@MartinSleziak I think it is because math search is new to almost everybody, and the number of potential users is also small. Or maybe people did not find what they want using Approach0. I would love to hear from these people too.
@WeiZhong Well, I was under the impression that many users started using this website, based on this:
After announcing http://approach0.xyz for weeks, and having users testing ~10K queries. Approach0 just released its first version.
Or perhaps at least tried it. (We cannot be sure whether some of them started to use it regularly.)
We will see, there are several ways how users can contribute their feedback. So perhaps we will eventually hear from some of them.
Is ther ea way to search the site for a question with a specific equation?
Example: a^3 + b^4 = c^5
11:19
@ypercubeᵀᴹ You mean the equation has to be in the title? Approach0 currently searches both title and post content (including answer), there is no way to narrow down the search field. I tried one query (approach0.xyz/search/…), no relevant post though.
11:34
@MartinSleziak Before I was releasing the first version, I advertised many places on the Web. Which brings in a lot traffic at first (AFAIK, initial traffic comes notably from Reddit: reddit.com/user/ga6840). Just now, I logged onto server to have a look on recent query log, the number is about 3k since sep/23, so the traffic goes down a lot. And most recent log interval records that ~100 queries between the day of 11 and 14, so it is about 25 queries/day.
And this includes queries from the same IP, so my guess is either most of the people who have tried approach do not find it useful or those people do not have the need to search math, trying first one or two queries is purely for curiosity.
12:03
@WeiZhong No, not really.
I tried the approach0.xyz and it worked. Better than the search on the site.
Did you make thi ssearch engine?
(2^X-1)^1/2 =y ... what's it's domain?
12:19
@ypercubeᵀᴹ I am proud that I write most of the code. But this project needs more people to involve and push it forward.
@WeiZhong All projects need that ;)
at least in the initial stages
@ffahim Approach0 is not a computational search engine, that kind of query should be solved better in wolfra alpha. BTW, that is an easy question, what is the point to search?
@ffahim this is probbaly not the right place to ask this
@ypercubeᵀᴹ Right, actually I am planing to build a website to collect all homework problems (also with answers in wiki form) and make use of this search engine.
but it is going to be a site for Chinese, I think when it is used in a high demanded domain, it will get more popularity.
interesting
do you speak Chinese?
12:30
I am Chinese
:P
ok ;)
Should have guessed by the name.
That's true.
@WeiZhong since its easy then why did u hesitate to answer ....pls tell me... I am not been able to find...:-)
@ffahim you can ask a question at the site
@ffahim Haha, do you think it is 2^X-1 > 0
12:37
Pls I am just a secondary level student if u r not interested to help then pls don't make fun of me....@WeiZhong
Not making any fun of you
@ypercubeᵀᴹ okay brother :-)
laugh because you are in the wrong place.
No one is supreme in this world and none is beyond faults.......
Bye
@ffahim secondary level means like high school?
12:44
@ffahim Best way to answer that question is learn some math first. I am actually trying to open Wolfram alpha to illustrate that problem to you in graphic. But Wolfram alpha is down right now I guess.
@ypercubeᵀᴹ yes my brother.... but these types of maths r started from high school in our country
U maybe be familiar with this before :-)
@ffahim In mine as well.
Oh ... then u may treat me as a dull one buddy... no problem :-)
@ffahim I don't understand what that means. No one is treating you badly.
No actually I didn't mean that bro u found me wrong
12:49
As an answer, how have you been told to find the domain of a function?
Only real values
(I assume that what you wrote is a function definition. Because what ypu posted is not a complete definition.)
Actually I am too weak in domain and I just learned that 0 doesn't belong to R+
@ffahim I am sorry, this is not the place to ask a math question, so I will ask you leave this room. If you want to search that question, I suggest you do it on Wolfram alpha: wolframalpha.com/input/?i=2%5EX-1+%3E+0
@WeiZhong feel free to delete my off-topic comments.
Oh, I guess you can't. Only mods.
12:54
NP with that
I don't think that occasional off-topic message is that much of a problem. But the best reaction is to redirect the user to the room which is more appropriate.
It seem that @ffahim already found out that the main chatroom is a better place for such questions:
in Mathematics, 4 mins ago, by ffahim
hey...... does 0 belong to R+ ?
And @ypercubeᵀᴹ if you feel like helping ffahim, you can either react to his questions in main chatroom or you can create a new room for you two. (It should not be too difficult.)
Perhaps also Calculus and analysis room might be suitable for questions like that. But it has much lower traffic than the main chatgroom.
@MartinSleziak I've no interest in that, thank you. He seems to be quite touchy.
13:21
@ypercubeᵀᴹ i am really very sorry .... actually i didn't get enugh time to talk properly with u.... i know that no one treated me badly.... i tried to tell u that i am weak in higher math and physics ... and that's why u may treat me a weak one if u wish to... :-)
i just reacted to wei zhongs comment ... cause he seemed to make fun of me... i apologize to him also
@WeiZhong THANKS for the link
13:38
@ffahim No worries. But please don't use "i" and "u" and "bro". The words are "I" and "you".
And not everyone is a brother. There are boys and girls in this world.
hmm i am obsessed with facebook and thats why it has became like habit ..hahaha
Got to go now. Lots of work to do.
okay :-)
bye

Wei Zhong, I see that you have tried on of the perks of being a room owner - you can kick (ban) user from the chat room for some amount of time.
Another one is that you can view deleted messages: chat.stackexchange.com/messages/32914852/history
I am not sure whether I should call them perks. Features like this have probably been introduced in order to help the room owner to manage the room better.

1 hour later…
15:10
I have created the queries to find comments containing some given word here and here.
There are at least two other users who have used Approach0 to search for duplicates and mentioned it explicitly in a comment. (And it is possible that at least some users searched using your search engine, but did not mention it in a comment.)
This possible duplicate was found here. — Watson Sep 24 at 9:06
