There are a couple of configuration file formats which are "accidentally Turing-complete", most famously
sendmail.cf
. That would indicate that using an
actual scripting language might be beneficial, since that one was actually
designed to be Turing-complete.
However, Turing-completeness and "Tetris-completeness" are two different things, and while
sendmail.cf
can compute arbitrary functions, it can
not send your
/etc/passwd
over the net or format your harddisk, which Python or Perl would be able to. —
