10:05 PM
Do you think is it too much 2.500 € for a 28-hour course about SSAS? (travel and subsistence included)

@Lamak found it: oeis.org/A010844

@ypercubeᵀᴹ sounds about right

Interesting that there's an exact formula: rounddown( sqrt(e) * 2^n * n! ) - 1
The -1 is because we can't have an index with 0 columns.

@ypercubeᵀᴹ What exactly is that the formula for?

all possible indexes for a table with n columns
without using INCLUDE or WHERE

10:18 PM
index key can have up to 32 columns in sql server 2016

@ypercubeᵀᴹ Wouldn't that be powerset, with a different formula?

@Forrest the formula includes ASC/DESC options

@ypercubeᵀᴹ that number grows fast

and this is for only ASC indexes: oeis.org/A000522 Or: rounddown( sqrt(e) * n! ) - 1

@ypercubeᵀᴹ Ahh. And simply doubling the number of "columns" doesn't work either, since ColA DESC, ColA ASC doesn't work in an index.
Cool!

10:27 PM
@Forrest exactly

10:44 PM
(and adding this one as well, just not to forget it: oeis.org/A010842 )

10:58 PM
@MaxVernon SELECT TOP ((SELECT 100)) PERCENT * FROM ...

@Dodi82 If you're unexpectedly getting comparison between string and char, be aware that strings are implicitly convertible to char[] (char arrays) so if you have a misplaced index operator somewhere, like string1 == string2[0] this could be the source of that problem.

@ypercubeᵀᴹ Feeds deletes a chat message when the flag gets validated by multiple 10k users.

@PaulWhite this is fun SELECT TOP ((SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT Value FROM (SELECT 100 Value) V)) PERCENT * FROM ...

That's what they mean by legacy that'll bite you in the ass down the road. I could see saying "what the hell is this supposed to do" and reverting it to SELECT TOP 100 PERCENT .
It's sure fun though!
@PaulWhite that was interesting.

Good.

Is G. Lin. mod on SO?

@McNets stackoverflow.com/users/1144035/gordon-linoff? No. Lack of a diamond is a bit of a give away. Why do you ask?
There's a complete list on every site under Users -> Moderators e.g. stackoverflow.com/users?tab=moderators

@PaulWhite when did this happen?
I'm missing all the fun

11:26 PM
Nothing important, he's always posting comments in my answers, but he's never answering my replies
@ypercubeᵀᴹ yes.

@McNets he can't answer replies, that would mean that he can't post a super fast half-baked answer to another question

Well if you will hang out on Stack Overflow ;)

@McNets do you include a ping (@Gordon) in your replies?

@ypercubeᵀᴹ of course

what surprises me is that every time that I click on the "one new answer" and is from him, that answer already has an upvote

A: How to insert two rows when a special condition is met using SQL?

McNetsUse a CASE statement and one single SELECT. INSERT INTO NEW_TABLE SELECT CASE WHEN CONDITION1 THEN COL1 WHEN CONDITION2 THEN COL2 ELSE COL3 END FROM SOURCE_TABLE;

@Lamak Now you know the reason for my question about serial up/downvoting

I don't know how he does it, I think he has a 24 hour online stalker

^^^

@billinkc yeah, it's seriously weird. I mean, there's absolutely not time to read the answer, it just appeared and already has 1 upvote

HE'LL SAVE EVERYONE ONE OF US!
Great, now I look like a weirdo spouting random gibberish

@billinkc you do look like a villain

@McNets he is right on that comment, by the way

@ypercubeᵀᴹ I know. I would like to insert TWO rows for the same entry.

@ypercubeᵀᴹ There are several Trash rooms. Please use the one with the blue dba.se logo rather than the SO logo. Ta.

And I'll delete the answer.

11:35 PM
@PaulWhite I tried. I failed. :(
@McNets you can edit it and improve. Is the question for Postgres?

@PaulWhite what happens if we use another trash room?

@Lamak Nothing bad, it's neater for reasons I am not going to EAGL if the target room is hosted on chat.SE rather than chat.SO.

@ypercubeᵀᴹ I think so, psql

Besides, we have our own superior Trash room.

11:37 PM
even our Trash is superior
I like it

Great, now we'll have a TrashCube

All trash must be sorted, including the superior one.

@billinkc maybe a Trashinkc?

should we rename it to Superior Trash?
Or TempDB ?
Nah, too sql-servery

@ypercubeᵀᴹ that would be awesome

11:39 PM
Awesome Trash?

Let's just leave it as Trash.

Black Hole ?

But Superior Trash has such a good ring to it

Trashole

All good suggestions. I liked Black Hole particularly. But let's keep it as Trash, it's kinda network standard (for certain values of 'standard').
Like SQL Standard I guess.

11:41 PM
Standards are awfully low here though

I suppose deleted would have been another databasey option.

Dropped, duh

Hm that too.

@billinkc Dropped Comments would be nice

';DROP COMMENTS;--

11:43 PM
ha ha ha

yeah, I like this one

The problem is if we give it a cool name people will want to go there. And it'll draw attention to a room that's really supposed to stay out of the consciousness.

So name it Kamal?

@PaulWhite also, the spaces between the "ha"s makes me imagine a british guy laughing smugly

The KFC is on fire today :)

11:45 PM
OH GOD, MY CHIKENS!

@billinkc I'm slow today

(I blame it on fasting for the sky wizard)

are postgres machines actives on dbfiddle? dbfiddle.uk/…

@McNets @JackDouglas would be the person to ask.

@PaulWhite ok. thanks.

Q: We will no longer be hosting Blog Overflow

Grace NoteWe are discontinuing Blog Overflow as a service on this network. Not only does this mean that no new blogs will be created, but it will also mean that all extant blogs are becoming functionally shut down. The reasoning is three-fold in basic: The vast majority of blogs aren't really active. Th...

It's official.
