@CamilStaps Why does everybody (you, Wikipedia) seem to be on first name basis with Thomas Aquinas? The SEP switches around. What's the reasoning here?
user61389
@Gugg sorry, what do you mean? Why I don't use Thomas van Aquino?
since when does a review need more than one approval...?
*edit, not review
user61389
@commando it has been that way as long as I'm around, but that's only half a year or so.. When a diamond reviews it, it's approved immediately though
>.> I've been around a year and a half too... evidently I have memory issue
*a memory issue
evidently my english is broken today too...
user61389
@commando lol, ask a mod or Meta Stack Overflow ;)
17:13
ah well, it's no big deal
I need to get back to participating more on this site... it's just that more and more I feel incompetent in answering any of the questions which is ironic because since joining I've only taken more and more philosophy classes

@commando no, that's a good thing. Sokrates said he knew nothing, right? :)
ah actually that's a bit of an unfortunate misquotation
what he actually said was:
"If I am any wiser than other men it is because where they do not know but think they know, I know that I do not know."
but I understand your meaning :)
it's just I get a little irritated when I read an introduction to philosophy book and it misquotes Socrates like that, since he's exactly the sort of person (at least in Platonic dialogues) who would instantly refute that statement by saying "but then you know that you know nothing, so you know something!"
@CamilStaps Actually I meant: Why do people use Thomas instead of Aquinas or Aquino.
user61389
@Gugg oh, like that, I don't know, it's weird indeed
I thought you'd only use the first name only if it is preceded by Sir or Saint.
user61389
@commando I know that ;)
17:36
ah, good then
user61389
@Gugg dunno, I only use Thomas because everyone does :)
17:49
in my experience people, including my professors, have mostly called him "Aquinas"
There's an exception: the apostles. But that's another Thomas.
And he died in Chennai. Pretty mobile for those days, I'd say.
@commando Ask nicely in chat?
18:20
ermm yes :3
should I have said something else?
(@Gugg)
The question was actually already nicely phrased. :)
By the way, this way of asking for survey-participants, is likely to result in huge biases. Very wrong.
well yes, I did notice that afterward, but a secondary interpretation of what I said could be "since you asked nicely here, do it again but in chat"
I do sort of regret that particular phrasing and I hope the OP doesn't take offense, but it's too late to edit
maybe the project is on selection-biases resulting from asking certain online groups to take your surveys?
That would be nice, but how likely is that? :)
A "research project at university". It's starting to bug me.
19:13
are you getting skeptical?
I haven't even checked what the survey is yet
Neither have I. :)
user61389
19:48
It's a very basic poll to see how many people believe in creation/evolution. That's all there is, really :)
pretty sure there are numerous studies the OP could just look up online that have those statistics...
