RGS
10:02 AM
CMP: would it be interesting to have a (couple of?) webinars on smth like solving fluid dynamics equations with APL?

I guess so. With your Mandelbrot, you basically launched a new line of Dyalog Webinars dealing with practical problems rather than theoretical stuff.

@RGS I would love to see these
maybe ascii fluid dynamics

10:20 AM
Character art is the same as proper graphics if zoomed out far enough.

any art is proper graphics if you zoom out hard enough

10:40 AM
@RGS definitely!

2:55 PM
@RGS Done.

@RGS I'd like to see a couple of webinars on graph processing in APL. It always ends up feeling scalar to me.

Then we need Aaron Hsu in.

Works for me :)

not sure if there's a way to avoid the scalar nature of a lot of algorithms (and also the fact most rely heavily on hashmaps/dicts)

Then you haven't seen Hsu in action.

3:06 PM
I've watched a lot of his talks and co-dfns stuff

The graph stuff in dfns is really interesting, I think. Clever ways to derive transitive closures etc. I always wonder if you can do A* (say) in APL without it looking like Python.

there are some fun matrix product graph things in APL but imo anyway the language isn't that suited to a lot of stuff

3:38 PM
Is it just me or does try-GNU-APL not show a session?

no, doesn't seem to work for me either

Aha, it requires http without s.

lol, that's fun, when you enter ⊃ for some reason it goes backwards?!?

What?

oh, never mind, it was from doing ctrl shift x
it works in SE chat too!

3:45 PM
Toggles LtR/RtL input, I presume.

yeah

And some symbols flip depending on writing direction, like parens and other enclosing chars.
Also /

twitter.com/realhashbreaker/status/1394585138613325825?s=20 yay, I can go to this talk and the BAA one! :D
although it's about J apparently
