@BenceKaulics indeed, about 150 rep more now!

How to add parental control to echo dot? Is this an appropriate question for this forum? echo dot is an IOT device, not too sure parental control is an topic. Thoughts??
@MahendraGunawardena Definitely on-topic in my opinion
It seems like technical questions about devices like that are fine here
Just like these:

Q: How do I stop an Amazon Echo from making a sound after restarting?

Aurora0001When booting, the Amazon Echo plays a sound and says 'hello', which is usually not a problem, but I'm concerned that if I have a power failure in the night, the Echo might reboot and play a loud sound, waking me up. One user seems to have experienced a similar problem on the Amazon forum: [O...

Q: What voice commands for Hue lamps does Amazon Echo offer?

HelmarI'm thinking about getting some Philips Hue lighting equipment. Something along the lines of this one as a starter kit. I already have an Echo Dot. The marketing buzz is great and both the Hue products highlight that they work with Amazon Echo and the Echo site state that they work with the Hue p...

So I say go ahead and post it @MahendraGunawardena, should be a great question!
@Aurora0001, OK I will compose the question

Does anyone think that doesn't work well as a tag?
I can't write a very good tag wiki for it so I think it might not be a good tag at all

2 hours later…
16:03
What is the matter with ?
16:24
I'm not very happy with those two tags either.
16:49
Just seems like and don't really describe anything
Tags for things like are useful because people might be searching for Echo-related questions
I doubt anyone searches for
@Aurora0001 I agree in general.
At least for the client
For the server there might be a use, however, we don't have that many IoT server/service questions yet
Most are from a using/end device perspective
No, I see your point there
We could always just burn and leave as it is for now
Tag creation will go up to 150 rep soon anyway
@BenceKaulics, what do you think? You created both.
Also, I wish @Helmar's tag wiki blueprint could be kept in some sort of FAQ so I didn't have to keep digging to find it
Also, 20 rep until I get tag wiki edit privileges!
17:24
I do love it when you flag a comment and the system deletes it instantly
It's somehow quite satisfying

Hooray! I'm now a "trusted user"
Until we graduate to public beta
@Aurora0001 Grats 2k.
Thanks!
Next target: 2.5k for the analytics access
@Helmar The question is: Shall we have tag level indications of server and client or it is enough if it is mentioned in the question body? Probably it does not make much difference. For example an MQTT expert will answer a question of both and will subscribe to the mqtt tag. Clients and servers can vary by protocols and technologies so there wont be client or server experts, there wont be subscribers.
We can delete them I think. They were early tags from me. I reconsidered.
I use tags to have the relevant questions highlighted in the feed and subscribe and get emails of new question with that tag. I would not subscribe to client or server or make them favourite as they are too broad.
Sounds like a good plan to me @BenceKaulics

20 suggested review today. No more for 5 hours.
It's alright, they're only my tag wiki edits
I can now insta-approve anything ;)
Then I redirect my energy to the Sir Ask-A-Lot it is pretty close now.
That's good - more questions are always good!
Also, I think I got about 40 rep today just from tag wiki edits
Yep. And 3 still pending?
Or more.
Still have 6 notificqtions.
3 pending I think
The counter shows as 3 for me
5 pending actually

