A: How does the system sustain regular low-effort "splitting attacks"?

HelmarYou're tackling a few points there. The first remark that I have is right in the title. A splitting attack is not performed regularly. It's more precisely described as one sustained attack. A splitting attack's goal is to split the tangle in two parts that they can identify and spend on both. ...

Guys I found the oldest cache of my user account on Area51.SE
IoT.SE is in there too. ;)

@Aurora0001, what's your hat for?
I have 0 hats.
We're equal

1 hour later…
13:35
Oh, looks like cosmic brain is just for nice answer.
Winterbash 2017 has started!

14:04
I'm still hat-less :(
@Helmar Aww... It won't last long.
Something tells me nobody's getting the Explorer hat here.
@anonymous2 Why?
@HenryWHHackv2.1 post an accepted answer that receives no other votes for 12 hours
A bit on the unlikely side.
That seems impossible for us.
We have a very good voter base here, and it's unusual for a post to get no votes whatsoever in 12 hours.
Especially an accepted answer.
Not complaining, though, my hope is that it makes it a very welcoming community to new users who have good IoT questions.
14:13
Yep that's not gonna work here
There should be a hat for asking a well received question on all network sites :)
What if we: Answer the question and then leave a comment saying "Guys please don't vote on this until 13 hours have pasted." ;)
@Helmar That would take one committed user, lol.
I saw someone quick starred my last message.
@HenryWHHackv2.1 Ahh... I'm not that wild about hats. ;)
@HenryWHHackv2.1 Hit the star instead of reply. Sorry.
@anonymous2 it would also probably totally freak out Vegetarianism SE
They've got like 100 views a day^^
14:15
@anonymous2 OK. :(
@Helmar Lol. True that.
@Helmar You should see Augur.SE.
95 that's bad
It was down to 40 something.
Interestingly, there Q/day is not far off or ours.

Q: Is this site dead?

5chdnHenry pointed out in the chat room that we are down to 0 questions per day, and he further said, "this site looks uhhh". I have to admit; he is not far off with his statement. I just checked, and there were only six questions asked in November. Do we want to continue running this site as a comm...

All their mods are <1k
Yeah they've got a terrible rep distribution
A 230 rep moderator, don't think I've seen that anywhere :D
You should see this:
OK that's a different story.
He was appointed because he worked for CS50.

Q: The moderators do not seem to be moderating

TimIt may just be me not understanding how this site works, but these are the moderators (all appointed March 2014): danallan ♦ 1 - No activity besides reading tour page. daven ♦ 1 - Absolutely nothing. GabrielGuimaraes ♦ 46 - Very little activity - 4 badges and an answer (meta user) glennhollow...

They had to make the nomination question community wiki so that the potential mods could edit the posts to insert their acceptance
@Helmar Rofl.
They had 4 questions this year, I don't think the community moderation works over there ;)
oh i was on their meta
nevermind
Still...
14:44
@anonymous2 It's a secret hat
@Aurora0001 Ha.

A: Winter Bash 2017 Hats

EranSecret Hats Ooh, Shiny! Cosmic Brain Galaxy Brain Universe Brain Rep Cap

No secrets from me. ;)
Spoilers!
I think we need an IoT team effort for this one:
And YOU Get A Hat!

own any hat while the entire site collectively has at least 20 distinct hats
That could be a tough one, but we might manage it.
I might be able to get a self-answered question going that could be interesting
@Aurora0001 In a lot of ways, self-answered is kind of good on the site, as long as people don't feel bad about piling another answer on.
14:57
How long is the hat season again?
@Aurora0001 I'm working on This is Fine and Werewolf Hunter
@Helmar Until January 3rd
Quite long this year, actually
I got the "And YOU Get A Hat" hat from SO just now... they're too eager :P
@Aurora0001 Almost 7k hats over there.
Mathematics follows close on its heals with 152. ;)
Oh, they just made it to 7k.
I came in as soon as I saw tux because I felt like coming in.
We've got a few questions sitting around 9k views maybe one goes gold
15:03
Put on my mod hat
Although it's a little hard to see
Hmm
@Helmar I might get 'Copy Editor' at some point this month
Right, 26 edits seems reasonable
I might get Inquisitive.
Sweet
Though I think a silver badge will get handed out anyways
Yes, quite likely.
15:18
We just passed History!
Tied with RPi
We'll get you yet, Ghanima... ;)
I clicked the "I hat hats" button.
hours ago.
Aah there's my app voting hat
Think I last voted on the app last winterbash
I don't even have the app, so no hat for me
15:40
We've passed RPi!
You hear that, @Ghanima? ;)
@Aurora0001 Shhh.... they might start trying. ;)
Passed UX
15:56
Wow, and UX is a big site
Just not as dedicated ;)
Beware of their inertia, they'll get a lot by accident :P
Only have to pass 52 more sites to catch up with SO. ;)
I smell cheating:
Community got a hat on Theoretical Computer Science!
A secret one no less!
Getting the Reputation hat seems very unlikely too
@anonymous2 Actually they already are, Yearling badges ;)
Anyhow, headed out for a bit.
Got snow to blow.
16:11
Hmm, your hat is... unusual :P
First AuroraQuestion in a while ;)
Should have posted it at 7pm to get the other hat too though
17:04
Huh, why is the review red dot showing?
Yet as far as I can tell there are no reviews waiting at all?
Because it's the first time in a month or two that there have been no reviews pending. ;)
But it is for me, too.
And on meta IoT
And on every other site too
Seems like someone broke something
Yep, on interpersonal too.
The review icon is wearing a hat.
Sounds like the name of a meta post.
@Aurora0001 passed what, passed how?
IoT was ranked higher than RPi (don't know if it still is; probably)
17:19
yes, I've heard about the hat thing

1 hour later…
18:29
I think the review icon is just broken every other day
19:01
RPi is now tied again with IoT
19:32
They've passed.
Shhh...

Q: Experiment: More aggressive review queue indicator

Jon EricsonOver on Meta Stack Exchange, I announced an experiment that would: Turn on the review queue indicator whenever there's a task available in any queue. All queues with at least one task will be marked with a red dot. There are no grey dots: This will mean you'll be notified of outstanding tas...

@anonymous2 And we're ahead again

1 hour later…
22:15
15:15 it is, @Aurora0001
I never thought we'd do badly against IoT ;)
