Q: Difference between 店{みせ} and 店{てん}舗{ぽ}

Ernestas GruodisWhat is the difference between 店{みせ} and 店{てん}舗{ぽ}? Both mean shop?

I’ve always felt that 店舗 can refer to different locations of a given (chain) store, but 店 can’t really. But no dictionary entry seems to support that, so I’m not sure. Is it just me?

yeah, 店舗 is used specifically for referring to different locations of a given business/chain store, while I think 店 can mean both a given business/chain store and its different locations.

though i should add that the "different location" sense is the vastly dominant one, i think.

Hmm... 「別の店に行こう」って言ったらdifferent location (of this chain)じゃなくてdifferent storeになりますよね?「別の店舗に行こう」って言ったらどっちかと言えばdifferent location (of this chain)になるような気がします…

@DariusJahandarie Oops! I meant to write ""a given business/chain" sense is the vastly dominant one"! I got it mixed up with 店舗 in my head at that moment of writing. Sorry!