howdy
how are you kids doing?
Hi @Ghanima
His Madnificence now has 'trusted user' privileges
Which are, admittedly, only useful in certain cases
yeah!
And I'll also lose the privileges in about a week
Oh well
we'll see about that
I mean, you know, they might come to the conclusion that you are worthy
Might is the key word there
Might not too :P
20:49
we'll see ;)
You have the possible advantage of prior mod experience though
Which I'm sure would be helpful to the other pro tems
it's probably my only ace in the sleeve
Plus the highest combined SE rep
they're not into network flair I guess but more into domain knowledge
which is where you and helmar rank highest
Well, in fairness, I have no real IoT experience
Just a decent amount of programming experience which carries over nicely
20:53
but you try hard to provide Qs and As
That's true
I do wonder if they might pick @anonymous2 though because of the timezones
uhm sorry try hard could be read differently than what I was going for ;)
@Ghanima but you still leave the mystery about which meaning you intended ;)
to be very honest, I have no hard feelings if the do not pick me, I am willing to contribute in the role of a pro tem and I will be happy if the chose me but I'll take it with a certain degree of sportmanship if the (for whatever reasons) pick you ;)
@Aurora0001 try hard and do well
@Ghanima likewise, I wouldn't be at all upset if you were picked
Anyway, it wouldn't be terrible for me since I have enough rep to keep the important powers :P
And I'll keep promoting either way
20:58
yep, that is certainly an important thing
to have at least a few of active high rep users that process the review queues
I hardly get chance though! By the time I get on, everyone else has already reviewed everything
but it will be more important during open beta
Yeah, I've noticed some reviewers don't really participate other than that
Especially in the Close Votes queue
I'll never get that hat on RPi, they just don't vote over there
I'll take a look round and vote on stuff (not just yours, of course!)
You could really do with a few more editors couldn't you?
21:01
of course
@Aurora0001 at RPi?
we could use more users on the high rep queues, like close and re-open
Well, I can't help you with that - is it 3k there because it's graduated?
the thing as a mod is that you do not want to hammer things down with your single vote but instead encourage community votes
yeah, it's quite high
@Ghanima indeed, that'd be my worry if I did become a pro tem
Honestly it would make more sense to scale privileges differently based on site activity
21:04
@Aurora0001 certainly
Getting 3k at RPi will be much harder than 3k at SO
it was quite the change for after graduation... but not for long
And it took me about 3 months to get 3k on SO
The Community user is also bumping loads of stuff @Ghanima
on RPi
Probably because no-one votes on answers
@Aurora0001 yeah, community is pretty active
If only people would upvote answers so it didn't keep bumping
21:08
it generates "activity" as there are somedays only a few questions
On the topic of questions, Area 51 now says we're at 2.8/day
And I now own over 20% of all questions :P
The Community Ads seem to have been completely useless so far too
I think that many users don't see them
Yeah
Maybe we need more distinctive ads to attract people
The area 51 ads aren't exactly compelling
The other stats are pretty good though
95% answered
1.6 answer ratio
Visits/day are stable which is really good
answer ratio could be a little higher
but it's not SO
Well, it's within the acceptable range
Less than 1 'needs work'
2.5 is 'good'
21:19
less than 1 ;)
Well, you have to factor in the terrible answers that some people contribute, which are of course 10% of an answer
Therefore making the average answer ratio 0.9-ish
I guess they don't factor that in at area51 stats
Time for AuroraStats then :P
We've had AuroraHats, and AuroraQuestions
I was afraid of that
Why be afraid? Everything that starts with an Aurora- is great!
Apart from the slight discrepancy that I'm in the lead for AuroraHats
Definitely not by design
21:23
definitely not
nobody would even dare to suggest that
AuroraHats End Date: January 3rd, 18:00 GMT
I could just leave it running forever to be fair
But all good things must come to an end, so I'll get rid of them on that date.
jupp
Did you just repin that?
Or am I going mad?
I really need to write just two more funny comments here to earn yet another fancy AuroraHat
no, I did not pin a thing
do I have to change my name to when getting the "black hole" hat?
I didn't (but I probably should have done!)
I recommend it
Since the pinning won't work:
"Please note that with the anticipated slowdown in traffic during the end-of-year holidays, we will not be evaluating this site for public launch until after the new year. – Robert Cartaino♦"
21:36
@Aurora0001 ... and don't any of you take it as an excuse to not contribute high quality content to the site
Quite the opposite for me: 1 question per day (at least), no exceptions
Also @Ghanima your hat is on its way
Anyway, I have to go now - bye!
yeah, me too
see you

@HenryWHHackv2.0 Hi!
