wouldn't this work? ⌊/+∘1~⊢

@ngn Yes. Nice. And if we had monadic > increment then ⌊/>~⊢.

ngn
@Adám huh, is there a plan to burn a squiggle for 1+ ? :) I don't expect this to happen, but who knows.

@ngn No, but J has it.

ngn
@Adám I should learn J some day... or month.

@ngn Well, just for an overview.

ngn
8:40 AM
@Adám yeah, I have that bookmarked, but the greatest difficulty I've had so far comes from the strange rules for forming trains, and having them reference themselves
@Adám also, array nesting was weird, as far as I can remember

@ngn Trains form pretty much like APL's, except 2-trains are A f g B and B f g B, so for an atop, you need the magic [: (cap) function: A ([: f g) B is f A g B and ([: f g) B is f g B.
@ngn And "" in a train is the magic $:.
I don't like magic.

ngn
@Adám I don't even understand it :)

@ngn Well, you can enclose a simple scalar, and most functions (even "scalar" ones) cannot access the content of an enclosure (a "box"), so you have to do "under disclose" all the time.
@ngn What don't you understand?

ngn
@Adám so if you have (outer train (inner train $:)), which one would $: refer to?

@ngn $: refers to the largest train. I know – magic.

ngn
8:47 AM
@Adám what about "f:=first train using $:" and "g:=second train using f"?

@ngn J has late binding.

ngn
@Adám ok, I need to do some reading before I even start learning J

9:03 AM
@Stormwind JD says: It was redundant and potentially conflicted with actual members called .New.
@Stormwind Vince says: Sorry about the confusion and inconvenience--we had a major server upgrade on Tuesday, but this has resulted in some problems, most obviously with our forums and MyDyalog. Our IT department is aware of the issues and is working to correct them.
@ovs Welcome! Interested in learning APL?

1 hour later…
10:26 AM
@Adám, thanks for checking
Redundant - absolutely not. Conflicted, yes, possible.
