@Hendrik Vogt: Sorry about "Hendrig", all this German makes me mess up voiced/unvoiced consonants all the time :)
15:09
@TimN No problem. But since it was "k" and "g", I thought it might be worth pointing this out. I kind of expected that it was about voiced/unvoiced consonants :-)
German keeps intruding on my English and Swedish.
Auto-complete for comments would be nice.
16:06
@HendrikVogt What's wrong with deleting comments? Comments are basically made for deletion, really.
Comments are made to have useful information
It depends on who left the comment, moderators are exception.

@Gigili I think it's best to keep this discussion to the relevant meta post. But Tim is quite right, just deleting all the (non moderator) comments would be a bad idea; many contain very useful additional information.
17:47
@HendrikVogt Actually,I was kidding. but deleting comments is not much of a problem, as I got the impression when you wrote "to delete less comments" (something like that) .. anyway, let's never mind , @TimN is quite right sometimes.
I'm happy that you can agree on that point :)

"Some people I have to do with frequently call music that plays in radio "Weichspülmusik", [...] ... huh?
There's a lot of google hits, but no explanations
I don't understand the sentence structure, I read it 5687549 times.
Now, 5687550.
Aha, got it now.
Should be: Some people - I have to do with frequently - call music that plays in radio "Weichspülmusik" [...]
A little bit hard to understand at first sight.
Weichspülmusik for @Gigili
Weichspüler = fabric conditioner
@Takkat Awww, danke.
Aha!
@Takkat You should write an answer
19:43
Soft fabric soft music - oh was there a Q?
1
Q: What does "Weichspülmusik" mean?

Johannes Schaub - litbSome people I have to do with frequently call music that plays in radio "Weichspülmusik", like Diese Weichspülmusik möchte ich jetzt nicht hören. I always wonder what that means. Can anyone please clarify?

kk - I'll write one ty ;)

A: What does "Weichspülmusik" mean?

TakkatIn German "Weichspüler" is a fabric conditioner. In TV commercials they always have a very smooth and soft music to underline the softness of fabric after being treated with their product: Here is an example for this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqjaHlv0Gj4 Whenever people refer to "Weichspü...

Nice answer.
ty - I always try my best :P
@Takkat Is it a guess or are you sure? It contradicts the other answer.
19:49
How fast.
@TimN no it does not really contradict it. I was tempted to use "fluffy" as well (instead of soft). Of course I cannot offer a scientific reference shrug
@Gigili OK, didn't realize you were kidding.
@Takkat Hm, I interpreted the Tomalak's as the music you here on popular radio channels, and yours as music you here in elevators.
Perhaps it's the same, I haven't tried any German elevator :)
@HendrikVogt Haven't notice you were serious.
The term is not very common, the german equivalent of elevator music is used quit frequently though.
19:52
@TimN but people that say "Weichspül-" can't possibly think of anything else as a "Weichspüler" there is no other meaning.
@TimN Maybe they play radio in the elevators.
"Fahrstuhlmusik" is well known
(could add that to my answer)
Aha, I see
Never heard Fahrstuhl before, is that the same as Aufzug?
I should write a question
Yeah it's a bit old-fashioned but used with music
I'd say it's more elegant to ask for the "Fahrstuhl" ;)
It sounds awesome, too
I'm imagining a rocket-enabled chair
19:57
you can imagine the sound it makes - "fahren" not "rasen" ;)
Heh.
On the other hand, Aufzug sounds like a vertical train.
whenever I am in one of those glas elevators I am impressed how slow they are
Here's another word for you: Fahrstuhlknopf
it's the button you need to press
If you're in an Aufzug, you press Fahrstuhlknöpfe, not Aufzugknöpfe?
me yes - i don't know about the youngsters :P
they may simply press "auf 4"
I'll try to spend some time in elevators, for science :)
20:01
Fahrstuhlkonversation: Zzzzz (door opens) "Morgen" - "Morgen" - "Wohin?" - "Auf 4" - Zzzz absolute quietness
3
not a single syllable too many
I make so many mistakes speaking that people always have something to talk about
that's regional: go to Köln or Düsseldorf if you want to talk a lot!
they never stop there
"Morgen" "Morgen" "Wohin?" "Bei/an/nach/bis/zu 4"
Zzzz is not a door opening sound =/
It's a slow-elevator sound
20:04
How do doors open at yours?
People talk all the time here too, it's great.
It's bee's sound
A sleeping bee's?
@Takkat giiiiiiiiiiiiiizh (I doubt if you know how to pronounce 'zh')
kk summ, summ then?
20:05
@TimN the one which just woke up, actually.
really that many iiii ? :D
:D Never talk to an Iranian bee in monospace
Even more, depends on the elevator really !
Oh, it was the elevator.
Oh yes I heard some clonky donky noises that scare you away!
20:09
"Zzzzz" was a nickname I chose when I was young.
30 years ago!
@Gigili Sorry @Gigili - how could I know. 30 years ago even me was young!
@Takkat At least there was no elevators at that time (?), or they made more interesting sounds at the beginning.
they still have paternosters at some places
When I was a kid they started to have escalators - that was fun!
Escalators are not that old here!
They are far older in other places as well ;P
But "Rolltreppe verkehrtrum" was a great game for me little boy then...
20:19
Verkehrtrum?
Going up where it goes down
verkehrt herum - upside down?
Aha, but that's still fun
@HB: yeah!
@TimN you're younger...
:)
20:21
@Takkat I always wanted to do that, but never could
@Takkat You can't keep up anymore?
@Tim, are you at LMU?
@HB, TUM
@TimN I can't really - just about a bit too old to think I could :P
GLU
20:22
@TimN You can study German there?
@HB: Yep, they've got a lot of evening courses.
@TimN Interesting, i've been in the TU Physics building once but just for a visit, i'm at LMU.
Aha, what are you studying?
@TimN Click my profile and see my parent site you may guess :P
I don't spend much time in the physics department, I'm mostly in electrical engineering now
Well, there's a lot of people programming for fun...
20:25
@TimN Of course, but i do study that
@TimN I heard some building was quite a maze, but that might have been the chemistry one
In Garching I've only been in the physics building. I got lost that time, though, and when I finally found the room (15 minutes late), I found out that the mentor classes wouldn't start until the next week
@TimN Haha, happens.
@TimN This semester i thought i'd have three tutorials one day but two were scheduled to start the next week and the third one was called off.
@HB Heh, tutorials are hard. All three of my tutorials were apparently supposed to start the week after the lecture start, but they said that during the (German) lectures . I went to all three.
Fortunately I wasn't the only one who missed that for any of them, so it was OK
@TimN It's pretty much the default that tutorials start in the second week.
Sounds reasonable
20:33
@TimN Of course, as there is nothing to talk about if the lecture has just started.
ich kenne "boah ey" aus dem film "manta manta"
If it can be an answer !
@TimN My edit was rejected, do you know why?
@Gigili Because the original text is clear, but not the suggested edit.
It has mistakes!
*"in radio"
Yes, you could fix that :)
Wouldn't surprise me if they say "in radio" somewhere though, even if I'd say "on the radio"
20:49
I did! ok, no problem .. you're moderator.
Something that wouldn't surprise you is not necessarily correct!
vergammelt is pronounced like fer..., right?
right!
Danke
21:07
one of my favourite...
Spass :) Ich hatte nicht von Loriot gehört.
Loriot is a must!
Yes, I noticed!
everybody knows (and loves) his sketches - they are brilliant (and very German btw)
Für mich ist's Zeit in's Bett zu gehen - Gute Nacht!
21:24
Gute Nacht!
