@Deo It's not unnecessary. You MUST memorize openings in order to play competitively. I'll bet you there's not a GM in the world that doesn't have openings memorized.

See, that's exactly the problem. You have to do your chores before you can get to actual game. It doesn't have to be like that.

memorizing them means you can use them a lot faster which means you will use less time from the game clock leaving you more later on

Having to memorize them in the first place is the core of the problem. It doesn't make game more interesting, it adds a lot of overhead to get into the game, it is just not fun (for many people).

There is already a fix - fisherandom chess. And it has nothing to do with the clock.
but that is a different game
and randomizing the starting positions just means there is more to memorize
and honestly it has been around for 20 years now so if it was really a better alternative to chess it should have started to take off more by now
