Q: If there were an infinite number of universes, wouldn't there exist one where Dormammu is actually benevolent?

RincewindI was rewatching Doctor Strange and this was an idea that kind of presented itself to me. @M&TVFeeds Best title ever

Ah! Angela from the Inheritance Cycle kills at least one named male character (and a bunch of canon fodder) in single combat.
Though the named character was fighting her with magic, she did stab him to death.
(She also poisoned a bunch of people once…she’s a bit pragmatic).
Arya (no relation to the aSoIaF character. probably.) kills a bunch of unnamed characters in single combat (not sure if you care that it was many-on-one). She kills one significant character that I recall in dual combat.
In Ahsoka, the title character kills a male Inquisitor in a duel.
That’s very straight example, since Star Wars is quite fond of single combat.
I haven’t read A Song of Ice and Fire, but the given the generally patriarchal nature of the world it takes place in, most soldiers are male, and so I suspect both Brienne and Arya have fought (and likely killed) men in single combat.
Mmm, Battle Royale has a few (Mitsuko, Takoko), if “dirty, brutal fighting” counts as “single combat.” Arthurian romance this is not.
I’d suspect Percy Jackson and related series have some examples, since there are lots of female demigods who kill monsters of various genders with some regularity.
Ah, of course. How could I forget Brandon Sanderson?
Vin from the Mistborn series kills at least one major male character in single combat. ;) Actually, two, I think. She also kills a bunch of Inquisitors (about half of which are male, I believe) by the end of the series.
Tolkien may be old-fashioned, but Eowyn did kill the Witch-King of Angmar in (almost) single combat.

@Babelfish it may be a stupid question, but at least they spelled 'canon' right
2

@Edlothiad generally true but some questions are more subjective than others. his wasn't subjective at all. it's not really an issue of what any of us thinks is right. it's simply a question with an incorrect answer. i'll grant that the op may not have asked the question they intended to ask, and it was @Gallifreyan who added the story-identification tag. otherwise it might have been off topic to begin with.

What would have made it off-topic?

i'm not sure but if he really just wanted to know what the script says is that on-topic?

@Edlothiad It would have been a solve this code question.

3:02 PM
There was some doubt whether it was an actual script to begin with, but the OP clarified that their friend said that it was a script from a fantasy book. (cc @Edlothiad @zabeus)

@zabeus It's asking about a work of science fiction, so yes it's on topic
It's the same as asking "Here is some code I found, what language is this?"
"Your code is in Python, here's some info about Python."

Q: Where on the Kardashev scale would the First ones from the space odyssey series be placed?

primus supremusI was just wondering where people thought the first ones depicted as being the creators of the monoliths featured in such masterpieces as 2001 , 2010 ,2061 and 3001 by Arthur C Clarke would be placed on the Kardashev scale. Personally I think its type 4 as they have been implied to be able to con...

@Babelfish I really hate the Kardashev scale
it's like, we could cover the Earth in solar panels if we wanted to, but that'd be stupid. Similarly, I'm guessing when we have the ability to create a Dyson sphere, there'll be no point

@DaaaahWhoosh what would we be using for fuel at that point?

@zabeus we wouldn't be using the fuel, we would be the fuel

5:51 PM
Soylent Fuel is people?

yeah, something like that. Or, more seriously, I don't get the idea that more technological societies need to consume more power
I'd like to think that we'd just get more efficient eventually
like, all the power sources we use now are really inefficient. If we can improve them, we can take the same amount of energy and do more with it
plus, if we condense all humans into a single Ultra-mind, then we can save energy carpooling

6:41 PM
@DaaaahWhoosh I get it because power efficiency is a means to an end, never a goal in and of itself. You probably won't ever be worrying about it until after you've gone too far and been consuming too much for a while.
Though we also need the assumption that more efficient power sources are generally going to be harder to invent and require more resources/infrastructure to support/operate than less efficient ones. I think that's likely to be true but it's not exactly a law of nature.

7:12 PM
@Ixrec yeah, I'm just thinking how if you ask someone from 300 years ago how to get more power, they wouldn't say "harvest the power of the sun", they'd say "hitch up more horses". You ask someone 100 years ago how to map the human genome, they'd say "get more biologists, and more paper". It seems like there's a possible future for humanity that doesn't even include humans, so I just think the Kardashev scale is making too many assumptions

true, we could all ascend to a higher plane of existence causing our bodies to be reduced to mere puddles of Tang

and all of those qualifications are only because of one guy
