@xpqz I think APL followed FORTRAN (and other IBM programming languages) for that decision,
Which is no worse than backslash escape in my opinion.

Yeah, perhaps the decision predates the custom of backslashing.
I'm sure I'd discovered (and, evidently, forgotten) this before.
