tries out chat So, @Flaw...you still wondering about special relativity (SR)? I'm a math major, but I've taken physics up through Intro to Modern Physics. And no, you really can't call an accelerating frame inertial by 'ignoring' the acceleration on it. <cot'd>
Remember the twin paradox? The whole point of that paradox is "if you ignore the parts where there's acceleration, you appear to get paradoxes from special relativity." In the case of the twin paradox, the paradox arises from ignoring that, in reality, you can't go from 0.97c to 0c instantaneously (during which time there must be a force causing the acceleration to change the velocity from 0.97c to 0c). <cot'd>
In the case of moving cups, you'll never see the water in the cup being disturbed without it being acted on by an outside force. And since force and acceleration are so inseparable, you can conclude that the cup's frame became non-inertial during the time that the cup was being disturbed. And during the non-internal times, SR basically has nothing to say, except for "you're gonna need general relativity for this part."
Also, I wouldn't use the saying "SR tells us that we wouldn't know which frame is moving and which is stationary." Try this: "SR tells us that, if we consider the frame that we're currently in, we have no way to tell if it's moving or stationary compared to other frames that we can't see." So, if we're sitting on earth, we happen to be moving pretty quickly (what with earth's rotation, earth's orbit, movment of solar system, movement of galaxy, expansion of universe), <cot'd>
,,,but if we're 'intertial,' no experiment will tell us that we're moving relative to these other frames. (The frames being 'someone hanging out in space watching the planet rotate, or watching the earth orbit the sun, or someone outside the solar system watching it move, or outside the galaxy watching it move, or outside the universe (=o) watching it expand/move.)
Edit: Probably better to say "...that we can't observe" than "that we can't see," about 7 lines up.

@taylor I use minato-yamaguchi.co.jp which is the digital version of the local paper where I stayed in Japan (my hometown?)
But here is a good link onlinenewspapers.com/japan.htm (where I found my Yamaguchi Shinbun
speaking of which, I should probably read an article...
just watched the Kenshin live action film! Totally fan-girling out here

Thanks taylor for keeping me honest on my reading practice
one of those things you have to keep at to see any progress, even if you can't see the progress from day-to-day...my brain doesn't like delayed gratification, HA!
Ok, flashcards and bed time, night all

@Chocolate I still see hats though
えええっ!?なんで・・・??今日は、朝から、みんなの帽子も、自分の帽子も、見えないの~(T_T)

Q: Do we like hats?

entoIn 2011, the Gaming Stack Exchange hosted an event called Hat Dash, where users earned "hats" for their gravatars by completing certain tasks (analogous to badges): Certain actions would trigger the user receiving a hat, which their gravatar could then "wear". For example, editing a post would...

帽子のエベントは1月4日までなのに
ですよね・・・
I might be missing something...
Did you click "I hate hats" accidentally?
えええ・・・まさか・・・(T_T)
Oh! I can't even click the ▽'s on the top. Both the one next to "StackExchange"(for the inbox.) and the one next to my username...
Maybe there's something wrong with this laptop... I'll shut it down and let it get some rest. lol

@Chocolate Do you have NoScript or something similar? Make sure javascript from winterba.sh is allowed for hats, and make sure sstatic.net is allowed for the inbox drop-down.
