Hey @Zanna
How are you? I hope you are doing good.
thanks! I'm doing great
today I'm just wrestling with Ask Ubuntu's EOL policy
very confusing
You're welcome :)
@Zanna why so?
how about you? I was hoping you'd come back to Ask Ubuntu
I am kinda ok..
My results will be announced tomorrow.. and I'm kinda worried :(
@RandomPerson in recent times Canonical have added some extended support options and started using the term End of Life in inconsistent ways
Thomas has asked for some clarification. Canonical say they are working on official definitions
that might help
@RandomPerson why are you worried? What might happen?
05:52
@Zanna I am trying my best to do stuff in Ask Ubuntu.. but since I am no longer an Ubuntu user (as my PC stopped working few months ago).. I don't understand how I can contribute stuff in Ask Ubuntu..
@Zanna oh..
I do recall reading some question in meta about it. but didn't dig in deep..
@Zanna ok..
@Zanna I might fail few subjects :(
I don't recommend digging - there's no gold
@Zanna haha..
@RandomPerson aww that sucks. how are you accessing the internet these days? will you be able to get a new computer some time?
@Zanna I have a Windows laptop and couple of smartphones in home.
@RandomPerson and then what might happen?
@RandomPerson oh! that's not so bad then :)
05:56
@Zanna I really don't know. This might be the first time I might be failing in final exams.. so I don't know what's the procedure after failing..
@Zanna :)
@RandomPerson why do you think you might be failing this time? What went wrong?
@RandomPerson As far as what I read online.. they might remove me from the institute. But I hope that doesn't happen.
@Zanna The whole online classes drama was not my cup of tea. I didn't really focus much the whole academic year..
and then they started opening institutes in February..
and told us to prepare for the practical exams and complete projects, lab observation notes, lab records...
and then all of a sudden release the datesheet of final exam.. just 12 days (approx.) prior to the exams' commencement
studying the whole portion within 2 weeks was way tough..
@Zanna I just hope everything becomes alright..
06:15
@RandomPerson I hope so too
I don't know how they do it here, but in the UK exam grades are peer-referenced, so if everyone does badly, the grade boundaries come down
oh.. things are a bit different here.
So your entire schooling was done in UK and then you shifted to Chennai?
06:31
@RandomPerson yes
ok.. There are board of educations here in India. The most popular ones are CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) and CISCE(Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations)... and there are boards of education in individual states (which are generally referred as SSC)..
and there are two main exams(for 10th class and 12th class) held by these boards of education...
if you are free, go through this sub reddit: reddit.com/r/CBSE
hmm
How's the COVID situation in Chennai?
06:50
well seems pretty calm really
recent seroprevalence survey found 41% of people in Chennai have been infected at some point
I am hoping for a successful vaccine rollout
yeah..
I'm kinda annoyed with the Covaxin's authorisation for emergency use as the phase 3 trial data is not out yet :(
07:10
@RandomPerson yeah it's totally ridiculous
seems designed to create vaccine hesitancy where none existed before
@Zanna yeah!
and the annoying thing is we can't choose the vaccine which we want. So people will rather prefer staying not vaccinated.
:\
yeah it's a terrible situation
in the UK which vaccine is distributed? Is it the Oxford-AstraZeneca one?
at the moment the Pfizer vaccine and Oxford-AstraZeneca one are both being given. Many doses of the Moderna vaccine have been ordered but not delivered yet

10 hours later…
16:59
@RandomPerson Hope to hear good news about your results tomorrow. If not, I hope you won't need to worry and there will be a good way forward
