A: Who are the top two smartest men in the DC Animated Universe?

Legion600The two people smarter than Mr. Terrific in the DCAU would be Braniac 5 and Lex Luthor. In the comics and the DCAU the highest level of intelligence is a 12th Level intellect. Q: Why do air combats according to Hollywood never get past the WWII?

Meatball PrincessWhenever there is a portrayal of some futuristic or sci-fi aerial combat, you will see most likely either smaller "fighters" shooting "guns" at each other or at larger "bombers", which is 100% guaranteed to be bristling with "gimbaled gun turrets". Anyone with so much as a dabbling familiarity wi...

Q: Short Story about a Malevolent Plane/Dimension

Zoheb SattaI've been looking for this short story for the past couple of days. I definitely remember reading sometime in the last 4 years. It involves a dimension or plane of existence trying to breach into ours and it breaks down our normal physics or mathematics or something similar.

So, there may be more information you can dredge up. Anything from this guide may help, but two things I'd like to know are: How short? Less than a page? More than 10? Novella- length? Also, do you remember if the author was a relatively famous one or not? — Spencer 40 mins ago
Huh what? This question does seem to have enough information.
The hole in that mountain is shown again in a later story.

Q: What happens if the state delegations tie on a presidential vote?

StormblessedIf no candidate gets a majority of electoral votes in the United States, states each get one vote for who becomes president. @Named that's helpful :)

Maybe the color was a bit bluer
Not sure the hurdles were tilted like that
It's weird how fantasy.SE redirects here but Arqade.SE doesn't go to gaming.SE

what?
it should redirect, I think
weird, I was sure it redirected but indeed that's a 404

you're welcome :)
I asked because you did proivide a site on your last videogame-ID, IIRc

The video game ID guide didn't really help that much, as it didn't really have a story, per se
But still helpful to get resources

6:50 PM
@Marvin nice, I've gained a new reference to look up next time I read a story-ID about collecting gems

@Jenayah Arqade.com redirects

@Mithrandir ah, I was trying arqade.se.com

@Mithrandir was it separate once?

No. A bunch of the older sites used to have their own domain, until Stack Exchange 2.0 appeared.
So, for instance, askdifferent.com; seasonedadvice.com; mi.yodeya.com; there are probably more but I can't think of others off the top of my head.
Of those, only the original trilogy got to keep their own domains: Stack Overflow, Server Fault, and Super User. The other sites with their own domains are special in some way - such as Ask Ubuntu, which is a sorta official Ubuntu site; MathOverflow, which has a long complicated history and isn't fully owned by SE; and [stackapps.se], which isn't a regular site - it's for creating scripts and bots etc on SE.

Anyone know if there's a query to see what percent of questions on a tag have an answer/an accepted answer?

@Stormblessed There should be some info on the page for the tag somewhere, I think.
What tag are you looking at?

Doesn't redirect, oddly
@Mithrandir Story-ID
Wow

17.8% of Story-IDs are unanswered
That's not so good

On the other hand, 82.2% are answered.
(Although not necessarily solved.)

Q: Disney movie where a professor discovers a new element called "Flubber"

If you feel that it's inappropriate, raise a mod flag. Advertising a site on its own isn't an issue, but advertising an inappropriate site (or having an inappropriate ad) could get it removed.

Flag one of their posts and clearly explain the issue.

Q: When and what cause Voldemort to look the way he does, vs how we've seen him as a teen?

TheMagicalMuffinManAs the title says, When and What made Voldemort look the way he does (pale, snake-like etc) as opposed to how we've seen him in his earlier years as Tom Riddle? Is it just a side effect of his unnatural resurrection? Before he died attacking Harry as a baby did he look like a normal guy?
