Q: Is one allowed to have a Tree as a logo of Mi Yodeya?

LeitzThis is a virtual beis medrash. A Beis Medrash is greater than a Shul. A Shul is like the Beis Hamikdash. One is not allowed to have a tree in the Beis Hamikdash, so kal vachomer not in a beis medrash. You will claim that this only a virtual tree, so it shouldn't be a problem. I'll answer that t...

Q: Is a golem logo appropriate for this site?

LeitzOne is not allowed to think Torah thoughts in a bathroom. Here this site doubts my humanity so I see this "golem". However, while I was thinking some Torah, I saw this inappropriately dressed humanoid. Maybe someone should put some clothes on him?

I'll be honest. I'm a little disappointed to have only gotten +6 on this answer.

A: Haman was Basar b’Chalav, so how could we eat him?

Seth JFirst we must address Dinei כחל (Y"D 90). The Meḥaber (Y"D 90:1) writes, "כחל (udder) is Asur MiDeRabanan because the Torah did not forbid meat cooked with milk from a(n already) slaughtered (animal) ... A כחל that has not been cut (see background, below) ... it is Asur to cook. If ...

@SethJ "'TL,' they say. 'DR,' they say."

@IsaacMoses I figured that much. I sent it to someone who had written a 30 page Shi'ur on Hilchos Superheroes. And he asked me for permission to deliver it at his Purim Se'udah! I put in a lot of hours, so I'm just disappointed that people didn't take the time to read it. :\

Q: Are our moderators legal?

LeitzWe know there is a famous Drash of "Som Tasim Alecha Melech". From here we have several Diyukim: Melech velo Malka - How do we have a woman mod? Melech (singular) - we can only have one mod. How do we have 3? If they are not legal, is there Dina D'Malchusa regarding stackexchange? Do I have t...

@SethJ I liked it.

@msh210 Thanks, brah.
I'm off, for now. Good night, all.

@SethJ It's an exercise in a very specific genre of humor writing, and even within that, there are some styles and subject matters that appeal to some people and others to others. If I were you, I'd consider the esteem demonstrated by the superhero guy to be worth a great deal more, qualitatively, than a bunch of anonymous upvotes.

Q: How to explain Kashruth simply

Seth JHow can one explain Kashruth to a curious colleague without too much complexity? I get curious questions all the time, mostly about the laws and about rabbis blessing the food, which is, of course, a myth that I have to dispel. I generally try to keep it simple, but it invariably becomes complic...

@SethJ Can't click through or see a preview right now. It that the same as youtube.com/watch?v=v1ZRITUYaEo ?
... If so, go for it, but don't be surprised if they bring you treif beef to eat afterward.

7:44 PM
@IsaacMoses No, it's a cooking show with a special episode cooking a Kosher dinner.

@SethJ Top comment there: >"This is Chabad/Hasidic style Kosher. They really don't represent mainstream Judaism haha."
Interesting. And here I thought it was the same Shulchan Aruch and everything! ;) Maybe the mainstream Judaism they refer to is non-orthodox.

(Is my bias showing?) ;)
Good Shabbos and Happy Purim everyone!

@HodofHod There's the Shulchan Aruch HaRav and then there's the MO Shulchan Aruch

@ba True. But most of the laws of kashrus from the Rav's have been lost. With the exception of most of hechsher keilim. Taaruvos, Basar B'Chalav etc, are learned from the SA.

@HodofHod And Hechsher Keilim is only learned from diukim in hilchos pesach.

@ShmuelBrin Diukim? I suppose....

@HodofHod One can learn Basar BeChalav and Taaroves the same way (there is a blue sefer that does just that)
