Q: How much money do I need to donate to charity to justify not being vegan?

MassimoI care about animal welfare and climate change but do not want to go vegan. Suppose I eat a typical American diet. How much money would I need to donate each year to the most effective charities to reduce animal suffering and climate change by an amount equivalent to going vegan for one year? Wha...

Q: Are most pizza doughs from chain restaurants vegan?

skippy619Assuming you can find a delivery place that offers vegan cheese substitutes or dairy-free flatbreads, is it safe to assume that the restaurant's dough recipe is vegan? What ingredients should you ask about?

@TheFarmer I do not like this question at all

@TheFarmer What a dick.
It's hard to not answer that in some fashion but it wouldn't be productive.
Do close votes have to all be the same reason to create a critical mass of votes? :) I'm not sure I think it's off topic so much as opinion based but I'll pick off-topic if it'll move things along.

screw it, on the off-chance of getting through I've done a quick answer. whatever.

Hello all! Newbie here. Thanks @DavidS for the pizza response.
And yeah ... that charity question was sumthin alright
@skippy619 hi, you're welcome :)
Yeah, I'm sure it'll be closed later on but I couldn't resist. At least I didn't go "no, you don't care because you're not willing to put your money where your mouth is", but they sort of are but in the worst way
It's a bit like saying, for the environment I'm using as much oil as I can, so as to use it all up quicker.
Weird logic

Yeah, I thought you handled it quite well. Definitely smelled troll-ish to me.
Yeah I think so too.
Making your own dough huh? I've only bothered trying to do that once and I didn't really kneed the dough much so it ended up bready, but still okay. I keep meaning to try again.
My friend is vegan and GF, she makes decent pizza, just doesn't have that elastic quality you get from gluten.
I never thought I would become one of those homemade pizza people ... but I started getting into bread baking this year and decided to give it a try
Yeah definitely no elastic quality in it. But the frozen crusts we find in stores here are just pitiful
King Arthur never lets me down -- kingarthurflour.com/recipes/gluten-free-pizza-crust-recipe -- I just leave out the buttermilk
ah, xanthan gum, I bet that helps
that pizza looks delicious, imagining the cheese and pepperoni is vegan of course :D
Did you edit your question? I feel like I didn't really answer your question. You said assuming dairy-free flatbread, and I didn't address that at all.
brb, time for a cup of tea
No worries. I really just wanted to make sure I wasn't being paranoid for questioning dough ingredients. I feel like with pizza, the vegan focus is always on cheese and toppings.
And yep, xantham gum makes the GF breads and pizzas possible.

I tweaked my answer a little.
More for general benefit, nothing interesting
Yeah Follow Your Heart stuff is good generally, I've not tried that mozzarella though.
I think Sheeze is nice cooked, Daiya is nice on it's own and Violife have lots of flavoured cheeses that go well on a burger :)
all this thinking about cheese I had to go eat some

I still have a couple hours to go until lunchtime :/
work is catering lunch for a meeting today and they picked the WORST place
a sandwich shop with no veggie sandwiches and only one meatless salad option
great
hate that crud
lunch is unpaid they shouldn't be able to schedule a meeting in it
maybe it works differently there
in terms of being paid for lunch
obviously companies do meetings over lunch here too
Yeah ... fortunately this is a rarity for my team. I usually take a full hour for lunch on my own.
I'll for sure use it as an excuse to leave early today though :)
oh yeah.

Can confirm, the office lunch was awful. Vegan option = a salad of just spinach and red onions.
