Re @RobertColumbia, Dorothy: we need to separate the question into two separate questions: one question asking how citizens of Muslim-majority countries like Malaysia they get treated at the US border by CBP/ICE i.e. do they get detained, and do they get refused entry? For that part of the question, it is irrelevant to talk about US-citizen Muslims or how they are treated or perceived inside the US. Also, be aware that currently, treatment of people on a (B-1) tourist visa is very different...
...to work visas, or Green Cards. That question's details imply they'd be traveling on a tourist visa.
So a better title for that subquestion would be "How are tourists (B-1 visa) from a Muslim-majority country currently being treated when entering the US via airport?"

@Omegacron - Mr Richerby didn't post opinions, only facts. (1) "... the asker being Muslim .." - well, technically it was the asker's friend, not the asker who is Muslim. (2) "... nearly half the people in the US voting for a presidential candidate ..." - technically, nearly half of those who voted, and not half of everyone in USA; but again, not an opinion, but a verifiable fact. (3) "... wants to ban Muslims from entering the country ..." not an
opinion, but a fact. Mr Trump said this many times during his election campaign. (4) "... require registration of Muslims ..." not an opinion - my memory is sketchy here but didn't Mr Trump say he wanted to keep "some kind of database of Muslims"? Please correct me
if I'm wrong. As far as this site being about travel - this is very much about travel. I am currently scared to travel in the United States, for these very reasons, and not because of my political opinions about its current leader. Lastly, are you (Omegacron) a moderator here? Is it your place to tell Mr Richerby where he may go to post his opinions? Please tell me why you feel entitled to boss him around like this.
