10:29 AM
Doorknob has unfrozen this room.

10:41 AM
@Doorknob Thank you!

RGS
Hey Mr. Xcoder
Thanks for adding me here. Yesterday I read the Jelly tutorial available on the README of jelly's github
I think the next thing to do would be practice a bit, right?
Are the exercises on the jelly hypertraining GH a good place to start?
(also, is the tio.run the best site to run Jelly programs?)

Hey
Yes, TIO is the best service to run Jelly online. tio.run/#jelly
As a matter of fact, Dennis is the creator of both Jelly and TIO.
@RGS Right. The list of challenges on Github are meant to get you started with Jelly

RGS
@Mr.Xcoder Cool. It did look like so, as I thought it would be unlikely that two different "Dennis" created TIO and Jelly :P

Not all of them are easy, and certainly some of them require a bit more work in order to get the minimum byte count. But don't worry, we can discuss problems here as you encounter them

RGS
@Mr.Xcoder thanks :D

10:56 AM
No problem

RGS
The only thing that is ticking me off is that yesterday I was playing around just with the programs +* and *+ to get a feel for how the tacit thing works
and I was trying to use the rules found here:
and still I couldn't understand the output I was getting
(give me a sec and I'll be more explicit)
NO
holy.... * isn't the multiplication function, is it?
that explains why the programs weren't behaving as expected XD

Lol :)
Just FYI I've added you to the list of Jelly Students.

RGS
@Mr.Xcoder nice :)
I'm @RGS on GH as well
so you can add that if you want

The best way to search "commands" in jelly is to use CMD/CTRL+F on the Atoms page
@RGS Will do, thanks

RGS
or maybe I'm RojerGS
not sure
yup, RojerGS

10 hours later…
RGS
8:52 PM
@Mr.Xcoder solving the first 4 challenges is very easy, I just have to use the correct arithmetic operator;
+ for addition,
÷ for division,
× for multiplication
AND _ for subtraction
is there any standard way of saving my progress on the exercises?
or any way you'd suggest I keep track of what I've done?
A more interesting one is the n-th root of x
I'm pretty sure I want to use * to get the exponent and İ to get the inverse of n, I just have to find the correct way of doing x*(1/n)

RGS
9:13 PM
hell yeah, *İ} for the n-th root of k, assuming n is the left arg and k is the right one :')

1 hour later…
RGS
10:25 PM
ẋR for the n*m array
do most monads automatically vectorise over lists?

10:40 PM
@RGS I'd just use a notepad or something, or use a Gist

RGS
well though of

Gist has the advantage of being shareable

RGS
the first exercises are quite easy, just a matter of using ctrl-f to look for the right atom :P

@RGS Yes, unless explicitly noted

RGS
k thanks

10:41 PM
Sure, but they're good for recap

RGS
True, I get it
but it is not like I am going to memorize all of them now, so yeah
can I ask you something about the ¿ quick=
*?

Yeah sure, you just remember them as you use them over time. But even then, often you still have to CTRL+F to be able to copy-paste:)
@RGS Sure

RGS
@Mr.Xcoder yeah :P
so the GH page says that the syntax for the "while" quick is <body><condition>¿
but how does the parser know what is the body and what is the condition?
for example, I'm trying to write a program that takes a number, and keeps adding 1 until we get to a prime, so I wrote this:
+1Ẓ¬¿
But it doesn't really work xD

Well... This is slightly more complicated then it may seem

RGS
nah, it seems complicated already :D

10:46 PM
This is where links and chains come in
Let me write an example for you
In the meantime, you can read about them a bit in the tutorial I guess

RGS
I will re-read them, then

This is going to take a while, I'm on mobile

RGS
oh, we can talk later!

Nah, it's fine

RGS
look, I really don't want to spend your time like that
it is getting late where I am at, so I'll be heading to bed soon
so maybe you don't really need to worry about this now..?

10:52 PM
Ok then

RGS
I hope you understand!

We tomorrow
@RGS Of course lol, it's 1AM here too :))

RGS
@Mr.Xcoder xD are you in Central Europe, then?
wait, aren't you greek?

You can ping me at any time, I'll get back to you as soon as I have time (the next week is going to be super busy :C)
@RGS Yeah
@RGS Nope

RGS
romanian
at least, that is what your profile says :P
@Mr.Xcoder thanks :) and don't worry!

10:55 PM
Wait
Where are you from then mhm
Oops
That looks like genial, which in my (natural) language means brilliant. +1 for that — RGS yesterday

RGS
:P
yes, in my (natural) language, "genial" is a word
so, what is my natural language?

:P
Good night

RGS
so you don't want to guess my language?
I'm assuming google translate could even tell you

O_o I thought we were playing a cheap subtlety game
The thing is that "genial" is a word with the exact same meaning in Romanian too

RGS
ah wow
I am not romanian
BUT I am aware our two languages have similarities
because they both come from latin

11:04 PM
I will have to guess that's spanish

RGS
close :)
portuguese

Ah nice

RGS
have a good night
we shall talk later :)

Gn, so shall we

RGS
@Mr.Xcoder I made it, I was able to implement the "get next prime" with the `while loop`:
`+1µẒ¬µ¿`
