Quick question: is the うち in [自分の置かれた状況を把握(はあく)しようとして、混乱しているうちに殺されていたはずよ。] a verb or a noun?

doesnt ni indicate a noun?

7:58 PM
@Toyu_Frey at home?

8:16 PM
I was supposed to have been killed while confused trying to grasp my situation

9:07 PM
@JACK I don't think it means 'at home' in the above, and I don't know if the ni in the above case indicates a noun or not.

@Toyu_Frey what were you able to translate as?

@JACK I think it might mean 'while'. I still need to know if the うち in the above sentence is a verb or a noun, so that I can translate the above as a relative clause or not...

9:34 PM
@Toyu_Frey, I used different translators and came up with while too, even broke the clauses up.
