pokes room with Stick of Inquisition +1
@Sconibulus The nymph steals your Stick of Inquisition +1
I hate nymphs in NetHack
Sees life in contact but unaware of NetHack references
... um what?
you zap your Wand of Fire
18:00
you kill your housecat
<*dies*>
the Gods become angry at you (or something like that)
you mean you hear the rumble of distant thunder
the cockatrice hits you
I've only ever encountered a cockatrice once (in non-wizard mode)
oh really?
I had one kill a great run once
I was on like dL7 on the way back up
18:06
My furthest was probably the level just after Gnome Town
I had just been blinded and polymorphed into a dragon, and it got summoned
ahh, I've won once, gotten the amulet three times I think
I've never ascended
I can make it to either Gnome Town or Sokoban a little over half the time, depending on the direction I go first
Although actually, it's harder in the new update, Elbereth is harder to write successfully, and I haven't played a lot since that changed
do you mean 3.6.0?
18:09
I think 3.6.0 existed or just came out when I started playing
I did most of the play on 3.4.3
do you play locally, or via a server like alt.org?
both, I think my win was on nethack.alt.org
yeah, Sconi, 1 ascension as Barbarian
I usually play Wizard or Valkyrie
I usually do the full random, and cry when I get Tourist
18:16
When I started to play NetHack, I kept on exiting the dungeon through the staircase. Then when I "understood" the game, I would quit the game if I cannot find the staircase (at that time I did not know s)
Rubio defending: P
too many people in here to NOT kick a game off ;)
haha
1: French fish that cannot make hissing sounds (6)
(@KritixiLithos @Sconibulus @BeastlyGerbil @n_palum @Neon612 @gar

3: It's not PIZZA
18:30
3: yep
4: Headless me
4: It's not PALUM i guess
I'll pass on 1, that's not doing anything for me
1: POISON?
Yes
French fish (POISSON) cannot make hissing sounds (POISSON - S) => POISON
Yeah, got it - that's just silly :)
Rubio defending: P E
18:33
Yeah that was 4
1: Hmmm....
2: &J
2: It's not PEANUT BUTTER
2 Yup
4: Land before Time character cooked without pirate's interjection was adventurer's doom (9)
Are you suuuure it's 9 :P
It has been a very long time since I saw Land before Time (ok "regularly saw" would be a better word, I just saw one of the latest movies recently)
18:37
pretty sure it works out
2: One of us, One of us, One of us
5: Suffers from precession
4: I think you're going for PETRIF(-r)IED, but the LBT character is Petrie I think
9: Palindrome Candy
@Rubio yep (does it have an E?)
18:39
9: It's not PEP ?
10: Jude, e.g. (biblically)
Well technically PEP isn't a candy.

@GentlePurpleRain I don't think so.
11: It's not PENETRATE perhaps
@GentlePurpleRain I don't think so...

Makes sense. I was thinking of PIERCE (which is commonly misspelled as PEIRCE)
if that was a clue, It's not PERTURB, but make them bold and give a number please
contact 6 (tentative)
11: Up, you get to watch. Down, you can try but it's not remotely as effective
6: It's not PERSISTENT, but there's a lot of words that might work here
18:46
6: nope
6: It's also not PERCEPTIVE
VTC 6: too broad
lol
6: also nope
11: It's not a PERISCOPE
18:47
@GentlePurpleRain ahh, but which one :)
If I contact and the defender passes, am I allowed only a single guess? Or can I list multiple words that might work?
3: Gross bread
@Rubio yes
Single guess gpr
You only get one guess
which is why VTCable clues often get passed after contacting, since the likelihood of success is diminished
hence: I'll PASS on 6, go for it ;)
18:50
6: PEERS
Did anyone contact it?
(other than gpr)
I did.
(no)
I did not contact but my guess was PEDANTS
6: I was hunting for PERSPICACIOUS, but it wasn't a good clue
What the heck is that?
18:50
That was my other guess.
Insightful, shrewd
it's a $20 word for PERCEPTIVE basically :)
lol

Rubio defending: P E R
11's dead: pet
2 dies - PEDANT

penecillium ?!
@Sconibulus I misread that clue as "Gross beard" when I first read it
lol, so many pins
8: Beauty parlour offering
@Rubio Yes, it was first discovered in mouldy bread.
8: It's not a PERM
18:58
8: ✔
It's spelled penicillium, and that's a rather indirect clue for it ;)
@Rubio famously discovered by accidentally dropping a piece of old sandwich in a dish

11: not going anywhere
3: Orange fruit
18:58
11: It's not PERMANENT
