Q: Does anything stop identical twins from traveling on each other's passports?

JonathanReezAssuming two identical twins want to swap their passports (e.g. to travel using the other guy's visa or to make visa runs easier) - would there be anything to stop them? Some visas do record the applicant's fingerprints but would you really be banned from entering if just the fingerprints mismat...

if just the fingerprints mismatch Isn't that a criteria satisfying travelling on forged documents or impersonating somebody else ? Doesn't that imply arrest and deportation ?
@DumbCoder even if it does, most countries don't check fingerprints for arrivals. AFAIK only the US does consistently.
UK does and probably Schengen also, Eurostar yes(non EU) but at airports don't remember exactly.
@DumbCoder Schengen checks are not consistent and none are applied for visa-free nationals. UK airports don't check anything.
When did you last enter UK by air ? Non EU and non UK nationals are checked for their fingerprints. Schengen checks are not consistent and none are applied for visa-free nationals I did say non EU in my comment add some more to it.

@DumbCoder I'm not an EU citizen (although I'm visa-free for UK) and I was not checked in 2016.
visa-free Then amend your query to say who don't require a visa.
@DumbCoder I'm interested in both cases: visa nationals and visa-free nationals.
@JonathanReez I was in Rwanda and Senegal last year. Both countries fingerprinted me (and as far as I could tell everyone) on entry and exit.

So basically you are asking if it is possible to commit immigration fraud by posing as someone who looks the same. Are we allowed to provide advice on committing a crime on Travel SE?
@Tom I don't have a twin so this question is purely hypothetical

There is nothing wrong in knowing about a crime, unless you really go about doing it. Don't you know about shoplifting, does that make you a shoplifter?
@Tom It's worth noting that some people ask questions like this, on forums like this, because they're working on a fiction piece and are looking for details. Asking about a crime is not the same as committing the crime.
@Tom That was a hypothetical. Travel.se is for questions about travel, regardless of the asker's motivation.
@Tom VTC if you think its off topic.
@T.J.L. Many questions of this type get closed, not sure why this is still open though.
@Tom: a thorough understanding of immigration law helps travelers, and thinking about how people try to break it, helps understand how the laws work and what they were designed to do.

@DumbCoder - because it was posted by a moderator who can override close votes. And who can (will) soon move this discussion to chat and off the question.
@Tom You can open a meta thread about this question if you are worried about the comments being deleted.

@Tom I would never override close votes against my own post. This is silly. Please cast your vote if you think it's useful.
@Tom as for usefulness - I've discussed this very question with every pair of twins I've met and heard various stories about 'shared' travel. There aren't many identical twins (only 0.5% are), but it's useful for them.

Easier to walk away from Travel SE for a while.
