Q: Let's rename the [raw] tag to [rawfood-diet]

NicThe raw tag currently describes two distinct sets of questions. I think the questions should be tagged differently, as described below. Raw Food Diets - I suggest creating a new rawfood-diet tag to use for this group. These questions are about diet patterns that totally or mostly exclude cooked/...

I think a mod can do that (without bumping the posts)?
@TheGardener it doesn't make much sense to me to split those tags. I don't think they will be used consistently if split
@Nic that's a good thing!
I was mostly AFK for a few days

One thing I’ve been wondering for a while — do we have any use for community wiki answers? I’ve seen it frowned upon on other sites but it seems like there are a few questions here on Vegetarianism that were closed but could have been community wiki instead. You know, “list of vegan athletes” type questions.

I don't see what benefit there is to making such questions CW
Do you mean, there could be one answer and everyone could just edit to extend it?

Yeah. I’m asking because you’re more experienced on SE and I’m wondering if you’ve seen it put to good use elsewhere or if it’s a feature that really isn’t relevant to us

Q: Do any vegan foods provide vitamin D₃?

NicAre there any non-animal whole foods that provide vitamin D₃? I know that vitamin D₃ can be obtained through supplements and vitamin D₂ is found in some mushrooms. Is sunlight the only other way for vegans to get vitamin D₃?

Q: Which foods benefit from soaking before cooking?

NicI’ve heard that it’s important for health to soak beans when cooking them from dry. Some people also soak rice or chickpeas. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of somebody soaking lentils. Why do we soak some legumes and not others? Which foods benefit from soaking, and what are the reasons some rela...

@Nic Grace Note wrote a good article about CW
It's a feature that was introduced before it was possible for no-rep users to suggest edits
so, it was intended to make posts easier to edit where that would be of benefit
it was later realised that allowing editing was of great benefit and that creating a structure to moderate edits by inexperienced/unregistered users would work better than making some posts more editable
it would not really be necessary to make that question CW to format it with a single answer... that would just require an edit to the question giving instructions... generally needing to give instructions on how to answer in a question is a sign that the question is not a good fit for the SE format
but shrug flexibility is good I guess
in favour of CW in this case:
- it discourages excess answers, making it more likely people would follow the instruction to edit the one answer
against CW:
- it makes it harder to moderate edits
Whether the CW status is to be credited or not though, it hasn't sprouted numerous answers; it has kept its intended format

Q: Why did Gardein remove most of their products from Canada?

NicGardein, a company that produces meat alternatives, suddenly pulled most of their product line from Canadian shelves in late 2016. The total product selection went from over 20 options to just 4. Now a few options are coming back, but why were they removed in the first place? This is especially p...

I feel like this question about vegan pizza cheese would work very well in the style of this other recommendation question from Gaming.SE. In that format the Q/A would function much like AlternativeTo.net.

Q: Are there any dairy farms that don't kill cows or calves?

NicAlthough cow's milk and goat's milk is often thought of as not causing harm, it is becoming more well known that both young calves and old cows are typically slaughtered on dairy farms because they are no longer useful for milk production. Are there any farms (past or present) that operate as a ...

Some of the answers are already in that style, it's mostly just consistent formatting that sets them apart.
