@JohnRennie i need ur help :-(
@Anusha Hi :-)
hi
i spent 1 whole day on visual studio but i can't see the output
Do you mean you spent a day working on a project in Visual Studio?
it showed 3 errors related to directories and i was working on fixing those errors through youtube videos
OK, and something happened to crash it?
06:39
the problem pane shows no problem but when i run the program
Ah, you mean Visual Studio Code.
yeah!
the program shows running and done but no output
If you click on "Terminal" what des it show?
sending...
just a second
In the terminal type:
dir
and paste the output here. You can copy and paste from the terminal - you don't need to take a picture.

PS C:\Users\Anusha Mahajan\Desktop\first> dir

PS C:\Users\Anusha Mahajan\Desktop\first\.vscode>
OK. The file m.exe is your program. You can run it by just typing m
Run it now and see if it produces output.
umm where to type m?
In the terminal. Just type m then press enter like you did for the previous commands you typed.

Hmm, try:
.\m
06:56
PS C:\Users\Anusha Mahajan\Desktop\first\.vscode> .\m
congrats 6422293
PS C:\Users\Anusha Mahajan\Desktop\first\.vscode>
OK, your program ran and produced the output :
congrats 6422293
The reason is you wrote:
printf("congrats %d\n", name);
And %d prints a number not a string.
ohk
but why is the output showcasing in terminal instead of output pane
For some reason VSCode is not showing the output from your program, but you can run it manually like we've just done to see the output.
ohk will try now
I'm not sure why it's doing this, though i think I have heard other students say they have the same problem.
Incidentally you've got your .c files in the wrong place.
The way that it's supposed to work is that you put all the .c and .cpp files in:
C:\Users\Anusha Mahajan\Desktop\first
The subdirectory:
C:\Users\Anusha Mahajan\Desktop\first\.vscode
07:02
i made the change and this is the output
[Running] cd "c:\Users\Anusha Mahajan\Desktop\first\.vscode\" && gcc m.c -o m && "c:\Users\Anusha Mahajan\Desktop\first\.vscode\"m
m.c: In function 'main':
m.c:4:22: warning: initialization makes integer from pointer without a cast [-Wint-conversion]
     const char name ="anusha";
                      ^~~~~~~~

[Done] exited with code=3221225477 in 1.079 seconds
just holds config files used by VSCode.
should i uninstall and try again?
No, there's no need to reinstall.
Fir now just carry on and everything will work.
But next time you create a new file create it in the first directory instead of in .vscode.
I can talk you through this if you want, or if you want to use TeamViewer we can both view your screen and I can show you how to do it.
Anyhow, the compile error is because you missed out the [] brackets.
It should be:
const char name[] ="anusha";
Because name has to be an array of char.
C doesn't have strings. In C a string is actually just an array of char.
@JohnRennie would be a great help
If you go to:
There's a button "Download for free"
07:07
i am downloading
Run the setup and click the Accept button without changing anything.
it has some id and password
Yes. The way this works is you need to tell me the id and password, then I can connect to your PC so we can both see your screen.
Can you post the ID first ...
Id: 676520296
Ah, for some reason when I try to connect to your PC I get an error
That's odd, Team Viewer normally works fine.
07:14
I am supposed to give some permission maybe....
Try connecting to me to see if that works. My id is 228 049 579. Put that in as the "Remote control" id and click Connect
Same error
:-( I think we're out of luck. I have seen this problem with other people in India. I would guess it's something to do with the way the internet connection works in India.
Are you connecting through your phone?
Nope laptop
At the top there is enter partner Id. What's that?
I mean the Internet connection. Does that go via your phone? Or have you gor broadband connected to your house?
07:18
Broadband
Hmm, OK, oh well :-(
I can talk you through it if you want.
Pls I need this 😭
I have piles of due assignments
I tried connecting again and it shows either your partner isn't connected or your partner's TeamViewer isn't running pls tell your partner to check his internet connection or to start team viewer
@Anusha How are you running the program?
Give me a moment and I'll set up VSCode to be the same as your setup
@JohnRennie IG a VPN can work?
07:24
@Wolgwang i wrote code on vsc then the run button
@Anusha Run button ? Where? Debug and run?
nope the triangle shaped run on top right
@Anusha Can you post the screenshot? I haven't seen it >_<
@Anusha OK, this is roughly how your setup looks at the moment:
@JohnRennie yes
07:29
Close you m.c file by clicking the X:
So it should now look like:
there are some more tabs m.exe setting.json and m.c so i should cross all?
Yes, close all the tabs
yeah same screen now
Type the command:
move m.* ..
That will move your program files out of the .vscode directory and into the first directory.
ohk
07:34
Done?
yes
Type:
cd ..
then:
dir m.*
And you should get something like:
Done?
no this is not coming
Show me
wait

and show me the output

isnt it cd \.vscode ?
Have you tried typing the commands I gave?
yeah but tat also gave the same result
It should have looked like this
What does it look like on your PC?

PS C:\Users\Anusha Mahajan\Desktop\first\.vscode> cd ..
PS C:\Users\Anusha Mahajan\Desktop\first> cd first\.vscode

PS C:\Users\Anusha Mahajan\Desktop\first>
OK. I'm not sure where your program file m.c has gone, but it was only a short file so we can recreate it.
In VSCode click File then New file
yeah : -)
Copy and paste this:
#include <stdio.h>

int main(int argc, char* argv[])
{
    printf("Hello world\n");
    return 0;
}
(this is just an example to check everything is working)
Then click File then Save as
ohk i am naming m.c
07:53
Wait!
Make sure you are saving it into the first directory.
Done?
my path desktop>first>.vscode
No, not into the .vscode directory
ohk
Just desktop>first
Done?
done
07:58
Now in the terminal does the prompt show etc\first\.vscode> or just etc\first> ?
till first
OK, so if you now type:
dir
You should get:
PS C:\Users\renniej\Desktop\first> dir m.*

    Directory: C:\Users\renniej\Desktop\first

Mode                 LastWriteTime         Length Name

PS C:\Users\renniej\Desktop\first>
PS C:\Users\Anusha Mahajan\Desktop\first> dir

-a----        15-12-2021     13:29          40764 n.exe

PS C:\Users\Anusha Mahajan\Desktop\first>
Cool :-)
i was getting confused i changed m to n
08:01
OK, you called it n.c not m.c but that doesn't matter.
