Further on my idea of giving big-list questions a home, especially if we're talking community wiki, perhaps one technique to bring order to the canonical answer is ensuring that items are ordered chronologically (newest at the top). I feel like this brings it closer to what the spirit of Stack Exchange is aiming for.

@Nic I think it would be confusing to keep them on meta
I wonder if we could treat them the way Ask Ubuntu treats software recommendation questions
taking advantage of the work done by the Software Recommendation SE people
that is, we ask them to include specific criteria
ok, you need a text editor, but what things do you need your text editor to do? What kind of text editor do you want?
@AlekFröhlich 's question fits that - it asks for a certain type of cookbook
I don't think it should be titled Recommendation list:... though
one of the answers is just a list with no information... that should be discouraged
(another one is about Salt Fat Acid Heat which is not a "pragmatic vegetarian cookbook" by any standard)
@Nic It seems like it would be hard to make a canonical answer about this thing - what exactly should be in it? How do we decide?
my experience is that even when it's clear what sort of things should be in a canonical answer, engaging the community to update and maintain an answer collaboratively does not happen
@Nic people deciding together what sort of big list to create is a cool idea. That would be really different to anything I've participated in on SE

@Zanna but maybe it could work here... maybe we could have an occasional list-updating event or something like that
Perhaps i need to be more positive
in trying to stay covid negative I think I'm getting more negative about everything else

I guess what I've been mentally wandering towards @AlekFröhlich is the idea that your cookbook recommendation question needn't be a big list type question as it's a rather specific request
rewording it a bit would make it not a "big list" question
but, you've worded it that way because you wanted a particular kind of response, I guess?
like, ideally what kind of answer(s) would you like to see there?

Congrats @Zanna and @Nic ! I found it interesting that Joe got the second largest number of first votes, but then the people who liked Zanna seemed to like Nic more than Joe, so things switched around in the second round of the STV system.
A more extreme version occurred here: Taco was #2 in Round 1 but eliminated in Round 3!
thank you @NikeDattani !
now I feel like eating tacos...
@Zanna Me too! Vegan tacos !!

@NikeDattani Thank you :)
I had another interesting idea! I know that many of our questions here are "frequently asked questions" (FAQ) that fit into themes, and I was also thinking about the new Collections feature of Stack Exchange. Then I was thinking it might be nice and interesting to have an index of FAQ for different themes like "I'm new to vegan cooking -- what should I learn first?" We could use posts in Meta to construct these indexes, and then we could rotate those indexes as posts.

@Nic cool!

Q: Curated Collections of Questions (as posts on Meta)

NicIdea: We can create posts on this meta site to highlight curated collections of interesting questions from our main site, then periodically rotate those collections through the featured box on the main site. What kind of collections could we have? Here's a few ideas to get us started: What cloth...

Q: What is the nutritional profile of A&W plant-based nuggets?

NicI know that nutrition and fast food are usually opposite concepts, but I'm still curious... A&W Canada recently added plant-based chicken nuggets to their menu (again!). I'm curious about their nutritional profile, especially as compared to regular chicken nuggets, but I'm having a hard time find...
