Between J. C. Salomon & Dave, and Adam Mosheh and Shimon bM, these gravatars are starting to confuse me

@HodofHod I've been curious what prompted Shimon bM to choose his. Unlike AdamMosheh, his name doesn't seem to contain an Alef.

Q: Does this election add to the moderators or replace them?

Monica CellioAre we voting to add moderators, or are we voting on a complete slate (so existing moderators need to nominate themselves if they want to continue)?

@unforgettableid I forgot to tell you to favorite it before deleting it so you can find it again if you close it. If you have already closed it and you lost the URL ping me here and I'll give it to you.
@HodofHod Can you super ping him to see that?
Or @IsaacMoses Whichever of you two is actually here.

4:55 AM
He can see a self deleted post, right?

@DoubleAA What am I pinging him about?

I'm afraid he may have lost the link. I forgot to warn him (because I forgot about my 10k priveleges.)

@unforgettableid If you're looking for your deleted post, it can be found here: judaism.stackexchange.com/questions/17612/…
@DoubleAA Done.

@HodofHod Thanks. He can see that link right? It was a self-delete.
@HodofHod That looks like a normal ping to me. Weird.

@DoubleAA He should be able to. I think. If not, he can ping me to undelete.

5:01 AM
@HodofHod Ok thanks.

@DoubleAA Good Lashon Hara question.

@HodofHod No
It still needs 23 more votes.

5:23 AM
@DoubleAA, Was just back-reading in chat a bit. Found out about this. What's the deal?
Is it just like YWN coffee room, but with voting?

6:01 AM
@jake Tremendously unclear.

5 users with the same gravatar. out of 26. interesting

I love how our very own @DovF is already leading the rep charts over there :)

@HodofHod and @DoubleAA: Thank you. But the link HodofHod posted to my deleted question takes me to a 404 page. :) Luckily I left a tab open holding the deleted question, and I also opened a second tab holding a copy of my question at liveweb.archive.org . Also I use Firefox plus Interclue Lazarus to hold copies of old textarea content.

6:18 AM
@HodofHod Maybe it's because the link was to a comment on that post?

@jake Whoa! From their About page: The second difference [between them and Mi Yodeya] is that although stack-exchange does have a Jewish forum, unfortunately it seems to have attracted the modern orthodox community and their questions tend to be of subjects that our community would generally not talk about in public.

Q: Askers should see their answers' vote counts

msh210Question authors should be able to see the count of upvotes and downvotes on answers to their questions in order to better evaluate the answers: an answer with 100 upvotes and 100 downvotes is controversial, while an answer with 0 and 0 is not. (Vote counts are visible to those with 1000 reputati...

@DoubleAA If they don't take their site seriously it'll never make it big

@HahuGavra Fine by me. They're all welcome to bring their serious questions here.

@DoubleAA I think they don't want their questions to be tainted by your modern orthodox apikorsus answers.

@HahuGavra It's no secret that my highest scoring tag is .

@DoubleAA Just looking thru your answers i see all these references to some (probably MO) book called "Shulchan Aruch" and not even a single reference any gedolei torah like R Chaim Kanievsky, Rov Eliyashiv, the Brisker Rov, R Amram Blau... how can you call that halacha?

Q: What does the moderator job entail?

Monica CellioSome aspects of the moderation job are obvious -- reviewing flags, cultivating site direction via discussions in meta, paying attention to first posts/edits/etc. Other aspects are not so visible; jobs well-done often fly below everyone else's radar. And the time commitment is only a guess. So ...

@ anyone (not a mod), just out of curiosity, there should be a "locked" notice on judaism.stackexchange.com/q/17623. Can you see when the lock expires?

Q: July 2012 Moderator Election: Town Hall Chat

Grace NoteIn connection with the moderator elections, we will be holding a Town Hall Chat session with the candidates. This will be an opportunity for members of the community to pose questions to the candidates on the topic of moderation. Participation is completely voluntary. I will be working with the...

4:42 PM
@DoubleAA Whoa. Is that for real? Somebody really thinks it's proper to break something the whole world uses just because his community doesn't want it? It's like prohibition on steroids.
@msh210 I don't see a lock notice, but I don't have an account there so maybe that's relevant.

4:54 PM
@msh210 No lock notice either. And I do have an account.

@MonicaCellio I don't know if you're being satiric or not, but that question DoubleAA linked to is clearly a joke. Check out the questioner's profile on that site.

@jake Ah, so it's Purim Torah all year long then. I guess that's reassuring. :-) (But I'm guessing that if they keep that up, their site wouldn't still be active by next Purim...) Sadly, I have actually heard fundamentalists (of various types) advocate things like that in all seriousness, so while was I pretty sure it was a joke I wasn't completely sure.

@MonicaCellio @DoubleAA Sorry, no longer relevant: I've lifted the lock. (And I was referring to the question here (pre-migration), not the one there.)

Backhanded advertising for the competition? judaism.stackexchange.com/questions/17629/…
(הגם לכבוש...)

@Dave "competition?"
Very different scope and style there. Doubt they're going to "take" our users.

@HodofHod I'm with you. Just wondering aloud regarding the fellow's motive.

6:45 PM
Where's @Alex been?
Did he go Yahu on us?
@HodofHod Can you map into the preexisting ?
@msh210 ^^^

@DoubleAA Done, thanks.

Q: Yodeya.com down?

b aI usually go to Mi Yodeya by going to yodeya.com (instead of judaism.stackexchange.com), because it's easier to type quickly, and m.y redirects to j.se. The last time I went to yodeya.com, however, it gave me this message: 503 Service Unavailable ...

Q: Migrating comments

Gershon GoldSometimes in response to a question/answer there is a long stream of comments which lead to another question. Right now there is no way to migrate comments to the new question. Perhaps such a feature would be useful.

hi all. I deleted my own question <http://judaism.stackexchange.com/questions/17641/should-i-do-easy-chores-for-my> in order to edit the title. Now I can't undelete it. Can someone with high reputation please undelete it for me?

@HodofHod Thank you; kol tuv.

10:37 PM
@HodofHod Why can I undelete my own posts with one vote when I don't have mod rights?

11:07 PM
@DoubleAA, are you considering throwing your hat into the election ring? I'd like to encourage you to do so.

Q: Nominees' Stats on Election Page

Double AAThis is a screenshot of msh210's (current pro-tem moderator) nomination page for the 2012 Mi Yodeya election: As you can see, there is a listed number of helpful flags (well over 200 for msh210). However, as of now msh210 does not have a Deputy badge. We speculated that perhaps the listed help...
