Yeah, that article also suggests #.

@kuchitsu It does, but it suggests No. 1 might not be understood, and my feeling is that this is an exaggeration. It might be less common to write it that way in the U.S., but it's not like we never write it that way.

@l'électeur Is that directed at me? Please don't be coy about who your target is when you attack somebody. Did you somehow manage to interpret my comment about「トレンドくすみカラーでこびないワタシ」 , which was posted before your answer, and which really is not about your answer, as me taking a snipe at you? I don't get really it, but I am sorry that you felt offended.
Hey, as long as we are, I'm assuming, having a conversation, let me tell you what I think. I think you resent any kind of criticism directed your way, whether constructive or not, whether posted in the chat or on the main site, and I think you should be more accepting or at least tolerant of opinions that are different from yours, especially in view of the fact that, like everybody else, you have been wrong on multiple occasions.
@l'électeur Despite that you see the voicing of dissenting views as a challenge to what you think is your indisputable authority and your response has been to verbally abuse, make a fallacious claim to discredit, or leave a passive-aggressive comment designed to hurt the person.
You try to browbeat others into meek silence, and it seems you've done a fairly good job of it so far. But if you care at all about truth, rightness, and serving the people seeking answers to their questions, that should be the last thing you want to do. This is not a place for you to feel superior.
If you want to dish it out and not take it, you should go somewhere else.
(P.S. Have you been downvoting my answers since we had a bit of a spat like way back last year? I'll be terribly sorry if I'm wrong about that, and I'd be the first to admit that my answers are anything but free of errors but i'd really appreciate it if you would try to intellectualize your downvotes and, you know, give me some reasoned criticism?)

Q: NHK Slightly Harder News

user3856370I think I've finally reached the stage where NHK Easy News is easy (mostly). Filled with confidence in my now truly awesome Japanese skills I thought it was time to read the adult news. Big mistake. It's almost like a different language. Aside from the massive lack of vocabulary my main problem...

Something that keeps bugging me is when people simply give you a downvote and don't bother saying what they don't like. I don't really care about my score, but if someone thinks something is incorrect in my answer, it would help us both if they tried pointing it out...
Can someone tell me where I am mistaken?
And, in particular, it would help the person asking the question since he otherwise won't know what to believe.

Okay, nwm, I found the problem by Googling. 知らんけど is apparently sort of a set phrase in itself in Kansai, and not simply the normal way of saying "I don't know, but", and it seems like Kansai people overuse it to always soften what they're saying, something that indeed seems unique to Kansai.
I guess the person downvoting didn't have time to, or didn't feel confident, writing a detailed answer of all the nuances of adding 知らんけど after each and every statement you make, when speaking Kansai...

I love 知らんけど. :D
It's like... You can say whatever you want and then avoid any responsibility by using that phrase. :) It's funny.
I don't know why downvoting answers with no explanation is even allowed. How do we benefit from silent downvotes that don't tell us anything?
Maybe stackexchange developers are hoping that silent downvotes will force us to develop telepathic skills.

I thought I was pretty good at telling japanese people apart from korean and chinese, but i've come to realize that most of the times I tell them apart for their clothing, hairstyles and general visual cues from cultural differences
because lately ive been seeing some japanese people who live in korea and adopted korean fashion, hairstyles, make ups and they look very korean to me
same for koreans live in japan, and specially chinese people who live and adopted japanese culture, some of them look very japanese to me
Just getting this off my chest a little bit, but now I feel like i'm starting to realize the deficiency of studying japanese on my own all this time: I can sometimes watch tv shows and understand pretty much everything, and at times not be able to answer some N3 levels questions (vocabulary/kankji ones, no problem with grammar). Like my japanese language skills is very unballanced and the test is so close T_T
not really sure at what point/state i'd be if I had a teacher from the get go, but it gets me wondering
