Any chance this could be salvaged?

Q: As a student, how can I develop skills for an IoT job outside of formal education?

GregFrom a college student's perspective, to be able to do well in a Computer Science related field, that student has to go above and beyond just getting a degree. In terms of IoT, what should be my main areas of focus to develop my skills that might not be taught in college, in order to help me be...

I've been looking at it. I closed it since we don't really want questions of that low a quality in the HNQ, but I think it could be salvaged with some careful pruning.
It's not an awful question, it's just too broad and rather opinion based.
Really, that's the meaning of "On Hold," I guess.
Kind of a "Hang on, we've got something we have to correct before this question can go any further." At least, that's how I tend to see it. :)
If only everyone else saw it that way
A lot of people treat it as "your question is terrible, and it can never be reopened"
Time for a heroic edit?
@Aurora0001 Unfortunately true.
@Aurora0001 Go for it.

Q: As a Computer Science student, how can I develop skills for an IoT job outside of formal education?

GregIn order to do well in a Computer Science related field, a college student has to do much more than just getting a degreeβ€”they must go above and beyond to be competitive with others in the field. As a CS student, I'm relatively comfortable with the software aspect of IoT, but less happy with the...

Better?
@Aurora0001 Definitely better.
12:14
votes to reopen
... oh wait
:P
@Aur For myself, I would say it's fine to re-open at this point. If we get a bunch of low-quality answers, we can always protect it.
I'll leave you to do the honours... Seems inappropriate for me to edit then reopen
At least then there are two sets of eyes on the question before it's open
@Aurora0001, done.
Could even put a couple more answers on.
I'll see if I get any interesting ideas of what to add
Also, in other news, Area 51 now displays 1.1 questions/day again!
Better than 0.9
12:32
@Aurora0001 Yay! Party?
🎈
One balloon to celebrate
@Aurora0001 It ought to be 1.1, don't you think?
Only 9x more questions needed to graduate!
@anonymous2 🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈
11 deciballoons then

50% HNP
+1 for "Just my 2 cents (which rounds down in Canada)"
@Aurora0001 No pennies anymore, lol.
I had forgotten that was a thing in Canada, but it does make the expression far more amusing
We sometimes joke about that famous Benjamin Franklin quote: "A penny saved is a penny earned," changing it to "A penny saved is... worthless."
The other funny joke we sometimes use is, "A penny for your two cents?"
Argh, got to close some of these 50 tabs...
I only have about 6
12:42
Howdy, @NagarajHegde!
Welcome to the Chat of Things!
13:26
Lol, there are chat rooms that don't use there stars.
The Pitstop still has Winterbash on the starboard.
Well, it was only a third of a year ago :P
Our oldest is less than a month.
14:30
Engineering is getting close to graduation, IMO.
Yeah, looks like it
Although honestly I think Robert Cartaino's idea of just scrapping the 'beta' label is a good one for most new sites
It just makes it sound like new sites are 'incomplete' even if they're over 2000 days old
@Aurora0001 Hmm, haven't seen that one yet. Did I miss something? ;)

A: Should we rename or remove the "beta" label?

Robert CartainoI've been a long-time proponent of removing the "beta" label when it no longer makes sense. I agree that labeling a site as "beta" creates a lot of confusion… and a certain stigma when it looks like a site is never going to <quote> "get out of beta." But let's be careful not to replace this sys...

@Aurora0001 Hm, good read.
14:59
Two questions at once!
Yes, siree!
We're getting swamped! (tm)
I'll have a stab at one of them in a few minutes if I get time

2 hours later…

@Ghanima <comment deleted as 'too critical of His Madnificence'>
Oh, you made me think that I accidentally deleted it for a second
I am being repressed!
Wow, this is a good day! 2 HNQ's...
It's... a miracle
It's like 10 days of activity, crushed into one day :P
17:27
Lol. Well, let's hope it brings on some great users.
Let's see if I can get another Announcer badge out of your question
Good grief.
Reddit is good for something, at least.
Most of those are from Hacker News
Oh, hacker news then.
But, it works well for me... 13 Announcer badges
So at least 325 views
17:32
@Ghanima What has his Madnificence done this time?
;)
@Aurora0001 check the stats now.
What a wonder when something is happening on the site every hour... ;)
18:17
@anonymous2 sssh, can't tell
he's listening
18:50
BTW, happy IoT day... (a day late...)
4
Perhaps we should have our own IoT day...
what is IOT day?
Minus the beer for me. ;)
I'll take the coffee, though.
@Aurora0001 who needs reddit when you can have webpages using font size 92
18:53
Actually, come to think of it, I did discuss the IoT with a couple friends over a coffee.
@Ghanima Hrmph! Bad internet practice IMHO.
@Ghanima They need a 'smart' font resizer ;)
Or perhaps just a better designer
IoT font resizer it is!
19:33
@Aurora0001 IoT to the rescue! raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/q/65662/19949
Hmmmmm
Maybe not
They have an unusual way of spelling 'Jonathan', though
@Aurora0001 Lol, I was noticing the same thing.
they do, but that does not warrant destruction ;)
It is apparently a way though...
== English == === Proper noun === Johnathan A male given name, an uncommon variant spelling of Jonathan, confusing that name with John....
@Aurora0001 Interesting.
19:37
@Ghanima Your first grammar mistake? Account destroyed
And that's not all:
@anonymous2 try IoT instead of SO
ba dum tss!
You've got 4 on RPi.
19:40
Why am I getting an advert for Intel's IoT stuff on RPi?
SE could be getting their money from this site!
get more rep to get rid of ads, I'd say
And all of our 300 users/day
@Ghanima Or get an ad-blocker.
19:41
@Ghanima You don't need rep for that ;)
I disabled my ad blocker though for SE
Just need AdBlock Plus
@Aurora0001 I didn't
I disabled 1 / 3 for SE.
they get my time for free, there is really no need for me to see their ads
The IoT tag on Stack Overflow is so wonderful, by the way

Q: What are the best IoT platforms for building connected car application?

VishnudasI want to build a connected car application for monitoring the telemetry data from OBD2 device. Which are best available combinations of platforms and devices for building application?

Also, I updated my profile with a quote to reflect the difficulty of being both a moderator and a normal user
clickbait, clickbait!
You'll be shocked to read what he put there!!!
I am shocked
I don't get the reference though
Well, as a moderator and a user, I must wear two hats
My moderator hat and my user hat....
yes, yes
I mean that I am unaware of the source you cite
20:18
Oh, right
Yes Minister / Yes Prime Minister is a (quite old) TV show
Yes Minister is a satirical British sitcom written by Sir Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn that was first transmitted by BBC Television between 1980 and 1984, split over three seven-episode series. The sequel, Yes, Prime Minister, ran from 1986 to 1988. In total there were 38 episodes, of which all but one lasted half an hour, each episode ending with the title of the series as an answer to any question posed by Hacker. Several episodes were adapted for BBC Radio, and a stage play was produced in 2010, the latter leading to a new television series on UKTV Gold in 2013. Set principally in the private...
