The green one where you choose flavorful and bland is like this too. I wonder if it is a cycle?
I really wonder what they are going to do on the gatherer page, and how this is going to break all the online shops since the cards not only have the same English name and set, but also collectors number....
There's several variants of Very Cryptic Command and several variants of Ineffable Blessing: scryfall.com/…
There's Target Minotaurs getting hit by different spells, Slow Zombies moving very slowly over several different seasons, Knight of the Kitchen Sink has several variations, and it's rumored Garbage Elemental and Killbots also have several functional variations.
@Malco It's okay for archives since they already have to store same-ID variants, and Scryfall has already had to do functional variants with the same name because of tokens sharing the same name but having different colors/abilities: scryfall.com/search?q=!soldier+is%3Atoken
I wonder now how the very cryptic commands work, is each option unique to a card or are there a certain number of options that have been randomly applied to the cards?
ie, as per the examples Murg posted, you could have a very cryptic with both assemble a contraption and draw a card from an opponents library
On the 8th we'll have better information about what variations actually exist, and if the rules committee or someone else doesn't beat me to it, I'll be asking the rules committee to express a ruling on these functional variations. On one hand, they all have the same name! On the other hand, they're fundamentally different cards.
E.g. case for only 1 per name: Very Cryptic Command. Case for multiple per name as long as they're of different functions: Killbot variants in a Mary O'Kill commander deck. (If the Killbot variants even exist and aren't just a rumor.)
