10:52
I am suffering from severe lack of motivation to do my work today O.O
any tips?
11:13
none other than what I'm doing
I'll start by switching to the laptop I use for doing planning applications haha that might be a good step towards beginning work on said planning application
Which isn't helpful, I got a latte and put my earphones in and I'm tinkering with something that's interesting but not a priority.
Yes that might be.
(planning applications?)
@DavidS could be worse :)
@DavidS drawing submitted to council requesting permission to make proposed changes to a building
er
I thought you were a teacher
I teach one-to-one, self-employed
I draw planning applications for my dad. He's a buildings inspector, but he used to be a self-employed surveyor and still does planning apps on the side
I've been doing this for more than 10 years haha
they don't come in very often
11:35
So you keep a Windows laptop to do the planning junk on? :)
I assume that's the reason for a separate laptop for planning applications
no, it runs Xubuntu 16.04 presently
the reason I use it is that my everyday laptop is a baby - screen too small for drawing work
but this laptop with the bigger screen is not as comfortable for general use - it's one dad got for free from his office when they got new kit. Its battery is mostly destroyed and it has keyboard issues. The keyboard is also too big for me as I'm so used to compact keyboards!
I use QCAD - great open source CAD program, better than AutoCAD which is what we used to use on Windows. They charge £30 for the proper version but it's well worth paying that, especially considering the outrageous cost of AutoCAD
I'm sad that my vaio is a bit fubar, it was great until recently when the built-in display would start to blink off and on increasingly as the battery drained, I replaced the battery thinking the output was dipping off as the charge was lower but it hasn't sorted it.
awww
Dad has an old Vaio too
11:42
I assume on power is gets just that slightly higher and more consistent power it needs to be ok, as it's fine when pluggedi n
this battery has actually recovered a bit under my treatment
Vaio still exist as a company apart from Sony, so I could get another one very much like the one I have, but I've only had mine for about 3/4 years
I know how to get batteries to behave well. It would die off in about 15 minutes when I first got it, but now it lasts a couple of hours, and takes charge a lot faster too
ooh.
@DavidS hmm ought to last a bit longer...
11:45
do you charge them then disconnect and run them down and charge again?
battery still lasts a long time, 5 hours or more if im just typing and not netflixing
no, I charge in small bites and never let them get to 100%
oh, yes, I do what you said haha
I thought you meant run all the way down
Weirdly in the last week I've realised mine stops at 93% charged or something
that's not weird
its not?
that's 7% dead battery
11:46
It's a new battery
oh hmm. maybe needs some sort of calibration then
but it's also a a knock-off I think, despite trying hard to find a legit sony battery, they just dont exist
but old batteries do that
let me find some info...
i guess it could have been sitting in a warehouse for a few years
I'm gonna put the original battery back in anyway I think, at least I know it's legit, and since that didn't fix the issue anyway, may as well remove it
I couldn't find the thing I read before. I wish it was easier to find out how to care for batteries
I discovered how to do it by accident with my first smartphone
and I'm still going on trial and error/"intuition" of what works
I have the cynical idea that vendors don't want you to know
11:52
Yeah I dunno what to do for the best
apaprently now there's no memory effect and yadda yadda so i just
plug it in whenever
and with laptop I try not to leave it plugged in and running on 100% indefinitely
and i'll run it down to nearly empty
then plug it in
I think my vaio's problem isn't battery but display adapter
battery life still seems ok, external display connected is fine.
I think you're right, about not wanting us to know.
just use it and not worry about taking care of it, and then when you need a new battery we'll sell you one, they're only 100 pounds
haha yeah
well I've had a look at the job and pasted the OS map section into place so I'm on the path to productivity haha

1 hour later…
13:21
That's good, I've had lunch so now I'm extra sleepy.
lunch perks me up haha
during lunch sure, after lunch, unperk.
I think as long as it's a light lunch it's ok
14:12
I just realised you're the owner of this room.
For the record, Tesco Cannon Park, does not have Beyond Burgers in it.
I need a good burger recipe, now I can process food, I should buy them less often and make them out of whole ingredients like black beans
14:51
I have a number of burger recipes
You can post a recipe request question if you can describe what sort of burger you'd like :)
@DavidS It happened automatically because I was the most active user of the room at some early stage!
but rooms can have multiple owners
Ask Ubuntu General Room has 12 owners
all mods
Wouldn't that be voted to close as subjective and google it? :)
no, you can say you want it to be high protein or incorporate mushrooms or have a chewy texture or be suitable for BBQ or whatever - as long as it's specific in some way it will be ok
people don't even close ridiculously broad questions like "suggest some vegan snacks plz thx" :/
ha
"nuts"
haha
sainsburys onion rings.
so broad
15:02
hahaha
apple and peanut butter
skittles
hahahaha
corn cakes with salsa (yum)
we could come up with one for each letter of the alphabet
yes.
15:05
work avoidance activity XD
somewhat.
Did I tell you I massaged kale for the first time last week? :D
haha you might have
was I talking about massaged onions with cumin?
oh, er, not sure..
anyway short version was I had a bunch of things to use and it added up perfectly, lemon kale, quinoa, roasted sweet potato, tomato, toasted pumpkin seeds, avocado ...
massaging onions works??
I don't know... what did it achieve with the kale?
kinda, wilts it
i used the lemon juice to massage it wth, dunno if that's important or just dressing
15:15
probably assists... massaging onion is meant to be done with oil
according to this recipe anyway...
mental
:)
lol
16:17
see ya.
16:32
\o
16:50
yeah this battery stops charging at 90, because 10% of it is totally destroyed

1 hour later…
18:01
@Zanna So, what was the documentary about?
oh it's actually 15 episodes
18:32
I could post a Q&A about it... during hat season
