8:06 PM
seems like there are a bunch of people upset with the standard bans...
was some interesting choices, not sure how common it is for a common to be banned.

8:26 PM
January 15, 2018 ban announcement: Attune with Aether, Rogue Refiner, Rampaging Ferocidon, Ramunap Ruins all banned.

Some of you might get a kick out of Scryfall's card collage today.

hahaha, oh standard.... you so broken
When I got back into mtg it was legacy and vintage that were supposed to have the degenerate decks

8:47 PM
To be fair, most legacy decks would destroy Standard Temur Energy. It's better than everything else in the format, but it's not really degenerate
Temur Energy is really just a big pile of value with an unreasonable amount of color fixing.

So they removed 2 pieces of value and a piece of color fixing. :)

I liked the explanation and data they included with the ban announcement, was interesting to read their thought process

Same!

then again I don't play standard anymore so the bans don't make a difference to me

I mean they gotta provide lots of that so people don't go WIZARDS IS CRAZY AND EVIL WHAT ARE THEY DOING AND WHY
now they just go WIZARDS IS CRAZY AND EVIL

8:59 PM
well that's the thing, they don't actually have to provide any reasoning but they still do. It is more work for them but they reap benefits by getting more good will from their players
the openness when it comes to design and teaching is probably one of the reasons for their longevity I think

9:24 PM
was listening to a MaRo drive to work podcast on printing and he mentions that promo cards are often printed way in advance (sometimes over a year). It had me wondering, has WoTC ever had a promo card that was recently banned in the format it is supposed to be promoting?

spikey seems to be more useful than it first seemed...

seems like a lot on those list only made it a couple months

9:42 PM
they usually don't ban a card within the first few months, mainly because it hasn't had a chance to break anything yet. Smuggler's Copter was the fastest I know of: released in September, banned in January, so 4 months.
and promos don't tend to be reprints from earlier sets

I think there are couple breaks of the not generally reprints though
I remember getting a path to exile at a Magic Origins pre-release event
no idea why

2 hours later…

@AlexMitan nice. I'm glad you're making progress. That image with the custom dice looks awesome. I definitely want to hear more about the internal topology you're creating re: units and squads.

I went down a different kind of rabbithole this weekend:
you might find the "Mu" (puzzle) entry interesting, if you haven't heard of that game.

*(re: Amsterdam, might need an M entry for that magic plant;)*
