@MonicaCellio - It doesn't necessarily have to do much with confirmation. It is a introductory book on Jewish philosophy from the perspective of a Reform Rabbi. I really enjoyed it.

@Alex Wouldn't the abstract noun of ישב be ישיבה?

If bounties don't seem to work, how about contests such as these in order to facilitate the asking of more questions related to certain topics? And how do they get the money to do such a contest?

@AdamMosheh Like this?

@DoubleAA Yes, but maybe people need more of an incentive?

@AdamMosheh What do you mean by "If bounties don't seem to work"? How should bounties work in encouraging the asking of questions? I'd think they only work in encouraging answering.

Q: בְּתוֹךְ and בְּקֶרֶב are both translated "in the midst"; is there a difference in nuance?

Monica CellioI understand בְּתוֹךְ as "in the midst of". The tree of life is b'tokh ha-gan (in the midst of the garden), and God spoke to the people mitokh ha-eish (from the midst of the fire). I learned today that JPS also sometimes translates בְּקֶרֶב as "in the midst", as it does in Habbakuk 3:2 (בְּקֶרֶ...

^^in scope? ( @MonicaCellio )

@msh210 If the current formulation of the question is problematic, is there a better way I should cast it?
I realize you might be the wrong person to ask since you up-voted it. Anybody else?

@MonicaCellio It has no upvote from me.
@MonicaCellio Perhaps if it were a question about why the one word is used in certain places and the other in others? that'd make it more on the texts and less on the language.
Come to think of it, I think I'll rectify that ("It has no upvote from me") and give it one.
@MonicaCellio (I upvoted it when I commented "+1". I removed the upvote on second thought, as possibly off-topic. I restored it within the past few minutes. I'm nothing if not fickle. :-))

@msh210 oh, sorry -- you commented saying +1 so I assumed you had.
@msh210 Ah, gotcha. I assume we've all reconsidered votes from time to time; I know I have.
@msh210 I can do that. I didn't just ask about Habbakuk because I wanted to understand any pattern that's there, but I certainly didn't mean to end up so close to the scope line.

7:55 PM
@msh210 I've revised the question. Is this better?

@MonicaCellio IMO it's more in-scope this way but less general. (You're asking specifically about those verses.)

@msh210 Let's see how specific or general the answers I get are. I prefer the more-general one, but I don't want to be the catalyst for off-topic Hebrew questions.

@MonicaCellio I'm sorry to have been the nitpicker.

@msh210 We all want the same thing -- a great site. No worries.

Q: Idea for weekly topic challenge: Pirkei Avot

Adam MoshehI propose questions relating to Pirkei Avot as a topic.

@StackExchange @AdamMosheh thanks :-)

@msh210 Good idea or no?

@AdamMosheh IMO yes
